From Fr. Dan...This past Tuesday Bishop Nelson J.

Perez was installed as the 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Cleveland. We pray for him at every Mass. Under his apostolic leadership may we remain united in the head, Jesus Christ, and further his Gospel message to others here in Akron and throughout Northeast Ohio.

Yesterday marked a significant event also. Bishop Roger Gries, OSB, retired Auxiliary Bishop of Cleveland, celebrated a Mass of Thanksgiving in St. Mary Church. The occasion was the Centennial of St. Mary School Building. (Yes, another 100 year old building!) More so, we celebrated 130 years of continuous Catholic Education at St. Mary Parish.

To honor the occasion, and with the permission of the St. Bernard Pastoral Council, the statue of the Blessed Mother and Child that stood on the facade of St.

Bernard School for all its years was gifted to St. Mary School. When St. Mary Parish began educating children on the south side in 1887, St. Bernard Parish laid the cornerstone in its former school building. The statue was cleaned, and Bishop Gries blessed it yesterday. It will be raised above the main entrance of St. Mary School later this month. By the way, the cornerstone of St. Bernard School (1887-2014) now rests at the base of the stairs leading to University Avenue.

You will notice on our bulletin cover that we now have one bulletin for both parishes. Bulletins were combined briefly back in 2012 when St. Mary was re-established. After years of 'cutting and pasting', we have returned to a shared bulletin - as is the case in a growing number of parishes in the U.S. with a shared pastor. Blessings on your week!ACME RECEIPTS – Thank you for your
