This small Tyler Pipe celebration soon turned into a visit from the VP of the McWane Plumbing Division, a segment on KLTV, a pod-cast from KLTV Reporter Alex Leroux, a visit from 107.3 Jamz DJ, Shawn Knight and a Facebook post that went viral with OVER 3,000 likes. On Wednesday, May 22nd Tyler Pipe made arrangements to have Spring Creek BBQ cater to all 350 Tyler Pipe Team Members on all three shifts. The evening before the celebration Kurt Winter, VP of the Plumbing Division arrived in Tyler. He brought a letter that was authored by Ruffner Page and Phillip McWane, congratulating Mr. Madison on this historic occasion. A nice frame was purchased so we could mount the letter to keep it pristine and suitable for hanging on the wall. Exactly one week to the day prior to the celebration, we were visited by KLTV Reporter Alex Leroux. She had an opportunity to visit Mr. Madison on site and watch him operate the crane. Shortly afterwards Mr. Madison descended the stairs and sat down along with his Manager Brandon Hall to speak to Ms. Leroux. That short interview turned into a very well worded, very touching story about James Madison and his 60 year journey with Tyler Pipe. On the 22nd, the festivities began around 11:00am with Faye starting the celebration by welcoming Mr. Madison, Team Members and honored guests. Thereafter Kurt read the letter from Phillip and Ruffner and presented it to Mr. Madison. I know that the letter touched Hoss because when I was assisting him by taking his presents out to his car, I reached for the framed letter and Hoss told me, “Rod, I’ll get that.” After the presentation by Kurt, Mr. Madison received special gifts from the radio station, gifts from well wishers as well as a special gift card from Tyler Pipe. Probably more special that his ‘official’ guests, Mr. Madison was surrounded by his wife Edna, daughter Lisa, 3 nephews Greg, Sammy & Keith, daughter-in-law Susan and his best friend Joe Thompson. Later that evening Faye came in and said that his story went viral on Facebook with almost 3,000 likes. I told Mr. Madison that he was famous and he smiled and said, “Yep, I guess so. Tyler Pipe salutes James Madison What started out as a small congratulatory celebration for Mr. James Madison for

hitting his 60th anniversary, quickly snowballed into a Tyler-wide event. This small

Tyler Pipe celebration soon turned into a visit from the VP of the McWane Plumbing

Division, a segment on KLTV, a pod-cast from KLTV Reporter Alex Leroux, a visit

from 107.3 Jamz DJ, Shawn Knight and a Facebook post that went viral with OVER

3,000 likes. On Wednesday, May 22nd Tyler Pipe made arrangements to have Spring

Creek BBQ cater to all 350 Tyler Pipe Team Members on all three shifts. The evening

before the celebration Kurt Winter, VP of the Plumbing Division arrived in Tyler. He

brought a letter that was authored by Ruffner Page and Phillip McWane, congratulating

Mr. Madison on this historic occasion. A nice frame was purchased so we could mount

the letter to keep it pristine and suitable for hanging on the wall.

Exactly one week to the day prior to the celebration, we were

visited by KLTV Reporter Alex Leroux. She had an opportunity to

visit Mr. Madison on site and watch him operate the crane. Shortly

afterwards Mr. Madison descended the stairs and sat down along

with his Manager Brandon Hall to speak to Ms. Leroux. That short

interview turned into a very well worded, very touching story about

James Madison and his 60 year journey with Tyler Pipe.

On the 22nd, the festivities began around 11:00am with Faye

starting the celebration by welcoming Mr. Madison, Team

Members and honored guests. Thereafter Kurt read the letter from

Phillip and Ruffner and presented it to Mr. Madison. I know that

the letter touched Hoss because when I was assisting him by

taking his presents out to his car, I reached for the framed

letter and Hoss told me, “Rod, I’ll get that.” After the

presentation by Kurt, Mr. Madison received special gifts

from the radio station, gifts from well wishers as well as a

special gift card from Tyler Pipe.

Probably more special that his ‘official’ guests, Mr. Madison

was surrounded by his wife Edna, daughter Lisa, 3 nephews

Greg, Sammy & Keith, daughter-in-law Susan and his best

friend Joe Thompson. Later that evening Faye came in and

said that his story went viral on Facebook with almost 3,000

likes. I told Mr. Madison that he was famous and he smiled

and said, “Yep, I guess so. I never thought that I’d be here

While temperatures have not risen to the point of being uncomfortable, it is

always nice to relax with a cool dessert like ICE CREAM. This last Wednesday

was our annual Ice Cream Day and our local vendor brought in box after box of

delicious, refreshing ice cream. All you could eat! We spread the goodness out

to the North Plant Breakroom, the Wade Warehouse & Shipping Break Rooms

as well as the break room in the admin building. Just another way to say Thank

You for all of your hard work and dedication to our facility. It is companies like

Tyler Pipe that are keeping the industrial backbone of America great!

Another Appreciation Event!!!

Tyler Pipe presents Bowling at Green Acres On Saturday, May 18, Tyler Pipe Team Members enjoyed a day of fun and comradery by

spending time with family and friends bowling at Green Acre Lanes in Tyler. Old pros

and novices alike enjoyed a little friendly competition while they brought out their ‘A’

game. Some folks like our buddy James Madison said that he just wanted to go and watch

the grandkids roll the ball down the lane. Once again we had a great turn out with

around 65 Team Members and family in attendance. The entire group was treated to

snacks like cupcakes and cookies as well as soda.

