Diction•The choice and use of words within a

piece of writing

Parts of Speech• Noun: a word used to

identify people, places, things, or ideas

Parts of Speech• Pronoun: a word that

replaces a noun. Since it REPLACES a noun, a noun must be used FIRST.

Parts of Speech • Adjective: a word that describes a noun; tells how many, what kind and which one

Parts of Speech • Verb: a word that describes an action, state of being, or helps create tense

describes a verb or adjective; tells when, where, how, why; normally ends in -ly
