RESURRECTION – HERE AND NOW!
In one of his lighter moments, Benjamin Franklin penned his own epitaph. Franklin didn't profess to be a believing Christian; his writings and works confessed the faith of a deist, a believer in a clock-maker type God, who made the universe and has left it alone for each of us to make our way with what is given to us. Franklin’s beliefs are similar to many in our world today. Although Franklin wasn’t a church member or attender, his epitaph seems to indicate that he had been influ-enced by the Christian message of the resurrection. Here's the epitaph he wrote for himself:
"The body of B. Franklin, printer, like the cover of an old book, its contents torn out, and stripped of its lettering and gilding, lies here, food for worms, but the work shall not be wholly lost: For it will, as he believ'd, appear once more in a new & more perfect edition, corrected and amended by the author."
While this is a thoughtful epitaph, it reveals that Franklin did believe in a clock-maker type god who has left us alone in this life. Franklin’s faith was in a god who makes new, makes perfect, corrects and amends a person’s life only after death. Such is the faith of many people, but such faith rejects everything about Jesus Christ – the Son of God. HOW, YOU ASK?
The virgin birth, the life, the suffering and death, the burial, and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of the “Author” are all the works of the “Author” in the here and the now, not in the here-after. Jesus Christ came expressly for the purpose of making each person NEW. As the Author has written:
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ.” Second Corin-thians 5:17-18
In Holy Baptism the “Author” unites us with His Son – forgiving us our sin, our misprints, our torn pages, and the filthy illustrations found on the pages of our lives. In these waters, the “Author” gives faith with which we receive His grace that forgives us and consequently gives us a NEW LIFE. A life that is to be lived and enjoyed here and now and more in the hereafter.
With this NEW LIFE, the “Author” gave us His Holy Spirit who, through the “Author’s” Words, daily works our faith for the correcting and amending of our lives in the here and now according to the perfection we have received now and are daily receiving. To keep and work this newness, perfec-tion, and strengthening in us for the amending and correcting of our lives, the “Author” comes to us in the here and now through His Word. He also gives us the perfection and resurrected new-ness of His Son, through His Body and Blood in the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.
As things in the here and now can be most confusing and often unclear, we live this new life in the here and now according to the “Author’s” written instruction: “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith.” Hebrews 12:2
The resurrection of Jesus Christ assures us that we don’t have to wait for the hereafter to enjoy the blessings of new life. Jesus’ bodily resurrection makes it beautifully plain that new life and God’s holy perfection are for us right here and right now – where the “Author’s” Words are pro-claimed in all their faithfulness and truth. The Lord bless you in your baptismal resurrection here in time and for all eternity.
In Christ’s Service and yours,
Pastor Love

Pastor Love — April Bible Studies
Lutheran Table Talk To Begin!
Join Pastor Love as he leads a study through the Book of Concord starting Sunday, April 24th from 5:00—7:00 p.m. at the Black Cloister Brewing Company at 619 Mon-
roe St., Toledo (Corner of Erie & Monroe). Bring your Book of Concord and your
Bible. Copies of what we will be reading will be available if you don’t have a copy. You will be able to order dinner from an area restaurant and eat while you are
studying. We will be meeting once a month, usually the last Sunday of the month. Dates going forward are: May 22, June 26, July 24 and August 28th.
New Midweek Study—Freedom of a Christian
Pastor Love is also beginning a class on Thursday, April 7th from 7-8:30 p.m. that
will study Martin Luther’s TREATISE ON CHRISTIAN LIBERTY that examines the FREEDOM OF THE CHRISTIAN. We will be meeting in the Luther Room. Please
bring your Bible and join us. The Bible study will continue until Memorial Day.
We have just celebrated the greatest miracle ever to occur. The Son of God condescended to come to earth, to be humiliated for the sake of those He loves, and then to rise victoriously, the “first fruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 15:20). We celebrate this miracle every Easter.
This is not a daylong miracle, however. The reality of Easter changes us forever. We no longer spend our days in hopelessness and defeat. We no longer go through our daily routines wondering, “is this all there is?” No, we are new creations through this miracle. We are now “more than conquerors through Him Who loved us.” (Romans 8:37)
This miracle is one to be shouted from the housetops, for it is meant not just for you and me, but for all humankind. That’s what the “Therefore” in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:20) means. Christ has died for our sins and risen again so that we might live forever with Him. He has authority to issue this command. ‘THEREFORE GO!’ Don’t keep this miracle a secret. Take time to tell it to your neighbors and friends. Use your talents to build up your church so that its mission and ministry might be enhanced. Spend your resources so that others are enabled to be [His] witnesses….to the ends of the earth. (Acts 18)

