President’s Message

Welcome back! I hope many of you have had a wonderful summer. For our next general meeting on Aug we can chat about our activities over the summer while having our annual BBQ. (See meeting notes, below.) Let’s make this a social time and reconnect with new and old friends!

We had some success this summer with an open rosemaling Saturdays each week in the morning. For several Saturday afternoons, Laria Lovec instructed a group in Hardanger embroidery. On July 4th, Tidløs, the band from Norway entertained us! Over 90 people attended, including a few friends of the band members who were also in Denver at the time. The group had arrived on July 3, and spent some time at the lodge, then went to Red Rocks for a brief tour. Afterwards, they spent the evening at the Civic Center in Denver to attend the Independence Day concert on July 3rd. They spent the late afternoon with us. The next day after the concert they were on the road to South Dakota. It was a quick trip but we were so happy to have them here again!

Hope to see many of you at our next meeting on August 19th! And don’t forget our Trollheim Walleye Fish Fry is coming up on Sept 14th. This is always a crowd-pleaser.

General Meeting August 19th, 2019; 7 pm

August is our month for an outside BBQ. Trollheim will supply hamburger patties, hot dogs, buns, and potato salad. You can bring fixings (tomato, lettuce, pickles etc.), other salads or sides, and desserts. We will have a social night of it. On hand will be some pictures of the Tidløs concert and all the people, and some music from their album Ren og Rettferdig (2017).

We do have one business item to discuss…do we want to change our general meeting times and dates during the winter months? See page 3 for details. We need to vote on this this month!

Sunshine News Beverly King, Sunshine Lady

It was a good summer for roses and rhubarb!! Although for some of us there were accidents, illness, and sadness to cope with.

I received a call from Norman Waugh that he had suffered a mild stroke.

Arne and Vi Helsing had a car accident, broadsided at an intersection. They are healing.

Carol Neverdahl is on life support at the time of this newsletter. John could use your support with a card of encouragement, and your prayers. They will celebrate their forty-second Anniversary this month. 12379 East Iowa Drive, --Aurora, CO-80012

Sandra Hagavik, is back home after suffering a skiing accident earlier in January, she is gaining her strength after many hospital stays, and

the loving care from husband Jim.

Temporary Switch for General

Meetings for Winter Months (from June/July newsletter)

This was such a success last year, with lots of positive feedback from those who preferred to attend the Saturday afternoon meetings rather than the dark and cold Monday nights during the winter months. The Trollheim Board decided to do it again, for the winter of 2019-2020. This involves just the 4 months that are NOT in daylight savings time (Nov., Dec., Jan., and Feb.). Those months are too cold and too dark with the suspension of Daylight Savings Time. Traffic is still a mess out there but with the earlier sunset, the cold weather comes earlier and makes these months very hazardous to be on the road for many of our members.

We must give the membership notice 2 times in the newsletter and 2 times at general meetings. This is the first notice in the newsletter (June/July). The second notice in print will be in the August Newsletter. It has already been announced verbally at the May General Meeting, and will be announced again at the June meeting (our Ice Cream Social.) When the August 2019 General Meeting arrives, we all will have been informed at meetings 2 times and by the newsletter 2 times. We will have discussion, if needed, at the August meeting or we can have the vote to approve this temporary move of our General Meetings if no further discussion is needed. Otherwise, the vote will be held at the Sept. meeting.

Whether you support or object to this temporary change in our General Meetings day and time, we would enjoy hearing from you. Call any officer if you would like to speak about this or any other matter. Their contacts are listed on the inside of the back page. Thank you!

1st Notice; June 6, 2019 2nd Notice; Aug 1, 2019

During the four (4) months of Standard Mountain Time, or namely, the months of November, December, January, and February 2019 and 2020, SON Trollheim Lodge 6-110 will forgo it’s normal 3rd Monday of the month Meeting date. For those months, ONLY, the monthly meeting will be held on the 3rd Saturday of each month at 2 pm. No potluck is required but snacks or desserts would be welcomed. Coffee will be served, as always. Dates of the changes will be:

Nov 16, 2019; Dec. 21, 2019;

Jan 18, 2020; and Feb. 15, 2020.

