U.S. Senator Deb Fischer’s Nomination Process - Timetable

All applications and required materials must be postmarked and addressed to Senator Deb Fischer’s Omaha office by this date. If you do not submit all of the requested information by the postmark deadline, your application WILL NOT be considered.

In addition to the enclosed application, the following materials are required to complete your file and will be used during the selection process. Please submit all materials together in a single package (potential exception for ACT/SAT scores).

1.Three References-We request the applicant submit three references attesting to the applicant's

qualifications and motivations to attend a service academy. -References should be varied and demonstrate strengths in many areas.-Relatives may not be utilized as references.-Letters of reference should arrive within sealed envelopes as part of your application

package or can be sent directly from the reference.2.Essay

-The applicant shall submit an essay of 500-750 words in response to this topic: Describe what draws you to public service and explain how that passion will help you in your military career.

-Essays shall be typed and double-spaced with size 12, Times New Roman font.3.Academic Transcript

-The applicant shall submit a certified high school or most recent college transcript.-Official transcript should include class rank.

4.ACT/SAT Scores-The applicant shall include a copy of results for all completed ACT or SAT tests.-If results are not readily available, please contact Senator Fischer's Omaha office.-Our office will be using your best composite score and will not be super scoring

5.Photo-The applicant shall include a recent head and shoulders photo in the application.-The submitted photo should include only the applicant.

6.Personal Resume-The applicant shall submit a personal resume highlighting scholastic achievement,

extracurricular involvement, athletic participation, employment and civic service.

November Interviews will be conducted by Senator Fischer’s Service Academy Advisory Board for qualified candidates with completed files. Senator Fischer’s staff will contact candidates with information regarding interviews once the application deadline has passed.

January Notifications from Senator Fischer will be delivered to candidates.

Senator Deb Fischer’s Nomination Process - Important Information

Applicants should keep the following in mind as they proceed through the U.S. Service Academies Nominations application process:

1.Senator Fischer is entitled to fill five vacancies at each Academy (USAFA, USMA, and USNA). Once a vacancy is filled, that slot is “charged” to her. She may only nominate young men and women to an Academy when a vacancy occurs in one of these charged slots, either by reason of graduation or withdrawal. When a vacancy does occur, she may nominate up to ten candidates for admission per vacant slot.

2.Senator Fischer uses the competitive nomination process. With the help of her Service Academy Advisory Board, she will provide the Academies with an unranked list of the ten most qualified applicants. Each Academy will select which student is admitted from the list of applicants provided.

3.A Congressional Nomination is only part of the process leading to admission to the U. S. Service Academies. Applicants are required to notify the Academies in which they are interested and to work within the Academies' individual admissions systems.
