WHO'S WHO

NOEL HARRISON (Sir) began his acting career in repertory theatre in England in 1951. Emigrating to the States in 1965 , Noel became known to Americans for his role in THE GIRL FROM U.N.C .L.E. with Stefanie Powers , and for his top 40 recording of "A Young Girl" and "Suzanne ". He has appeared on many TV shows including THE ANDY WILLIAMS SHOW, THE JERRY LEWIS SHOW , MISSION IMPOSSIBLE , THESM OTHERSBROTHERSSHOW,THE NAME OF THE GAME , LOVE AMERICAN STYLE, TO CATCH A THIEF, MOD SQUAD, HART TO HART , and game shows , talk shows , and variety specials . In 1969 he reco rded"The Windmills of Your Mind" for the sound track of the movie THE THOMAS CRO WN AFFAIR.The song an Academy Award and became an internationa l hi(

In summer stock and dinner theatre Noel has starred in HALF A SIXPENCE, WALKING HAPPY , SHE LOVES ME, JOE EGG , BLITHE SPIRIT , POOR RICHARD, NO SEX PLEASE WE'RE BRITISH and UNDER THE YUM YUM TREE. He has played the role of Henry Higgins in MY FAIR LADY created by his father, Rex. His performance as Arthur in Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera's acclaimed 1979 production of CAMELOT led to a season there as resident lead ing actor in 1980, where he appeared in MY FAIR LADY, NO NO NANETTE, PAINT YOUR WAGON, NAUGHTY MARIETTA, SWEET CHARITY and FANNY .

This is Noel's third visit to Austin . He has appeared at the Country Dinner Playhouse in 1978 in THE MOUSETRAP and in 1979 was artist in residence at St. Edward's, where he appeared in NO SEX PLEASE, WE'RE BRITISH and directed TOBACCO ROAD starring John Carradine, which won the Austin Circle of Theatres award for best production .

FROM THE DIRECTOR-Tonight you 're going to be entertained with music, visit a beautiful land (in your

heart), see Sir and Cocky play the game (of life?), experience victory and a few defeats , observe the antics of the urchins, and maybe absorb some subtle messages along the way . You can even supply your own ending (which way did they go?). All of this is possible thro ugh the unique art form of the "Musical" - America's contribution to the world of theatre . Therefore, it is fitting that I've chosen a musical for my last production at St. Edward's. A musical every year is a policy that 1 began at St. Edward's and one I hope would continue . One would also hope the curriculum would develop and additi onal faculty be added so that the program becomes truly profession al.

But all of this takes time , and five years is a long time; perhaps not in a life time, but in the theatre it is. So the time has come to seek new challenges and dreams. But I'll still dream of the progress we have made: the . first student productions in the American College Theatre Fest ival, the over fifteen scholastic and community awards , the new subscribe rs (over 800 now attending productions regularly), the attendance records (three in five years), the workshops, the Intern productions which have grown into an annual event , and of course, the many "stars" and students who have "tread the boar ds" here .

If you've been entertained, I'm thankful, for that was my goal. If the students learned to love the theatre and gained some knowledge, I'm truly grateful, for that was my desire. Theatre is a small world and we'll meet again in one production or another. Until then , "may the road rise up to greet you, may the wind always be at your back, and may you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're gone."

DOWNTOWN SKYSCRAPER, FRANKLIN E.

When the Tips Building was completed in 1877, it was the largest and most imposing structure in downtown Austin.

Now it's Franklin Savings' new home office. As our fourth restoration project to date, it's still another example of the diverse ways in which Franklin's local ownership works harder for Austin.

The Tips Building: an enduring testament to our belief that, in order to know where we're going as a community, we need to know where we've been.
