General Power Tool Safety Warnings WORK AREA

Keep your work area clean and well lit. Cluttered benches and dark areas invite accidents.

Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as presence of flammable liquids, gases ordust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.

Keep bystanders, children, and visitors away while operating a power tool.Distraction can cause you to losecontrol.

General Power Tool Safety Warnings ELECTRICAL SAFETY

Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugswith earthed (grounded) power tools.Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.

Avoid body contact with grounded surfaces such as pipes, radiators, ranges and refrigerators. There is anincrease risk of electric shock if your body is grounded.

Dont expose power tools to rain or wet conditions. Water entering a power tool will increase the risk of electricshock.

Do not abuse the cord. Never use the cord to carry the tools or pull the plug from an outlet. Keep cord awayfrom heat, oil, sharp edges or moving parts.Damaged cords increase the risk of electric shock.

When operating a power tool outside, use an outdoor extension cord for outside use only.Use of a cordsuitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock. If operating a power tool in a damp location is unavoidable, use a residual current device (RCD) protectedsupply. Use of an RCD reduces the risk of electric shock.

General Power Tool Safety Warnings PERSONAL SAFETY

Stay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a power tool. Do not use toolwhile tired or under influence of drugs, alcohol or medication. A moment of inattention while operating powertools result in serious personal injury.

Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection. Protective equipment such as dust mask,non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.

Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure the switch is in the off-position before connecting to power sourceand/or battery pack, picking up or carrying the tool. Carrying power tools with your finger on the switch orenergising power tools that have the switch on invites accidents.

Remove adjusting keys or switches before turning the tool on. A wrench or a key that is left attached to arotating part of the tool may result in personal injury.

Do not overreach. Keep proper footing and balance at all times. This enables better control of the power tool inunexpected situations.

Dress properly. Do not wear loose closing or jewellery. Keep your hair, clothing, and gloves away frommoving parts. Loose clothes, jewellery, or long hair can be caught in moving parts.

If devices are provided for the connection of dust extraction and collection facilities, ensure these areconnected and properly used. Use of dust collection can reduce dust-related hazards.

General Power Tool Safety Warnings TOOL USE AND CARE

Do not force the power tool. Use the correct power tool for your application. The correct power tool will do thejob better and safer at the rate for which it was designed.

Do not use the power tool if the switch does not turn it on and off.Any power tool that cannot be controlledwith the switch is dangerous and must be repaired.

Disconnect the plug from the power source and/or the battery pack from the power tool before making anyadjustments, changing accessories, or storing power tools.Such preventive safety measures reduce the riskof starting the power tool accidentally.

Store idle power tools out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the power toolor these instructions to operate the power tool. Power tools are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

Maintain power tools. Check for misalignment or binding of moving parts, breakage of parts and any othercondition that may affect the power tools operation. If damaged, have the power tool repaired before use. Many accidents are caused by poorly maintained power tools.

Keep cutting tools sharp and clean. Properly maintained cutting tools with sharp cutting edges are less likely tobind and are easier to control.

Use the power tool, accessories and tool bits etc. in accordance with these instructions, taking intoaccount the working conditions and the work to be performed.Use of the power tool for operations differentfrom those intended could result in a hazardous situation.

General Power Tool Safety Warnings SERVICE

Have your power tool serviced by a qualified repair person using only identical replacement parts. This willensure that the safety of the power tool is maintained.

GENERALThe ERvibrators are electric motors dust-proof and designed with eccentrics located at the ends of the shaft.

According to the types they operate either directly from the network or through a frequency converter.

    Standard voltages are 230V/400V - 3 phases - 50Hz and 42V - 3 phases - 200Hz from a frequency converter.

The electronic and electric devices may contain potentially hazardous substances. Dont throwthem in nature but evacuate them according to the local regulations and the legislation in forcein the country of use.According to the European directives 2002/95/CE and 2002/96/CE.

The original manual is in English.

DESIGNThe ERvibrators consist of a 3 phase induction motor equipped with adjustable eccentrics located at each end ofthe shaft, inside easily removable end covers. The insulation class of the motor winding as well as the characteristics of the grease in the bearings allows thevibrator to operate in a very reliable way.

The casings are made either of cast graphite spheroid iron or cast aluminium, according to the type. The bracket mounting kit allows the vibrator to be moved quickly from one mounted position to another with ease.

