From the President: Elaine Homan

Dear Members,

I would like to apologize for the recent email hack that sent out several messages to many members, and to those who were asked for money for my “sick cousin.” This occurred between April 4-5. And nearly all of these contacts were sent to SON contacts. If you received an email from “Elaine Homan” please check your Contact List to make certain that my email was not changed. It should be rehoman @ prodigy.net—no numbers, no other name like ElaineHoman@..., and no other carrier like comcast.net or gmail.com. The hacker made changes to direct my incoming mail elsewhere, like rehoman711@comcast. I have uncovered at least 20 different email changes that this hacker was using to redirect my mail. I was out-of-town in Ft. Collins that day to attend a funeral for a step-cousin of my husband. Imagine my surprise when I came home to a barrage of voice messages, texts, and Trollheim editor emails asking if I really had a cousin who was in the hospital and needed money for surgery. It was a bit eerie! No, I do not have a cousin who needs money for surgery.

On one hand, it disgusts me that a small group of people use the computer for nefarious deeds such as phishing, hacking and scamming email accounts, as well as identity theft when they hack into business databases.

On the other hand, I was overwhelmed by the caring nature of the SON members who called, texted, or contacted me in other ways to offer me their support, including money if I needed it. I thank each and everyone one of you for this support. It made the long hours of cleaning up this mess much more worthwhile. I am sorry that this incident occurred; that you may have been affected by it; and hope that you did not respond to any requests for money without checking this out with me first. I wish I had the time to thank each one of you for your understanding. Please watch out for those phishing emails from anyone in the future!

SON Trollheim Lodge 6-110 General Meeting;

****** Notice****** (1 of 2)

At the April 2nd Trollheim Board Meeting, board members had a discussion on the lack of participation at the general meetings during the “winter months” of November, December, January and February. These months represent those that fall during Mountain Standard Time (MST), when the nights get longer and darkness comes earlier in the day. No one wants to drive in cold or icy conditions during rush hour in the dark to get to a Trollheim General meeting by 7 pm. Last winter, our Mondays were mostly good weather, but still the drive was difficult for many of us, and we did need to postpone one General meeting due to bad roads. At the April Board Meeting a motion was made to let the general

membership vote on the following:

During the four (4) months of Standard

Mountain Time, or namely, the months of

November, December, January, and

February, SON Trollheim Lodge 6-110 will

forgo it’s normal 3rd Monday of the month

Meeting date. For those months, ONLY, the

monthly meeting will be held on the 3rd

Saturday of each month at 2 pm. No potluck

is required but snacks or desserts would be

welcomed. Coffee will be served, as always.

Dates of the changes will be: Nov 17, 2018;

Dec. 15, 2018; Jan. 20, 2019 (a Sunday due

to the Lutefisk Dinner on the 19th); and Feb.

16, 2019. All meetings will begin at 2 pm

unless prior notice is given.

Members will be given 2 notices in the newsletter,

(May and June/July); and 2 verbal notices at the

May and June meetings. At the August General

Meeting on Aug. 20th, discussion will be allowed and

a vote to accept or reject this temporary change will

be held with all members who are in attendance.

This is for the dates listed above only. The present

Board of Directors will be retired at the end of 2018.

It is up to the new board to decide to change back to

the normal meeting times for 2019 if warranted.

Twenty-one members were Recipients of the 2018 Anniversary Pins at April’s Dinner!

Pt. I: Trollheim Lodge’s 44th Anniversary Dinner and General Meeting for April

OK, our anniversary celebration was a couple months late this year, but who had the time to put together a celebration in February??? This year, April was mild, and the days were getting longer, (thanks to Daylight Savings Time), so we combined the anniversary dinner with our April General Meeting. It turned out great! We had 60 members and guests at our meeting; such fun we had getting to know those that haven’t returned for a visit recently! We are glad to count you all as

members, and hope to have the opportunity to visit again, soon!

Part II: Our Memorial Ceremony We are having our Memorial Ceremony at our next General Meeting, May 21, 2018

to honor members who passed away in 2017.

This ceremony will be held after our usual potluck dinner (see page 2.) We also have a presentation that evening by Cathy Allen from Vesterheim Lodge in Boulder. (See more on page 8.) The names

of those who passed away in 2017 are listed below. If you would like to be a Flower Bearer* or say a few words on behalf of a person, please call the President, Elaine Homan, at 303-882-8094, or

303-420-8888 to make arrangements. Thank you.

