Newsletter of the Uncommon Threads Quilt Guild Threadlines Vol. 24, Issue 12 December 2018 December Program – Holiday Celebration & Pot Luck Hello all! I can't believe it's December already. I hope you all are enjoying the season as much as I am. December also means it's party time! This month we will be having our Holiday Pot Luck; so bring something festive and delicious to share. Jane Jacobson will be leading us in a night of fun games and prizes. She does an amazing job so we're in for some good times! If you want to participate in a gift swapping game you'll need to gift wrap a sewing related gift with a value of $10.00. You can also make your own gift bag because there will be a prize for the most creative one. I'd like to thank everyone who attended last month’s meeting for all their hard work tying those quilts! It was a lot of fun and very productive to boot. I can't wait to see you all and the delicious goodies we'll share. Happy holidays! Karen Lightman, Program Chair INCLEMENT WEATHER POLICY It’s that time of year again. If the Shelby County Schools are closed, then the church is closed and there will be no meeting.

Message from the Prez Hi, Everyone, Well, by now everyone is finished with all of their holiday shopping, and everything is decorated, and all of the baking is done. Well, maybe just a few things are left to do, but I know you will get them done by the time Christmas is here; ‘cause ready of not, it will be here soon! Remember that it comes every year, so if the quilt isn't finished, or the other sewing is still not done, there is always next year. I used to make all of my Christmas gifts, and somehow I always seemed to save my Dad's gift until the last. Many a year I would wrap up a half finished gift and give it to him. Then he would ooh and aah and give it back to me so I could finish it! Now I just don't plan to make all of my gifts. I do however; have my gift ready for the guild gift exchange. Can't wait to hear what the rules will be this year for our gift game!! And don't forget it will also be a potluck, so bring something yummy to share with us all. We seem to be extra hungry on potluck nights!! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, Margaret Smith Committee Communications To contact an officer or committee Chair, find their phone number or email in the “who’s who” section on page six.

Community Service Sixteen, yes 16, quilts were taken to hospice this month. You are an amazing group to share your time in this busy season. Thank you for caring for others. While those who receive them may not have merry Christmases, at least they will be bright. Some of these quilts were tied at our November meeting. Thank you so much to all who participate in making the tops, quilting, binding, and tying. It “takes a village.” We are that!! We have tops to put together with batting and backing. We have batting!! Thanks again. We have kits—lots of kits for making tops. We have quilts ready to be quilted. Please, let’s do it well again in 2019. You are a generous group. We appreciate you. Merry Christmas, Carol Rife, Sandy Lumsden and Kay Smith

Really what’s better than potluck? Everyone bringing their best dishes! And games are always fun to watch or participate. Show and tell will be awesome. There are quite a few of you that we haven’t seen in months and we miss you. (You know who you are!). So come and join us. I know it’s dark and cold outside but aren’t you always happy once you come and share your passion of quilting and see your friends? Donna Northcutt and Pat Deeken Publicity If you have access to any social groups online, please post information about our meeting on Dec. 18 at 6:15 p.m. at Germantown United Methodist Church. Even though the address is 2331 S. Germantown Road, remind visitors to park and enter from the West Street side of the church. You all know that I am not the social media queen and desperately need your help letting younger sewists/quilters know about our fun group. Thank each and every one of you for all your help. Jodi Townley Block of the Month – Pinwheels Hi! There was a mix up in the November newsletter regarding the Block of the Month. I sent Jeanie the information for the December B.O.M. by mistake. I apologize for any confusion. So, I will step back and provide the B.O.M for November plus the Bonus Block for the second quarter.

President’s Block My president’s block has been posted on the web—scroll down toward the bottom—mine is 2018. For our newer members, our guild has a tradition that the outgoing president picks a block or theme, and then whoever wants to can make a block for her and sign your name, so she can make a memory quilt of her year as guild president. Mine is a simple cross block with three variations, any colors are okay. —Jeanie  Velarde