The end covers are made of either pressed steel sheet or cast aluminium.High capacity bearings have been selected to withstand the high centrifugal force generated. The electric motors use high quality magnetic materials and are specially designed to withstand vibration. They are highly efficient which involves the biggest centrifugal force in the smallest volume. Some external vibrators are equipped with thermistors.

the power supply before starting any work(Fig.1)!

    Fig. 1

    LOCATING AND FIXING

The vibrator motor can be mounted in any position.

Before mounting the vibrator on the structure it is recommended that the centrifugal force be adjusted (seeAdjustment of centrifugal force). The structure must be of sufficient stiffness in order to get the best vibration effect. If the structure is not stiff

enough it will be necessary to reinforce it. The reinforcement can be obtained by welding a heavy plate onthe structure. The plate is used to mount the vibrator with bolts or bracket. The mounting surface must be flat, clean and unpainted, to avoidtroubles in the transmission of the vibration and damage to thevibrator (fig. 2).

    TRANSPORT, HANDLING AND STORAGE

Transport of the packed vibrator should be carried out on a woodenpallet using a suitable pallet lifter (fig3) or by means of the speciallifting eyes fixed to the main body of the vibrator (fig 4).While opening the packing it is very important to check together withthe despatch note that the contents correspond to what is written inthe despatch note and to what was ordered. It is also important tocheck that the vibrator motor has not suffered any damage due tocarelessness of the forwarder, if damage has occurred, both

and the forwarder should be notified immediately.

Fig. 3If the vibrator motor is stored for a long period, the room in which it isplaced must be covered and have an ambient temperature between5 and 50C and relative humidity not more than 60%.

    Fig. 4

    BOLT MOUNTING

Bolts used in the fixing must be 8.8 class (high resistance steel according to ISO) and screwed directly in thestructure, or in the mounting plate welded on the structure. The bolts have to be tightened with a torque wrench. The tightening has to be checked after 30 minutes and then every 100h (see Maintenance for locking torquevalues). If mounting with bolts and nuts is used, the nuts must be of self-locking type.

    CONTROL OF VIBRATOR CONDITIONS

Before installing, it is important to verify that the vibrator is in goodcondition, especially if it has been stored for a long period. Thefollowing checks could save problems at a later date.

    1. Check that the shaft turns free, without chatters and that ithas axial clearance (fig. 5).

Fig. 52. Check the motor insulation toward ground, by using a rigidity

proof at 2.2 kV tension for 5 seconds (fig. 6). In case anyabnormal is found, please contact us immediately.

    Fig. 6

    ELECTRICAL SUPPLY

The vibrators must be connected to the supply with a cable typeHO7RN-F (network supply), with one yellow-green employedexclusively for the grounding (fig. 7) or type AO7RN-F (frequencyconverter supply for the model ER207B/ER407B/ER507B).The cable has to be sized according the current specified on thevibrator data plate. It must be tension and friction free, especially inthe vibration area close to the vibrator.

    NOTE: The ER407B 42V-3-200Hz has a EC plug already connectedto a cable A07RNF 3G1,5mm of 0,60m.

    Fig. 7

Check that the gland is properly locked in the terminal box as well asthe cable in the gland, if they are not, the vibrator is not water anddust-proof.

NOTE: Possible extenders of the cable must be effected by using ECplugs and outlets and in conformity with rules in force. The cableterminals must be with eye, pre-insulated, with hole suitable for thepins of the terminal box. Once fixed to the leads check that there isno faulty/incorrect connection which could cause short circuits (fig.8).

    Fig. 8

Too long supply cables cause tension fall, so sometimes it is necessary to increase thelead section. In any case follow prescribed regulations.

The connection to the pins of the terminal box must be executedfollowing Change the supply voltage ,the reference numbersappear in the identification plate under entry SC.

Place the washers as in (fig. 9). The nuts of the pins must be lockedto the torque indicated in the maintenance/locking torque.

Do not forget to install the flat and knurled washers.

TESTINGAfter the vibrator has been mounted, it has to be tested before normal operation.First of all, check that the vibrator is properly connected for the relevant voltage.Use an ammeter to check that the current does not exceed the value specified on the vibrator data plate. If the

current exceeds the specified value stop temporarily the test to find out the reason for the overloading (seeinstructions below).