All meetings will begin at 2 pm unless prior notice is given.

Members will be given 2 notices in the newsletter, (May and June/July); and 2 verbal notices at the May and June meetings. At the August General Meeting on Aug. 20th, discussion will be allowed and a vote to accept or reject this temporary change will be held with all members who are in attendance. Voting on this temporary change will occur at the meeting on August 5, 2019 A 3nd written notice will be in the August 2019 newsletter. (this newsletter.) 1st notice verbally was presented at the May 2019 General Meeting. 2nd notice was verbally presented at the June 2019 General Meeting. At the August meeting this month, we will have a 3rd verbal notice.

Classes will start again soon. Please call the instructors:

(reprinted from May Trollheim News)

Idea from our Vice-President, Pat LaMoe P.S. We would welcome guests from other lodges, too!

LET'S VISIT SWEDEN!! No Passport Required!

No Security Lines at DIA! No long Flights!

HYLLNINGSFEST in LINDSBORG, KANSAS; OCTOBER 18 – 19, 2019

It is rightfully called “Little Sweden” and was settled by Swedish immigrants 150 years ago on the prairie of Eastern Kansas. This is a SPECIAL Celebration this year – 150 years! They have been planning this weekend for more than 2 years. The little town of Lindsborg – 3000 inhabitants, including Bethany College, swells to over 30,000 for Hyllningsfest weekend. Half the town will be in Swedish costume, from 2-year-olds to 102-year-olds!! My Danish granddaughter remarked Lindsborg is more Swedish than Sweden!!

Details: We will stay together at a motel in Salina, KS, about 20 miles/20 minutes from Lindsborg (they have free breakfast, indoor swim pool). We will attend the “home town” parade on Saturday morning—school bands, vintage cars & tractors, floats, etc.; and buy lunch from street vendors. Shop at the market of Scandinavian crafts – and be sure to buy Home Made Swedish Tea Rings, cardamom rolls, etc.!

The smorgasbord is beautifully presented with more than enough food to fill your plate. Assorted “sweets” are on a separate table.

Salina, KS is about a 7-hour drive from Denver. Do you want to car pool? Would you like to “leave the driving to us”?? If so, we will rent a van or small bus. Diane Molter has volunteered to drive the rented van, if that is what we decide to do.

Some of you have experienced this wonderful weekend previously. Some of you have not. ALL ARE WELCOME. Come for this quick get-away and immerse yourself in a different culture – again, no passports required, no security line at DIA! October18-19, 2019.

As this is their Big Anniversary year, reservations for Smorgasbord and motels will fill up FAST. I will need to make those reservations in early June. That is an early commitment, but TREAT YOURSELF to a unique experience. This will be the 17th time I have attended - held every other year, so I have been going for 34 years!!!

Tidløs in 2019 at Trollheim

Tidløs Members: Bjørn-Thore Aastveit, Martin Wikstøl. Tommy Røinås Ingebritsen,

Jørgen Førde, and Jan Morgan Smith

Ninety-plus people enjoyed the

performance of Tidløs on July 4th. (That’s

an increase from 67 people in 2017!) This

year, Martin Wikstøl translated more of

the music to English, and his “blues-

inspired” version of “How Great Thou

Art” was a show-stopper! Vern Skari led

the audience in singing along with the

band to this tune. Also, in English, the

band played a new song, “Norwegian

Coffee”, another hit. We need to get a

copy of that one for the lodge!

Do you remember when Bjørn-Thore explained that he

couldn’t bring his own accordion, and looked for one at a

pawn shop on Colfax? He said, “it isn’t very good.” He had

to mend the straps with strings but we still enjoyed it. He is

so talented with the many instruments he plays!

After the concert, we enjoyed visiting with the guests and

buying the rest of the 2017 CDs over cookies, meatballs and

coffee or punch. The last few CDs remaining were given to

the lodge to raise money for the Scholarship fund. You can

buy one from Bev Moe or Joan Johnson for ten dollars.

I hope we have another opportunity in the future to have

Tidløs return so everyone gets a chance to visit with these talented people and hear their music live!

Thank you, Holly Anderson for the photography!--your President, Elaine Homan
