Japan (before)

• Population: 127,076,183.• 10th most populated in the world.• 3rd largest economy in the world.

Population

• Very over populated• Only 10th largest, but it is very crowded.• Many people don’t eat do to lack of food.

Japan’s Economy

• Having the 3rd largest of all countries Japan was a very successful country business wise.

• Unlike us, they actually brought more money in then more money going out.

• With all their technology and everyone being so educationally advanced, they were on the road to being very successful.

How an Earthquake happens

• An earthquake comes about when one or more tectonic plates shift or slide, either going beneath or above or colliding.

• This action produces massive amounts of energy shaking the ground above.

Earthquake

• On March 11th 2011, A massive earthquake registering a 8.9 on the Richter Scale.

• Roads were absolutely destroyed.• Cars, houses, skyscrapers, all collapsed

and crushed to bits.

• It is almost impossible to predict when a earthquake is going to happen.

• That is what makes earthquakes so deadly.

• No one is pre evacuated.• It catches everyone off guard, and kills

hundreds.

How after shocks happen

• After shocks are actually small earthquakes.

• After shocks are caused mainly by how the tectonic plates are still moving.

After Shocks

• The earthquake that hit Japan was a 9.0 in magnitude.

• The aftershocks were recorded on a 6.6• There were over 800 different aftershocks

following the earthquake.

• Most aftershocks do not even get recorded.

• This is because they are so weak that they are not felt at all and so they go unnoticed.

• Just as much damage can produced from aftershocks as earthquakes.

How a tsunami happens

• Tsunami : a cataclysm resulting from a destructive sea wave caused by an earthquake or volcanic eruption;

• A Tsunami is one of the strongest things on this planet.

• The energy that just one tsunami can put out is catastrophic.

Tsunami

• Japan’s tsunami quickly followed the damaging earthquake.

• The waves did not have to be big to be damaging.

• Whole towns and cities, were virtually under water.

• Whole trees, and cars were just pushed away by the water.

• Entire houses and buildings had been swept off the foundation and started to float away.

• Hundereds of more people went missing and presummablly are dead.

Tsunami (3)

• Perhaps the most damaging thing caused by the tsunami is the damaging to the nuclear reactors in Fukushima.

• The power plant was under 24/7 servaillence to see if anything was going to happen.

Economy After

• Japan’s economy is now going to have to completely start over.

• They were one of the biggest in the world, and now they are going to be in serious debt.

• Nothing compared to the United State’s debt, but Japan is still in debt from their last earthquake and tsunami back in 1993.

• The cost of having to clear out all of the debris is going to cost hundreds of thousands if not millions.

• Then having to go and rebuild all of the buildings, and buisnesses, is going to cost millions.

Nuclear Reactors

• The earthquake caused a lot of damage to the nuclear power plant in Fukushima, Japan.

• The power plant suffered lots of damage from the earthquakes and aftershocks alone.

• The tsunami ended up destroying the plant for good.

• The salt water from the ocean ruined all the technology in the plant.

• This is very important because without the plants cooling system, the reactors melted.

• This caused a serious leakage of radiation.

Radiation Worldwide

• This event affected the whole world slowly but surely.

• Radiation was discovered in rain across the United States and in other countries.

Death Toll•The death toll from the tsunami and earthquake is believed to be in the 10,000+•The total number of people lost or missing is even higher.•Everyday, thousands and thousands of people go without food, water, and shelter.

Helping out

•Other countries are helping out to clean up Japan.•Almost every country is helping out Japan, even small countries like Mongolia.•The United States and Great Britain are giving the most help.•India has shipped tons of wool blankets.

Helping out (2)

• Turkey has sent 50 thousand troops.

• 190 airplanes and 25 ships to help out Japan in anyway.

• Even with all of this help, its still going to be a decade or so until Japan will be up and running like it use to be.
