Kids in the Kitchen Last Friday our budding Chefs whipped up some very tasty Pumpkin Soup, accompanied by Garlic Bread, for lunch and for dessert they made Apple Crumble, topped off with some ice‐cream. For the Pumpkin Soup we used some of our school grown turmeric and one of our pumpkins. A very big thank you to Angela Knapen for your continued sup‐port in running this very beneficial (and tasty!) program.
Apple Crumble INGREDIENTS 3 medium apples, peeled and grated 1/3 cup plain flour 1/3 cup caster sugar 1/3 cup rolled oats 6Og butter, chopped DIRECTIONS To make the crumble, combine the flour, sugar, oats and butter in a bowl. Use your fingertips to rub the butter into the flour mixture until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Transfer apples into a 3 cup‐capacity ovenproof dish, draining off most of the liquid. Sprinkle crumble mixture over the apples. Bake in oven for 20‐25 minutes or until golden. Serve with ice‐cream and enjoy!
Pumpkin Soup INGREDIENTS 1 whole pumpkin peeled and diced splash of olive oil 2 onions finely sliced 4 garlic cloves crushed 1 large piece of turmeric crushed chicken stock powder to taste cream DIRECTIONS Sauté onion, garlic and turmeric in large pot with olive oil. Add pumpkin and chicken stock, just cover with wa‐ter and simmer until pumpkin is tender. Mash pumpkin and add cream. Add toasty warm Garlic Bread and enjoy!
