If you will be in the Vil- lage over the Thanksgiv- ing holiday, it might be fun to get together with friends and hold your own celebration. You can have a potluck or order a full Thanksgiving meal from a local gro- cery store. This can be ordered in advance and picked up the morning of Thanksgiving. Also, try one of the delicious reci- pes on page 2 for your own holiday feast! Thanksgiving is a holi- day celebrated on the fourth Thursday of No- vember every year. It is traditionally seen as a day to express gratitude for we are thankful for, especially family and friends. For most Ameri- can families, the main event of the day includes a large meal with foods like turkey, potatoes and gravy, pumpkin, cran- berry sauce, breads, and pies. Although it is un- known how the annual holiday originated, the ritual of celebrating and giving thanks for the fall harvest can be found in many Native American and European cultures. Many American school- children learn that the First Thanksgivingoc- curred in 1621 at Ply- mouth Plantation, Mas- sachusetts between the pilgrims and Native American peoples, al- though historians agree that this was not the first thanksgiving to ever take place.
