Academic Excellence•UConn student-athletes perform at

ahighlevel inthefieldsandarenasofathleticplayandintheclassroom.

•Over50percentof student-athletesearned a 3.0 or better grade pointaveragein2012-13andxxhada4.0grade point average either the fall2012and/orspring2013semesters.

•FiveHuskyteamshadaperfectscorein the latest NCAA GraduationSuccess Rate (GSR) report: fieldhockey,lacrosse,rowing,softballandwomen’stennis.

•The football team had an APRmulti-year score of 958 for thefootball team during a time periodin which UConn played in bowlgamesinthreeseasons.Thefootballteam’s score is 11 points higherthantheaveragescoreforallpublicinstitutions.

•Thefieldhockeyteamhada near-perfectmulti-yearscoreof996inaperiod when the Huskies went totheNCAAtournamentallfouryearsandthenationalsemifinalin2011.

•In 2011, the baseball team had asingle-yearscoreof1000inaseasonwhen UConn advanced to theNCAASuperRegionals.

TheUniversityofConnecticutanditsDivisionofAthleticsarelivinginanexcitingera.

Husky teams bring great pride to our state and our university; they are a rallying point foreveryone associated with UConn including our students, our alumni around the world, ourfaculty,staffandofcoursethethousandsoffansthatmakeupHuskyNation.

UConnstudent-athletesperformatthehighestlevelbothacademicallyandathleticallyandweasaninstitutionarecommittedtoensuringthattheycontinuetosucceedinboth.

Elsewhere at the university, construction is underway for our highly exciting research andinnovation effort called Bioscience Connecticut; UConn and the world-renowned JacksonLabsarepartofamajornewresearchpartnership;andplansarequicklymovingforwardforaTechnologyParkonourStorrscampus.

UConnisalsointhemidstofanambitious,multi-yearhiringinitiativetodramaticallyexpandourfacultyacrossnumerousacademicdisciplines.Thisfour-yearinvestmentin500tenure-trackfaculty positions will build on the institution’s existing strengths and grow new expertise instrategicareasbyhiringtalentedscholarsinkeyfields.Itwillsignificantlyboosttheuniversity’sresearchproductivity,provideoutstandingteachingandservicetoUConnstudentsandcontinuethetransformationthathasledtheuniversitytostandamongthenation’sleadingpublicresearchinstitutions.

Finally,GovernorDannellMalloyandtheConnecticutGeneralAssemblyrecentlypassedNextGeneration Connecticut. This $1.5 billion state investment will greatly expand educationalopportunities, research, and innovation in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math(STEM)disciplinesatUConnoverthenextdecade.

Thecornerstoneof thisunprecedentedstate investment isamajor increase in theuniversity’senrollment, theexpansionofour faculty–aboveandbeyondUConn’scurrent facultyhiringinitiative – and new and updated facilities to accommodate enhanced STEM research andteaching, as well as our growing population. With Next Generation Connecticut, targetedstrategic investments in facilities, faculty, and studentswill furtherestablishUConnasavitalSTEMinstitution,fuelingnewtechnologies,highlyskilledgraduates,newcompanies,patents,licenses,andhigh-wageSTEMjobs.

Finally, the demand to attend UConn is astounding: in 2013, UConn received more than30,000applicationsforourfreshmanclass.Toputthatinperspective,in2001,theuniversityreceived less thanhalf that.Nowmore thanever,UConn is able tooffer averyhigh-qualityeducationforaverycompetitivevalue,whichisincrediblyimportanttostudentsandfamilies.

Ourfaculty,ourstudents,ourfacilitiesandouracademicandathleticsuccesseshavecombinedtomakeUConnanoutstandinguniversity–andwithgreatprideanddetermination,wecontinueontoanevenbrighterfuture.

Dear Friends,

TheUniversityofConnecticutwasfoundedin1881andthebeginningsofourintercollegiateathleticsprogramssoonfollowed.ExcellencehasalwaysbeenpartoftheHuskytraditionandmanygreatcoaches,student-athletesandstaffhaveworkedtoestablishastrongfoundationandourrichlegacy.

Today,ourDivisionofAthletics is abroad-basedprogramwith24 sports,over700student-athletesandapproximately200full-timeemployees.Theathleticdepartmentdoesnotreceiveanytaxdollarstosupportathletics,whichcomesasasurprisetomanypeople.Weareresponsiblefor generating revenues to support a currentbudgetof$65millionwith$12millionof thatbeingreturnedtotheUniversityintheformofscholarshipsforourstudent-athletes.TheHuskyfaithfulshouldbeproudofthecontinuedsuccessofourstudent-athletesintheclassroomandonthefieldsofplay.

OurUniversitycontinuestogrowinstatureandprestigeintooneofthecountry’stoppublicresearchuniversitiesthroughtheUCONN2000,21stCenturyUConnandNextGenerationInitiatives. That development will continue through the next 10 years with an incredibleexpansionofourUConncampuses,UConnHealthCenterandthenewTechParkinStorrs.

