Ukiah Celebrates the Fourth!!!!The!Fourth!of!July!is!a!major!civic!event!in!Ukiah,!with!a!parade,!barbecue,!quilt!show!and!other!traditional!entertainments.!!!!The!town's!population!begins!to!swell!a!few!days!beforehand.!Summer!residents!open!their!houses!and!campers!by!the!hunBdreds!stream!into!the!surrounding!forest.!Touring!motorcyclists!take!pictures!of!their!bikes!in!front!of!the!cafe.!!Main!Street!is!busy!with!traffic!and!people!out!for!a!stroll.!The!playground!fills!with!children!and!the!stores!lay!in!extra!supplies!of!ice!cream!and!beer.!!!!It's!a!great!time!to!be!up!in!the!mountains.

!!!The!City!of!Ukiah!office!in!the!Senior!Center!officially!opened!on!Monday,!June!

25.!"We're!moved!in,!but!not!put!away,"!said!City!Recorder!Donna!Neumann.!!!Under!the!terms!of!the!loan!for!the!building,!after!five!years!of!use!as!a!SenBior!Center!it!can!now!be!used!for!any!purpose.!The!Senior!Center!was!comBpleted!in!2004,!but!the!five!years!started!in!2007,!when!paperwork!for!the!project!was!completely!closed!out.!!!Neumann!has!been!moving!files!and!office!supplies!from!her!home!office,!where!she!has!done!the!city's!business!for!the!past!few!years.!The!office!furniBture!was!donated!by!the!U.S.!Forest!Service!when!the!Umatilla!National!Forest!moved!into!the!new!Supervisor's!
