Leerders van Jubileepark Primêr kan uits-ien om die laaste kwartaal weer normale
skoolure agter skoolbanke in te skuif nadatdie eerste van tien tydelike klaskamers ver-lede week by die skool afgelaai is.
“Ons is baie verlig en bly dat die tydelikeklaskamers uiteindelik hier aangekom het.Nou kan skoolwerk weer normaal aangaan,”sê Lorna Bosman, skoolhoof van JubileeparkPrimêr op Uitenhage.
Sowat 539 leerders is geaffekteer nadat tweeklaskamers, die skool se biblioteek en ‘n pak-kamer einde Mei vanjaar afgebrand het.
“Ons was verplig om alternatiewe reëlingste tref om toe te sien dat al 1 195 leerders kanvoortgaan met hulle skoolwerk. Leerdersmoes daarom in oggend- en middagskofteingedeel word.”
Volgens Mervyn Kettledas, voorsitter vandie beheerliggaam het die onderwysers uithul pad gegaan om toe te sien dat leerders op
datum bly met hulle kurrikulums.“In dié tyd was daar wel ‘n afname in leer-
ders se skoolbywoning, maar dit was hoof-saaklik weens vervoerkwessies,” het Kettle-das gesê.
Die tydelike Kwikspace klaskamers wordin Durban vervaardig en in kompartementena Uitenhage vervoer. Kontrakteur ManieStrydom van BM Services, die projek-bestuurder verantwoordelik vir die monter-ing van die klaskamers by JubileeparkPrimêr, het gesê elke klaskamer beslaan so-wat 56m². Dit sal sowat twee weke duur omal die klaskamers gereed te kry.
Kettledas sê nog goeie nuus is dat die ten-ders vir kontrakteurs vir die bou van splin-ternuwe permanente klaskamers, ‘n sport-terrein en die totale opgradering van dieskoolgeboue in die finaliseringsfase is.
“Ons vertrou dat bouwerk vroeg aan-staande jaar sal begin. Dit is hoog tyd wantdie ‘Plankieskool’ is al vir die afgelope 61 jaar‘tydelik’ en ons wag nou al baie jare virhierdie opgradering.”

In twoweek’s time a popularmarathon or-ganised by Muirite Striders will be held inUitenhageandDespatchandoneof the 15wa-terpoints, next to the R334 towards Mother-well, is in a mess.
“This is unacceptable, waterpoints areidentified at specific spots, and this one atthe 33km mark is in a terrible state,” saidMargie du Toit, Chairperson of MuiriteStriders Athletics Club.
“It has been cleaned during last week, butduring the past weekend some residentshave againt dumped blue refuse bags at thisspot.”
According to Councillor Terblanche, mu-nicipal officers have indicated that theywould clean the area prior to the marathon.
Unopened mail, accounts, flight boardingtickets, baby nappies and prescriptionmedi-cine boxes with surnames like Hempe, Rud-man, Nortje, Gcukumana and others werefound on the specific spot next to the R334.
“Please stop the dumping, we all want tolive in an environment that is clean andwelllooked after,” said Councillor Terblanche.

Die projek is geloods deur ’n oud-Brand-wagter, Lene Roux, wat tans Engels gee byMaecheon High School in Daegu, Suid-Ko-rea. Roux is die dogter van Eurika Roux,akademiese hoof en Engelsonderwyser byBrandwag, en het in Mei ’n Facebook-groepgeskep om interaksie te bewerkstellig tussenhaar Suid-Koreaanse studente en diematrieks by Brandwag.Leerders uit die twee lande kan mekaar in
die groep oor enweer vrae vra, foto’s van hulskole plaas en idees uitruil oorhoe die skoolstelsel hier verskilvan Suid-Korea.“Die doel van die projek was

Sixmembers of theKhanyisa Sewing&Mul-ti-purpose close corporation in Mande-laville are now looking forward to gettingtheir business in full operation after receiv-ing four brand new sewing machines.
“We have identified this project as it willfulfil a great need in the community as theywill provide from schoolwear to traditionalwear,” said Councillor Dick Leonard.
It was started by LimanyikhayaMadwaraand Noluthando Menziwe who also took re-ception of the brand new sewing machinesduring the official hand-over.
According to Councillor Leonard this was
part of his discretionary fund received fromthe Nelson Mandela Metropole to assist inthe community wherever the potential is toempower members and create job opportu-nities.
It is the fourth project supported by Coun-cillor Leonard in his Ward. The others whobenefited include Grace Unlimited musicgroup, an old age group who were treatedwith a performance by Soul Temptationsand the Eagle Stars Rugby Club who re-cieved rugby jerseys.

After an impressive 19 years as PremierSoccer League referee, Volkswagen GroupSouth Africa’s (VWSA), Buyile Gqubule hascalled it a day.
Gqubule, who manages the VWSAPeoplePavilion - the world class sports andrecreational facility for its employees - willnow concentrate on developing up and com-ing referees in Nelson Mandela Bay.
“Taking into account age and recurring in-juries, I feel now is the right time to call itquits. I have no regrets; I have enjoyed 19fruitful years on thepitch. Iwouldmostly liketo thank SAFA and my refereeing colleaguesfor the support in making my refereeing jour-ney a success,” said Gqubule.
“The greatest highlights of my career in-cluded being awarded the 2010 Referee of the
Year, officiating in Africa’s biggest derby, theSoweto Derby involving Kaizer Chiefs andOrlando Pirates. I also did duty in some worldclass international friendly matches and Iwould say my best game was the MTN 8 semi-final between Chiefs and Ajax Cape Town.”
Gqubule will now dedicate his time to thedevelopment of referees at the lower leagues.He said there were numerous referees whohad the potential to “make it big in the profes-sional ranks”.
“I am involved in a referee developmentprogramme in the Local Football Association(LFA) and through the support of Sedgars weare able to provide these upcoming refereeswith training equipment. I will always re-main a referee at heart and will officiate inthe LFA games from time to time.
“Wehaveover 50Level 4 referees at theLFAlevel who with support and proper guidance
have the potential to be amongst the best refe-rees in South Africa. We hope to see themmove on in their careers to become FIFA andCAF accredited referees,” said the EasternCape-based official.
Acting head of SAFA Referees Department,Lindile ‘Ace’ Kika said it was a big loss to thenational panel to lose a referee of Buyile’s cal-ibre.