TheDivisionofAthleticsmirrorstheaspirationsoftheentireUConncommunity.Wehaveagreatchampionshippast,wearechampionstoday,andarecommittedtobeingchampionsinthefuture.

Beginningonthenextpageandthroughoutthispublication,youwillseetherichchampionshiphistoryoftheUConnHuskies.WeareproudofthenationalandconferencechampionshipswehavewonandtheAll-Americanstudent-athleteswehaveproduced.

FansaroundtheworldwillcontinuetowatchUConn--ourbrandremainsoneofthestrongestinthecountry.WhentelevisionsareturnedontoHuskygames,theyneedtoseethreethings:student-athletesandcoachesperformingandwinningat thehighest level, state-of-theartandmodernfacilities,andgreatfansfillingourvenuesofplaywithenthusiasmandpassionfromthebeginningofthecontestuntilthelastwhistleblows.

IpromiseyouthatweareworkingeverydaytoensurethatthosewhosupportUConnwitnessgreatnessintheseareas.Weare“UCONN”becauseofalotofhardworkfromthoseinthepastandmenandwomeninthepresentwhocontinuetomakeussuccessfulattheconferenceandnationallevel.

However,wecouldnothaveachievedanyofthatwithoutthesupportofouralumni,fansanddonors.WeneedyourcontinuedenthusiasmandsupportthatHuskyfanshavebeenfamousforoverthedecades.Weneedyoutobeevenmorepassionatethaneverbefore.Weneedyoutobelieveinourabilitytobegreat,showup,standupandbecountedamongthedie-hardHuskyfans.

We begin a new era in 2013-14 with the American Athletic Conference that consists ofprestigious national universities that have all enjoyed athletic success. We will develop newrivalries and traditions with these schools and the competition will be exciting and highlycompetitiveineverysport.

I strongly believe in UConn Athletics and its future. I believe that we will continue to winconferencechampionshipsandenjoychampionshipsuccessinNCAAcompetition.

Ihaveconfidenceinourstudent-athletes,coachesandstaffintheDivisionofAthletics.Mostofall,IamconfidentthatourgreatHuskyfanswillcontinuetosupportusandrallyforusmorethaneverbefore.

•In 2010-11, UConn men’s basketball was the most viewed BigEastConferenceteaminNewYorkCity.Acombined1.35millionhouseholds watched UConn basketball games in the New YorkDMA that were televised on ESPN or ESPN2. That numberdoubled the amount of households watching Syracuse games onESPN or ESPN2 and was five times more than the amount ofhouseholds that watched Rutgers on ESPN or ESPN2.The toptwo-ratedSyracusemen’sbasketballgamesintheNewYorkDMAin2010-11wereinfactgamesagainstUConn.

Our Campus is ConnecticutIn addition to the main campus in Storrs, the University ofConnecticuthasanumberofothercampusesandschoolsaroundthestate,whichtrulymakeseachregionofthestatepartoftheUConncampus.

The UConn Health Center and John Dempsey Hospital arelocated in Farmington, just west of Hartford. Today, BioscienceConnecticut,an$864millioninitiative,istransformingthecampusoftheUConnHealthCenter.BioscienceConnecticutisaforward-thinking plan to create thousands of construction and related jobsin the short-term and generate long-term, sustainable economicgrowth based on bioscience research, innovation, entrepreneurshipand commercialization. It is a multifaceted plan that also includesinitiativestoimproveaccesstohealthcareservicesintheregionandbeyond.

Renovations have begun in the original research tower and workis underway to build the new outpatient care center and the newhospital tower. In addition, groundbreaking ceremonies were heldin January 2013 for the new $1.1 billion Jackson Laboratoryfor Genomic Medicine, the first return on the state’s BioscienceConnecticutinvestment,whichwillbehousedontheUConnHealthCentercampus.TheJacksoninitiativeisacollaborationbetweenthegloballyprominentJacksonLaboratory,UConn,theHealthCenterandleadingacademicandhealthcareinstitutionsintheregion.

Husky Football: A Long Tradition, A Quick Championship TransitionFootball was first played at UConn in 1896 and has developed asa program as the institution has grown into one of the top publicuniversitiesinthecountry.

TheHuskiesmadeaseamlesstransitionfromNCAAFCSstatustotheNCAABowlChampionshipSubdivisionin2003andbecameamemberoftheBIGEASTConferencein2004.

UConnhasplayedinfivebowlgamesoveritshistoryandhaswontwoBIGEASTChampionships.

When UConn gained its first AP ranking in 2007, it became thesecond-quickestteamtorisefromFCSstatustoanationalranking.

The University of Connecticut women’sbasketballprogramhas set the standard forcollegiate athletic programs. The team haswon eight national championships, playedin 14 Final Fours and 19 Elite Eights.The Huskies have won a combined 37conference championships. Women’s Track and FieldUConn head coach Bill Morgan is in his32nd year with the program and tenth ashead coach. He and his staff have builtthe Huskies into a consistent top 25 teamthat sends numerous performers to NCAAChampionshipseachyear.

The UConn women’s cross country teamqualified for the NCAA Championship in2012 for the first time in history and wasrankedashighas14thduringtheseason.
