action. An action verb may be made up of more than one word.
The director shouts at the members of the cast.

Action Verbs Action verbs can express physical
actions, such as shout and arrive. They can also express mental activities, such as memorize and forget.
Identify Action Verbs
Write the action verb in each sentence 1. Mom and Dad play golf on Saturday. 2. Six juicy hamburgers sizzled on the

Transitive Verbs

Intransitive Verbs
A transitive verb has a direct object
An intransitive verb does not have a direct object.

Recognize Transitive and Intransitive Verbs
Underline the action verb. Then write T if the verb is transitive or I if the verb is intransitive. If the verb is transitive, draw an arrow to the direct object or objects.

Verb Tense
Tense denotes the time of the action indicated by a verb. The time is not always the same as that indicated by the name of the tense.
Present Tense
Present tense expresses action which is going on at the present time or which occurs always, repeatedly, or habitually.
Examples: He sees the train. He eats cereal for breakfast every day.
Past Tense Past tense expresses action completed
at a definite time in the past.Examples: He wrote the letter yesterday.
She lived to be 90 years old.
Future Tense
Future tense expresses action which will take place in the future.
It uses the helping verbs will or shall* and the present tense form of the verb).
Examples: She will present the report tomorrow.
I shall wait here until you return.
Traditionally, shall is used for 1st person and will for 2nd and 3rd persons.