On Saturday, June 15th, Scott McCarty and his Supervisors and spouses gathered at

Salt Grass Steak house and celebrated the graduation and promotion of four Millwright

Apprentice Candidates into full fledged Master Millwrights. Aaron Baeza, Eric Cummings,

Luis Gauna & John Williams were the guests of honor for the evening. These four

candidates are the second group that has graduated and they have set themselves

apart as competent, knowledgeable and hard working Master Millwrights.

Not only did Tyler Pipe treat them to a nice meal but they were awarded trophies to

commemorate their journey as apprentices. When an apprentice begins they are given

such wonderful tasks as breaking up old concrete, menial construction work and they

cut scrap until the world looked level but each and every experience honed their

mechanical skills.

Each of the three years the appren-

tice group were slowly given more

responsibility and independence as

they worked. Their experience provid-

ed a well rounded education on

hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical

powered units. So, if you see Aaron

Baeza, Eric Cummings, Luis Gauna or

John Williams around, give them a pat

on the back for three years of hard

work and dedication to complete the

apprenticeship program.

There is a new attraction along highway 69. Our sign that welcomes visitors to our

facility has undergone a facelift and has joined the electronic age. The notion of the

update began almost a year ago. The Tyler Pipe has a group call the CAP, CAP stands

for Community Advisor Panel. These folks are community members, some in a

political office and others that are neighbors of Tyler Pipe. Greg hosts a meeting each

year and updates the group on current activities at our facility and asks for suggestions

on how we can continue to improve within our community. Last year the CAP suggest-

ed that Tyler Pipe put up a sign along highway 69 letting our community know that we

are still here and very active as a community leader. Greg took the initiative and got the

ball rolling to update our sign and brought it into the electronic age. Now we are able to

communicate with passer-byers that Tyler Pipe is here and very active in our

community. If you have suggestions for topics to add to the sign just stop by and let

one of your friendly HR staff know, we are always glad to help!

BTW: A BIG Thanks to Jeff Hitt for working in the rain to get the power hooked up

so we could welcome visitors to our May “Madison 60th” Celebration!

Electronic Sign Installation

If you remember, Tyler Pipe was proud to donate $10,0000 to

the East Texas Food Bank to help build a new facility. The project was called More Space / More Meals and on Friday, June

7th, Tyler Team Members were given the opportunity to see exactly how the money was invested. As a result of the expan-

sion, now our Tyler Pipe volunteers can officially spend less time avoiding forklift traffic and more time helping the

organization serve those in need throughout the region. ETFB serves over 203 organizations in the East Texas area and in

2018, had over 15,000 volunteers, Tyler Pipe being a part of that number.

On Friday June 7th, Tyler Pipe Team Members put on their jeans and t-shirts and headed

down to the East Texas Food Bank to participate in the United Way Day of Caring. Once a year the United Way of Smith County contacts charitable organizations and ask

whether they could utilize an extra pair of hands or in some cases a hundred pair of hands. The Day of Caring positively impacts our community in two ways; the first is

that it provides these charitable organizations an opportunity to receive extra help and the second benefit is that it allows folks like our Tyler Pipe Team Members to see

how their donation dollars are spent. As you know, Tyler Pipe is a strong supporter of organizations like the East Texas Food Bank (ETFB) so this gives our Team Members

an opportunity to see how our charitable donations are being spent to improve our

community.

9:30am and 3:00pm while supplies last. (Sorry folks, there are no laptops this year!) For just $25 you get a complete PC system with CPU, monitor, keyboard and mouse. These are older units

that have been cleaned up and then restored to their original condition. We will continue to cleanup surplus systems and make them available to Tyler Pipe Team Members to purchase. So,

if you have a need for a computer system, give us a call to see if we have one available. Call Gary Weston at 903-882-2606, Mondays and Tuesdays between the hours of 9am and 3pm to put in

your request.

Heat Stress Causes Body Reactions

As the East Texas Summer begins to heat up, it is especially important to monitor our temperature

and liquid intake. I found this helpful article on the internet and thought that I would share it. Four

environmental factors affect the amount of stress a worker faces in a hot work area: temperature,

humidity, radiant heat (such as from the sun or a furnace) and air velocity. Perhaps most important to

the level of stress an individual faces are personal characteristics such as age, weight, fitness, medical

condition and acclimatization to the heat.

The body reacts to high external temperature by circulating blood to the skin which increases skin

temperature and allows the body to give off its excess heat through the skin. However, if the muscles

are being used for physical labor, less blood is available to flow to the skin and release the heat.

Sweating is another means the body uses to maintain a stable internal body temperature in the face of

heat. However, sweating is effective only if the humidity level is low enough to permit evaporation and

if the fluids and salts lost are adequately replaced.

Of course there are many steps a person might choose to take to reduce the risk of heat stress, such

as moving to a cooler place, reducing the work pace or load, or removing or loosening some clothing.

But the body cannot dispose of excess heat, it will store it. When this happens, the body's core tem-

perature rises and the heart rate increases. As the body continues to store heat, the individual begins

to lose concentration and has difficulty focusing on a task, may become irritable or sick and often loses

the desire to drink. The next stage is most often fainting and death is possible if the person is not re-

moved from the heat stress.