What: Growing Through Change
The Beauty of Mentoring
Blessed by God, we can be a Blessing to Others!
Change. It’s the one changeless element of human life. Year-to-year,
month-to-month, hour-to-hour – change is our constant companion. But so
is the changeless Christ! In Him we receive power to use change in positive
ways and to use our experiences with change as we encourage other women
who face changes and challenges we’ve already encountered. God’s Word
will lead us to repentance, to peace, to joy, to deeper transformation into
the image of Christ. (Romans 8:29)

Dignity for Girls – Women’s Hygiene Kits Volunteer Seamstresses and Donations Needed for Kenyan Girls
In this country it seems we are constantly bombarded with advertising for personal hygiene products, but in many other countries those products may be non-existent, especially feminine hygiene products. Days for Girls is trying to change that in Kenya by producing washable feminine products. We have the opportunity to partner with several other congregations in the US to meet this need! Our second shipment of women’s hygiene kits will be sent at the end of
April. However we will continue to make these kits! We will have free and secure shipping through Orphan Grain and will be working directly with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Kenya for distribution there. Following are ways you can contribute to this mission need. Products needed: Travel size bars of soap
Wash cloths – sturdy enough to last three years, but not too thick for efficient shipping and carrying
Actions needed: “Serging” – a special sewing technique for parts of the kits
Sewing – Right now we only need more cloth bags for the kits - simple patterns are available (In the long run, we need other items sewn, but just totes are needed now…) Kit assembly – Tuesday, April 26 at 7pm & Wednesday, April 27 at 1pm For more information, check out the website: www.DaysForGirls.org or contact Deaconess Mary Anne Hibbard. LUTHERAN WOMEN’S MISSIONARY LEAGUE
MITES and MISSIONS
WITH THANKFUL HEARTS…Women of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) Ohio District
acknowledge your prayers and MITE offerings for their Mission Grant Goal. Mites received in March totaling $219.28
have been sent in to combine with Mite gifts from other churches in the Ohio District to fund the 2014-2016 Mission Grant
Goal. We pray that God has blessed our giving and the grant goal was met by the end of March.
A new Mission Grant Goal will be voted on at the Twenty-sixth Biennial LWML Ohio District Convention to be held
June 24 to 26, 2016 at the Cincinnati Marriott North, 6189 Mulhauser Rd., West Chester, Ohio. The convention theme “It
Only Takes a Spark” is based on Luke 24:32. The women of the Cincinnati area are looking forward to hosting this
convention, as we joyfully worship our Lord, study His Word, conduct business with an emphasis on Mission Grants and
enjoy Christian fun and fellowship. The Proclaimer at Friday evenings’ opening worship service, with communion, will be
former national LWML Pastoral Counselor, the Rev. Kris Whitby. The Rev. Keith Witte, St. Paul Lutheran Church, Liberty
Center, Ohio, will lead us in Bible study and Tim Hetzner, President of Lutheran Church Charities, the K-9 Comfort Dog
ministry, will be the keynote speaker. There will be Interest Sessions and Servant Events. Saturday evening’s banquet will
have special entertainment. Registration and Housing information and forms are in the spring issue of the Ohio District
Edition (ODE) and at the district’s website http://lwmlohio.org. Deadline for general registration is May 15, 2016. No
registration is needed to attend the opening worship service on Friday evening. A one day registration is also available.
The spring issues of the LUTHERAN WOMEN’S QUARTERLY and ODE are available in the narthex and near the gym
door. This Quarterly’s theme is “Milestones in Life” and features an article on Ashley Renee of the opera duo ACTE II!
Included in this issue, Grants at Work, is the story of one of national’s mission grants, Phil’s Friends; a total listing of
national LWML Mission Grants, along with the amount of each grant; Bible studies for your spiritual growth and many
other interesting features. Be sure to pick up a copy of the Quarterly and the Ohio District Edition, the ODE which has
registration and housing forms and information on the 2016 LWML Ohio District Convention this June in West Chester,
Ohio and news from the LWML Ohio District.
LWML MITE SUNDAY IS APRIL 17th. Continue to fill your Mite Box with coins, dollars or quiet money. Empty
your Mites into an envelope regularly. Bring your Mites to church on April 17th and place them into the large Mite Box in
the narthex or near the gym door. Remember this national Mission Grant in your prayers:
REDEEMING LIFE MATERNITY HOME, Sanford, Florida
Over 25 years ago Rev. Edward DeWitt and his wife, Sheryl, dreamed of opening a maternity home for women who
choose life for their unborn babies but who lacked the resources to live independent, healthy lives. Redeemed Life
Maternity Home (RLMH) was started by Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Sanford, Florida, in 2013. Since then this crisis
pregnancy ministry has served as a home to 15 women and referred some 60 more to other service agencies.
At RLMH, residents live together as family, learning to support and accept one another. Here faith, family, and
education are upheld as keys to living a healthy, hope-filled life. A resident may choose to parent or to place her child for
adoption. A goal of these women is to finish her education and/or obtain the job skills necessary for success. Active
involvement of the congregation, daily prayer, devotions, worship and Bible study foster spiritual growth.
This grant from the LWML will support the home’s programs for educational and vocational learning, instruction in
financial management, parenting skills and life skills. Individual, group and specialized counseling is also available. This
organization is upholding the value of human life and sharing the message of Christ’s salvation. Mothers having been
instructed in the faith are bringing their babies to the waters of Holy Baptism.