1. Peder J Norby, Nov. 27, 2016 2. Jerold (Jerry) Peterson, March 25, 2017 3. Andree Ione Melhus Vetter, March 28, 2017 4. Norman Edward Taylor, April 11, 2017 5. Delma Taylor, Sept 4, 2017 6. Charles Knutson, Sept 14, 2017 7. Eunice Elaine Johanson, Aug. 18, 2017 8. Dorothy Williamson, Nov 12, 2017

* The Flower Bearer picks up a flower for a person who has passed and proceeds down the aisle to the vase where all the flowers are placed. A Speaker can say a few words or a short story about one of the passing members. The Speaker can also be the Flower Bearer for the individual.

The editor received this notice in early April.

Clarence "Sparky" Rogstad January 18, 1937- January 15, 2018 Clarence "Sparky" Rogstad died Monday, January 15, 2018 in Weslaco, Texas.

Clarence was born January 18, 1937 in Quincy, Illinois to Edward and Hildegard Rogstad. Sparky graduated from Loyal High School, where he excelled in baseball, basketball, football, student body activities, and played an intricate role in renaming his high school to the, "Loyal Greyhounds". Sparky married Patricia M. Watson on September 14, 1957 at Sacred Heart Church in Marshfield, Wisconsin; they were married for 60 years. They lived in Oshkosh, Wisconsin where he worked for 25 years at Hutter Construction until 1981 when they moved to Lakewood, Colorado. He then worked in construction until he retired from Summit Construction in 2006.

Sparky was a member of the Elks Club, Eagles Club, and Knights of Columbus.

Sparky was an avid hunter, loved the Green Bay Packers, enjoyed dancing, traveling with his wife, Pat, across the country, and many other passions. The greatest memory of traveling with Pat, was their 3-month trip to Alaska to enjoy fishing and sight-seeing. His greatest passion was dancing with his wife doing the polka.

A Funeral Mass will be held for Clarence on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jude's Catholic Church at 9405 West Florida Avenue, Lakewood, CO 80232.

The Lebensborn Project Cathy Allen, presenter

At our May 21st General Meeting we will have an intriguing presentation of the Nazi Lebensborn Project, which was devised by Himmler to promote the Aryan Race. The Norwegians, having the greatest concentration of Aryan features of all the Western Nations, had been particularly sought out. The result of this project on Lebensborn children and their mothers after WWII has been called “Norway’s Hidden Shame”. This will be a very informative program about a part of WWII which many are unfamiliar with. Researched and given by Cathy Allen from Vesterheim lodge

June 18, 2018 is our Ice Cream Social during our June General meeting.

Bring your toppings and enjoy your sundae, or have a float!

Ice Cream is on us! No Potluck!

The Rest of 2018! We are near the halfway mark for this year. It has been a busy one already but there is more to be done between now and Dec. you can read all about what is going on in May and June in this newsletter. July-Trollheim Lodge takes a break from its usually meetings. However, it is a quiet time to do small details at the lodge such as clean and sort the library; clean and organize the kitchen storeroom; get rid of small things around the lodge. Please consider saying yes for a task or two during the summer, if we should call you! Aug-Trollheim resumes its usual meetings; 1st Monday is the Board Meeting, and 3rd Monday is the General Meeting. Important meeting as we will be voting on whether to change meeting dates and times for the winter months. Nothing else is scheduled for this month. Sept-Regular schedule of meetings, and on the 15th of the month, we will host our Walleye Dinner. Fall classes usually resume at this time. It’s also time to think about new officers and the election to be held in November.

Oct-Regular schedule of meetings Nov-TROLLHEIM’S CHRISTMAS FAIR! Scheduled for Nov 2 and 3. Volunteers always are welcomed. General Meeting may be changed this month if the vote in August is favorable. Dec-Trollheim’s Family Jul Party and board and General Meetings this month. Jan 2019-Lutefisk Dinner

Things to Do This Summer for Trollheim: 1. Donate a few hours to help organize the lodge rooms and closets. 2. Sort books/supplies in the library and index newly arrived books 3. Let your fingers do the walking by starting a telephone list of qualified electricians, plumbers, painters, and other repairmen for special projects around the lodge. 4. Take home some envelopes to cut out stamps. These stamps are used for TUBFRIM, a Norwegian Non-Profit Organization who resells the stamps and uses the revenue to fund TB research. Did you know that new strains of this dreaded disease are on the rise worldwide???? Help out this cause! Lots of other jobs, but more on that later! Call the President at 303-420-8888 for more info. Takk!
