This coming 22nd-23rd November 2016 will see the 2nd biannual “USTART CONFERENCE MALAYSIA 2016” organized by University of Malaya, through its Centre of Innovation and Commercialization UMCIC, showcasing technology startups, interactive panel discussions from experts in university technology transfer and providing business networking and investor matching opportunities that will allow for a free flow exchange of best practices for research commercialization. The event aims to highlight efforts by universities in innovating and commercializing R&D outputs through the establishment of startup companies and carries the theme of "Creating Economic and Social Impact through University Startups".
Helming this year’s event for the third time after the MALAYSIA USTART 2015 and ASEAN USTART 2015 in conjunction with 1 ASEAN ENTREPRENUERSHIP SUMMIT (1AES) last year, the University of Malaya is committed to build an entrepreneurial ecosystem that will accelerate the scaling of the outputs of its R&D through their application to society; provide solutions to industry; and open opportunities for investment in cutting edge technologies

In November 2015, ASEAN USTART 2015, brought together more than 50 ASEAN University Startup Companies, networking at least 220 ASEAN USTART delegates, match up with 100 ASEAN U Angels and Ventures Funders and will have an open showcase accessible to industry and community.

UM has launched this event in strategic partnerships with CRADLE, MTDC, MBAN, PLATCOM VENTURES, BIOTECHCORP, ITMA, RICE BOWL STARTUP AWARDS, GLOBALCLAS, BIGBAND, & ASIA RESEARCH NEWS.
OUTCOME: Leadership in ASEAN opening MARKET OPPORTUNITIES for University Startups.
- Facilitating opportunities for CROSS BORDER JOINT VENTURES – An annual platform through USTART event.
- Providing CO-INCUBATION IN UNIVERSITY SPACES – At least one (1) space identified in each ASEAN Partners
- The Launching of ASEAN UStart Incubate Programme with NUS Enterprise. - PRODUCT LAUNCHED - Developing ASEAN best practices for University Startups

Another notable achievement was created from Dining with Angels program on 19th November 2015 (evening): A Full house event where delegates were given an opportunity to mingle with real angel investors from Malaysia Business Angels Network (MBAN) facilitated by Cradle Fund. More than 150 delegates and 20 angels were there and thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and music aside from the potential investment opportunities, deal flows and future networks built.
