INTRODUCTION: Vapour Degreasing is the simplest and the most efficient method of removing oil and grease from
metal parts before surface treatment, finishing processes such as Electroplating, Phosphating,
Anodizing, Industrial Linings and Heat Treatment before overhaul and during maintenance and
repairs.
PROCESS:
The solvent in the tank is electrically heated to a
specific temperature. When the solvent attains the
boiling point, vapour is created. This vapour is
restricted inside the tank by water cooling systems
(cooling tower / chiller) so that vapour remains
inside the tank. When greasy /oily article is
suspended in vapours, the solvent condenses on it
dissolves the oil and falls back into the sump. The
cleaning action continues till the article being
cleaned reaches the temperature of solvent vapour.
By the time all traces of grease and oil have been
removed. The vapour will penetrate into the deepest
recesses of the articles and clean them in the matter
of minutes.
FEATURES:
• Special adopted design for minimum solvent
losses.
• Efficient water separator for reclamation.
• Efficient, durable and easily removable type heating elements.
• Efficient copper cooling coils and cooling jackets provide a good arrangement for solvent
condensation.
• Control for heating coils are provided which trip
off when it reaches a set temperature or if the
cooling is insufficient.
• Electric timer for work control.
• Temperature indication of water inlet/outlet
temperatures
• Efficient way of filling solvent into the tank
through filling port.
• Dip stick to check the level of solvent.
• Uniform quality of degreasing throughout.
• A very efficient, time saving and labour saving
equipment.
• Very little maintenance
• No fire hazard.
EQUIPMENT DESIGN FEATURES:
Equipment design follows the
selection of a cleaning cycle and work
handling method. Important design
considerations to achieve effective,
economical, and safe operation are
summarized below.
SIZE OF EQUIPMENT:
The size of the tank is determined by
the dimension of the largest workload
that will be suspended from the hoist
Ideal to have at least 50% greater
vapour or working area than that
required for the size of the largest
part. Otherwise, the work going in and
out will act as a piston to displace
solvent vapours out of the machine.
FREEBOARD ZONE:
Freeboard is the distance from the top of the vapour level to the top of the degreasing tank.
Optimum freeboard height-to width ratio decreases, solvent losses
TYPES OF HEAT INPUT: The heating for the degreaser can be designed as per client’s need /
existing arrangement viz. electrical, hot water, steam or thermic fluid.
The control of the degreaser is essentially the control of the solvent vapour. The control of
vapours at the desired vapour level is accomplished by the flow of water or other coolant through
coils and a jacket around the walls.
COOLING COILS AND WATER JACKET:
A welded jacket is sometimes used around the tank perimeter at the vapour level. The prime
function of the jacket is to keep the wall of the freeboard zone cool to prevent vapours from rising
because of convection.
Coolant flows through closely spaced turns of pipe positioned to control the vapour level of the
degreaser. These can consist of either a helical coil positioned in an offset compartment leaving a
clear sidewall within the degreaser body or multiple passes can be provided around the inside
perimeter of the tank.
THERMAL INSULATION:
The area around the vapour zone will be jacketed for
thermal efficiency.
WATER DISTILLATION & SLUDGE REMOVAL PORTS:
These will be provided at suitable places on the tank
LID:
A light weight FRP lid will be provided to prevent wastage of
trichloroethylene during idle times.