THE LWML TOLEDO ZONE SPRING RALLY will be held at Concordia Lutheran Church, 1431 E. Sixth Street,
Findlay, Ohio on Saturday, April 30, 2016, beginning at 9:30 a.m. The rally theme is “LOVE ONE ANOTHER”, based on
1 John 4:19. Our program speakers are Mary Domke and the Rev. Matthew Shive. Mary will give us an update on
International Friends in Christ. Concordia’s ministry to the Japanese living in and near Findlay, teaches English as a Second
Language and life skills, etc. English/Japanese Bibles purchased with funds from an LWML Ohio District grant are being
used in this ministry. Pastor Shive, Concordia’s pastor, also serves as Chaplain to the local Sheriff’s Department. He will
share how he serves the police department and others he comes in contact with.
We will have an ingathering of Mites for Missions and collect women’s personal items for Lutheran Social Services of
Findlay. These may include, soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc. A light lunch will be served at noon. All
women of Trinity are welcome to attend. We hope that you will save the date and join us.

1. with thanksgiving for the gift of faithwe received at Baptism. Ask the Lord to continue to strengthen that faith — and the budding faith of our children — until we depart this life and are united with the Lord in heaven.
2. with thanksgiving for the Bible, the Book of Concord and the many teach-ing tools that God gives us, that we might learn about Him and our life in Christ. Pray that God would instill in each of His followers a sincere desire and passion for seeking Him.
3. for Christian families, that theLord would send them the assistance and tools necessary to overcome ev-ery challenge — big or small — that might drive them apart.
4. for strong Christian marriages, that husbands and wives would cling to each other despite life’s challenges and raise their children to walk in the way of the Lord.
5. for Christian parents, that theywould make teaching the faith to their children a priority. Please pray that they would set aside time to worship together, talk about faith issues, study the Bible and have family devotions.
6. that family members would treat each other with kindness and patience, so that each member might be built up in the family of God.
7. for our children and young people, who face daily assaults on their Christian beliefs. Ask that God would strengthen and encourage them to stand firm while engaging others with the Gospel.
8. for our churches, that they wouldprovide useful education and pro-grams to help equip people at every stage of life — teens, husbands and wives, parents, caretakers of aging parents and more.
9. that God would continue toprovide faithful church workers to serve as role models and teach people about their identity as a baptized child of God.
10. that church members would eagerly volunteer their time and talents to support the congregation’s educational programs, such as vaca-tion Bible school, holiday events and groups for young families.
11. that LCMS members would eagerly participate in Bible studies, small-group discussions and private study so that they may grow in their faith every day.
12. with thanksgiving for faithful parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, teachers and other role models who help to “train up a child in the way he should go” (Ps. 22:6).
13. for the Concordia University System and the Synod’s two seminaries, that the Lord would bless their work in training new generations of work-ers to serve the Church.
14. for the Synod’s directors of Family Life Ministry, that God would bless their efforts to support healthy relationships in the families of our congregations.
15. that we might have hearts that are willing and eager to serve the Lord in every way.

Remember how God works to grow the faith of His people as you pray:
TEACHING THE FAITH — APRIL 1–15 The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) believes education should address the whole person — body, mind and spirit — beginning in early childhood and continuing through adulthood. This month, the LCMS celebrates the many ways that God’s children are instructed, encouraged and strengthened in the faith. By teaching the faith, we nurture the faithful and reach the lost.

MINISTRY TO THE ARMED FORCES — APRIL 16–30 Since the Civil War, LCMS pastors have served as military chaplains. Today, the Synod’s Ministry to the Armed Forces (MAF) supports more than 160 active, Reserve, National Guard and Civil Air Patrol chaplains. MAF recruits, interviews and endorses all military chaplains and continues to support them throughout their entire careers. MAF also provides a network of care for our nation’s military members, families and veterans through Operation Barnabas.
