Descriptive Annex

1 INTRODUCTION This instrument is an NCR 7878-2000 scanner/scale, Class III, mains operated, self-indicating, weight only, Non-Automatic Weighing Instrument (Figure 1).

The instrument may be used for direct sales to the public. 2 DESCRIPTION

2.1 Construction

2.1.1 Mechanical

Main features:

− Designed for flush-mounting in checkout surface or Self-Checkout Kiosk, having frame extensions to support the instrument in the checkout counter.

− Steel framework supporting four load cells, barcode scanner and electronics.

− NCR7825 remote display unit.

− NCR7878 barcode scanner.

− Interface for POS connection.

− Remote power supply module.

2.1.2 Scale module

The scale module, containing four load cells, is a Flintec type PBNS-30.

2.1.3 Power supply

The remote power supply unit is an AcBel model AP12AD13, and provides a regulated DC voltage of + 12 V to the weighing module and the barcode scanner. A powered USB interface can also be used to power the scale and barcode scanner.

2.1.4 Analogue circuitry

The analogue signals from the load cells are amplified, filtered and digitised.

2.1.5 Digital circuitry

Main features:

− Computational values from the EEPROM and weight data from the scale board are processed by a micro-computer (X-scale) for continuous weight display and, upon request, transmission of weight to a POS terminal or computer.

− The EEPROM contains configuration data including span, zero and linearity settings.

2.1.6 Display

The weight display is provided by either a dual or single NCR7825 remote display (Figure 2). The display consists of an LCD panel with seven segments, each 9.5 mm high. The two

digits furthest to the right are used to show the unit of weight.

2.2 Operation

Main features:

− Upon power up, diagnostic routines are run to check the correct functioning of the instrument.

− Before display or transmission to the interface, the weight data is checked for stability.

− Zero tracking operates at zero indicated weight, and is only applied over the range of 4% of capacity.

3 TECHNICAL DATA

3.1 Rated operating conditions

The supply to the remote power supply module can be 90-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz.

The temperature range for the instruments is 0 °C / +40 °C.

3.2 Software

The firmware is fully embedded on the instrument and downloads of firmware are only possible with the use of an encrypted NCR flash drive. Each time the firmware is updated the non-resettable “FLS” event counter will increment by one. Firmware will be stored with a date stamp. The “FLS” event counter and date stamp can be displayed by pressing and holding the Zero button.

The markings and inscriptions shall fulfil the requirements of Article 6, Article 16, Article 17 and Point 1 of Annex III in Directive 2014/31/EU.

6 LOCATION OF SEALS AND VERIFICATION MARKS

6.1 A wire and seal or a paper seal is used to secure the cover protecting the calibration switch, which is housed in a compartment underneath the load receptor (Figure 3).

Components that may not be dismantled or adjusted by the user will be secured by either a wire and seal or a tamper-evident label and securing mark. The securing mark may be either:

− a mark of the manufacturer and/or manufacturer’s representative, or

− an official mark of a verification officer.

6.2 The CE marking is located on the data plate, which is on the right-front support flange (Figure 4).

6.3 The value of the “FLS” counter described in section 3.2 must be marked on a tamper-evident label on or near the rating plate.

7 ALTERNATIVES

7.1 Having an extended weighing receptor attachment. An additional vertical weighing receptor constructed from stainless steel is attached to the sub-platter. The vertical weighing receptor is part of the “live” weight receptor, and enables oversized goods to be weighed (Figure 5).

7.2 Having a Sensormatic EAS security tag deactivation antenna fitted beneath the load receptor scanner window (Figure 6).

7.3 Having the data plate placed on the scale module, and visible through the transparent plastic debris shield (Figure 7).

7.4 An alternative primary live weight indication may be provided on any NCR CE marked Point of Sale (POS) touch screen display, any NCR CE marked Self-Check Out (SCO) or any NCR CE marked Customer’s Information Display (CID) which is a CRT or Flat Screen Monitor with weight information conforming to the minimum numeric height requirement of 9.5 mm and the “kg” unit identification. The Max, Min and e = information must be shown near the weight indication.

7.5 Having the 7878-2000 model which is identical to 7874-5000 except that the weigh plate is smaller in size than the 7878 weigh plate. The model 7874-5000 can be mounted into an optional stainless steel mounting bracket and has a 2.5 cm longer extended weigh plate (Figures 8 and 9).

7.6 Having the NCR 7878-2XXX series which has an alternative design similar to that for 7874-5XXX series. The instrument has a composite material for the base (bottom bucket) instead of cast aluminum. There are no metrological differences between the two design types.

7.7 Having the NCR 7874-5XXX series which features an optional weigh plate made from stainless steel. This redesign weigh plate comprises of two separate sheets covering the weighing platform instead of two winged stainless steel sheets.

7.8 Having the NCR 7874-5XXX series which features an optional produce guard located adjacent to the weigh plate. The produce guard will be secured by four small screws. The dimensions are as follows; length 27.93 cm, width 1.62 cm and height 1.33 cm.

7.9 Having the NCR 7812-5XXX series, which is technically similar to model series 7878-2000 except that the housing is smaller in size (29.5 cm wide x 27.1 cm length x 13.9 cm high) and the operational buttons are located horizontally instead of vertically. A NCR7884 barcode scanner can be connected to the NCR 7812-5XXX series (Figure 12).

7.10 Having a modified Scale Digital Board as per drawing 497-0464801. 8 ILLUSTRATIONS