    OVERLOAD

    1. If the vibrator has been subjected to extreme cold before being started, the current during the first 5-6minutes may exceed the permissible value. This is a normal situation. The higher value is caused by thestiffness of the grease due to the low temperature.

The current decrease is proportional to the vibrators temperature decrease. In some situations the reduction of thecentrifugal force is unavoidable in order to warm the grease easily to reach the operating temperature. This processavoids the motor protection continuously interrupting the power supply and also the risk of damage due to excesscurrent.

When the current reaches an acceptable and steady value, the centrifugal force must be set at the previous value.

    2. If several vibrators are working on the same structure, interactions between vibrators themselves mayoccur in such a way that the rated current is exceeded not only during start-up but also during operation.

If the overload becomes so high that the motor protector interrupts the supply, the fault has to be found andcorrected (see Procedure in the event of excessive load).

PROCEDURE IN THE EVENT OF EXCESSIVE LOAD

In case of permanent excessive load, the following matters have to be investigated :

    1) Check that the vibrator has not worked loose.2) Check that the vibrator mounting surface satisfies the requirements specified in " INSTALLATION".3) Check that the centrifugal force is not adjusted at a too high value.4) Check that the vibrator is properly sized (not too small.).

(*) These models do not need a periodical re-lubrication, but only the bearing cleaning and grease substitution every 5000working hours.

In case the user decides to use the re-lubrication system, the interval is about 1200 working hours.

Grease quantity to introduce through the nipples is reported in the columns above.

(**) These bearings do not need any maintenance, but only their replacement when damaged.

    (a) The grease used and recommended for these external vibrators is : BURMAH CASTROL COMPANY : TRIBOL 3030/100WITH T.G.O.A.

Do not mix grease with different features.

Before introducing new grease, ensure that the grease nipples are very clean so as toavoid dust entering the bearings.

    DISASSEMBLY:

    1) Remove the end covers (18).2) Note the position of the eccentrics (22).

    3) Remove the bolts (30), the washers (31) and the eccentrics (22).4) Remove the bearing brackets (2) and the rotor (3).5) Use a drift to remove the bearings (5) from the bearing brackets (2).

This is the typical process for dismantling. Some differences appear in the design of the vibrators which composethe ranges: eccentrics arrangement, bearings...

However it is very easy from the exploded views to find the right process.

    ASSEMBLY:

Before assembly make sure that O-rings (17) and seals (19) are not damaged.

After washing the bearings with WHITE SPIRIT, pack them with the specified quantity of grease. The grease as well as the tightening torques of the end covers bolts are specified in Maintenance.

    1) Fit the bearings in the bearing brackets using a press or hit gently on the bearings with a wooden or leadenmallet.

    2) Then proceed as for dismantling but in the reverse order. When inserting the rotor into the stator, take carenot to damage the windings. Adjust the eccentrics.

The vibrators are designed for continuous operation. In some applications it is essential to change the direction ofthe rotation i.e. conveyors, feeders, etc. to get the force in only one direction. This can be achieved by crossing twowire phases of the supply cable.

    ELECTRIC CONNECTIONS

    COUPLINGS

Only vibrators designed with dual-voltage windings are reconnectable. To obtain the correct voltage, reconnect the links as shown in fig. Here below.

The terminal board with links is located in the terminal box.Tighten the terminal board nuts firmly after reconnection.

Make sure that the rubber gasket between the terminal box and its cover makes a good seal.

    THERMAL CUT-OUT FOR THERMISTOR PROTECTIONS

This optional protection system can be used only on the 3000 r.p.m.Thermal cut-out: P/N 4700365146

    WIRING

    - Connect the thermistors of the vibrator (2 terminals in the terminal box ) to the input P1 and P2 of thethermal cut out.

    - Connect the electrical supply to A1 - A2.

    OPERATING

When the vibrators temperature exceeds the thermistors temperature limit, the thermal cut-out light is on and

both relays are actuated. The relays remain actuated as long as the reset switch is not pressed or a closed contact is applied on terminals 1and 2.The contacts 11-12-14 and 21-22-24 can be integrated in a process control in order to cut the electrical supply ofthe vibrator when the temperature limit is reached.
