PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Welcome back Welcome back everyone, after what I hope was a wonderfully relaxing holiday. It’s been lovely seeing so many smiling faces greeting us each morning as they enter school grounds. We are looking forward to another wonderful term here at VVPS as we continue to manage the challenges that come from the current COVID-19 pandemic. Valley View PS will be continuing to follow Department of Education guidelines. Students will continue to be reminded to practice best hygiene practices, will need to bring their own drink bottle to school as bubblers have been shut down and the enhanced cleaning service will continue throughout the term. We are still advising parents to keep their child at home if unwell with a doctor’s certificate required if longer than three days. For anyone who has travelled to Victoria recently, you are required to self-isolate for 14 days and seek testing if you develop flu-like symptoms. Physical distancing for students is not a requirement, however is for adults. I strongly advise you to remember this when standing at entry points to the school. There are several activities that schools are permitted to recommence this term: Sporting activities, including contact sports Canteens and uniform shops School assemblies (limited to 15 minutes and no external visitors). We will be running these in Stage groups to

minimise the size of the group and to enable assemblies to be completes in 15 minutes. Choirs and performing arts at school, with safety protocols in place Students may attend other schools for essential curriculum related reasons or placements (e.g. auditions or

placement tests) School photos (which will be held in Term 4) Scripture and Ethics lessons will begin in Week 3 of this term.

School Development Day (SDD) On the SDD, staff participated in professional learning activities focused on SENTRAL (the web-based system the school uses for attendance, wellbeing and reporting), grammar and Google Classrooms. It was a productive day and a wonderful way to start the term. Staffing Update This term sees some changes to staffing and we would like to welcome the following people to the VVPS staff: Mrs Hearne who joins us substantively as a classroom teacher. She will be teaching 3/4H for the remainder of the

year. Mrs Malinson who will be here on Wednesdays and Fridays as the new School Chaplin. Mr Elliott and Miss Rose who are joining the School Learning Support Officer (SLSO) team. We would like to welcome the following Pre-Service Teachers who will be with us this term: Miss Hall (1HA), Mr Bromley (1/2HM) and Mr Talbut (5/6S). We would also like to wish Miss Monks who has been working with 5/6B, all the very best in her teaching career as her internship concluded last Friday. Education Week Education Week for all public schools will be held in Week 3 of this term. The theme this year is ‘Learning Together.’ Traditionally this is a week for schools to showcase the wonderful opportunities we offer our students and usually involves parents being invited to assemblies, performances, BQQ’s etc. Unfortunately, due to COVID, this will not be the case this year. We will however, still be celebrating the week so be sure to keep an eye on our Facebook page for regular updates.

Congratulations We would like to congratulate Andrew H and Cynthia L on being offered places at Gosford HS for 2021. This is a wonderful achievement and we wish them both all the very best in their future schooling. Kindergarten 2021 We are now taking enrolments for all students who are eligible to start school in 2021 in our Kindergarten classes. Children may be enrolled in Kindergarten at the beginning of the school year if they turn five years of age on or before 31 July in that year. By law, all children must be enrolled in school by their sixth birthday. Mrs Anderson has organised a wonderful transition program for our incoming students and details of this will be sent home in the enrolment pack. Please call the front office (4328 4433) and we will send enrolment forms home for you to complete and return. You will also need to provide your child’s original birth certificate, statement of complete immunisation from Medicare and proof of your current address. We look forward to welcoming our new friends next term. Communication It’s our aim to ensure that all families are aware of what is happening at school though fortnightly newsletters, updates through the school app, Facebook page and the school website. It is important to keep abreast of any developments, especially given the current climate. Uniforms It has been lovely to see the overwhelming majority of students return to school this term in full school uniform, including a school hat. Let’s keep up the great work and show our community how proud we are of our school. If you do need to visit the Uniform Shop (open on Friday mornings from 8:30am – 9am) you will need to sign in at the office first. Return and Earn Collection Our Year 6 Leaders, with the help of Eli from the Glenvale class, will continue to be at the entry gates each Friday morning to collect cans and bottles for their Return and Earn program. We have been incredibly impressed with the support they have received each week and we would love to see that continue.

Have a great week, Kirsty Squires

Principal

SRE Recommencing Term 3 We are looking forward to welcoming back our SRE teachers to Valley View. Scripture lessons will begin in Week 3 on Thursday, the 6th of August. Lessons are conducted fortnightly.

Kerrie Koopman SRE Coordinator

STAGE 3 EXCURSION Dear parents, In response to current COVID conditions, increased restrictions and the uncertainty around this we thought we would touch base to explain where we are at in terms of the Stage 3 Camp excursion. In line with department guidelines, camps in Term 3 have been placed on hold, however, at this stage there is no advice in terms of camps in Term 4. As a team we have decided that at this stage we will still go ahead so that students have something to look forward to and therefore we ask that the $50 deposit is paid by Friday 7th August. We will monitor any updates from the department and then make a decision by the end of the term at the very latest. If we have to cancel there will be a full refund of any money paid including your deposit. If there are any questions or concerns please contact your child's teacher.

Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding. Stage 3 Team
