From the Baron & Baroness
A missive unto the Populace of fair Aneala from Their Excellencies, Lachlahn and Jane. Right trusty and well-beloved gentles of Aneala, we, Lachlahn and Jane greet you well and most heartily wish you the best that this winter season has to offer. Nowhere has the pride we take in our populace been given greater justice than at the recent coronation of Their Majesties Siridean and Siban. It was heartening to see the talents of Aneala's people so magnificently displayed, in the bright arrays of banners, the savour of the food, the prowess upon the field. The splendour and enjoyment of this event was remarked upon by those who visited these lands, and we are certain the occasion will not be forgotten by those who attended. The time is now approaching when we must choose new champions of Sword, Bow and Rapier. Plans are well in hand for the Championship event, and well do we look forward to once again witnessing the excellence of our populace in the arts martial. Now is the time to hone your skills in the tournaments leading up to Championship, and to make ready to celebrate the deeds of our present champions, and welcome their successors. Meanwhile, we are pleased to have an opportunity to help those who worked so hard to make Coronation such a spectacular success, through the upcoming personal projects workshops. We look forward to your company and to the sharing of skills and ideas. Yours in service, Lachlahn Jane Baron Baroness

From the Lochac Herald
Hi All, In the cover letter for the latest Letter of Acceptance and Return, Wreath Herald opened the following issue for comment:- "Currently laurel wreaths are reserved for - and are a required component of - territorial arms. This topic has been a subject of debate many times. It has long been argued that the requirement that territorial arms have a laurel wreath as a prominent component of the arms is ahistoric. The counter-argument has been that it makes it easy to identify territorial groups which, while not a period practice, is very much part of SCA historical practice. We are considering removing the requirement that territorial arms have a laurel wreath and invite comments from the College of Arms and others. Those who wish to comment but are not commenting members of the College of Arms (and thus unable to post to OSCAR), may send their commentary directly to [email protected]; those comments will then be posted verbatim to OSCAR." Comments can be sent to wreath herald laurel herald or myslef (having problems with [email protected] address) Please title the email appropriately William
From the Seneschal
Greetings, There are some items of Baronial regalia that have been replaced in recent years and we need to decide what to do with them. This will come up at Augusts' Council Meeting. Baronial Coronets. Suggestions so far: Keep them to use at investitures. B&B to keep them for their historic value Give them to a past B&B, perhaps the first to wear them, perhaps the last to wear them. Melt them down to make something else, eg new regalia or award tokens. Cut out the swans with the stones set in them and turn them into chains of office for the Baron and Baroness. Ironwing I. Suggestions so far: Turn the wood in the handle into something, eg new regalia or award tokens Give it to the person who donated it or a previous Champion Kneeling Cushion. Contrary to rumor this item is NOT being disposed of. It will still be used by the Baron and Baroness when the Crown visit. Please give this matter some thought and contribute any other ideas you might have to the list and come to next month's council meeting for the discussion. Catherine d’ Arc

From the Arts & Sciences Officer
Greetings Artisans and Scientists of Aneeala.
Our general A&S meeting at out home on the 2nd went well. Some were working on costumer, others on
illumination and surprisingly quite a few on calligraphy. Other his the pool, a good time was had by all.
The next meeting will be on August 30th at Kerridwen’s and Duncan’s, again a “free to do your own stuff”, or
get help starting something new. At the upcoming Anealan Ball we have a costume competition based on Blue,
White and Gold. Then at Championship we are having a competition based around Heraldry for fighters, camp
accessories and perhaps a Cook’s Guild competition. Kingdom wide we have the November Crown Tourney in
Innilgaard. Killic and I will be travelling over so we can take entries if you like. Also the Embroiderer’s Guild
has a competitions.
I also need articles for “The Leaf” the Arts & Sciences magazine. Articles are good way to get your knowledge
spread around and shared, it also gives you –practice for providing documentation . The closing date is
December 31st 2008 for publication in January 2009.
As always I’m here to facilitate your needs in the realm of the Arts and Sciences so give me a call or email me.
I am always willing to help if you need it and if I don’t have a clue, I can get information.
Yours in Service
Branwen of Werchesvorde

This year the Balingup Medieval Carnivale Demo will be run by the Shire of Boesenberg. All the West Coast SCA groups have offered to help in any way we can so we need lots of volunteers to head down to Balingup for the fourth weekend in August. Accommodation can be found at http://www.balingup.asn.au/p16-accomodation.html or there is always room to camp at Balingup Transit Park, (08) 9764 1051 but do it now, as places are filling up fast. The Carnivale always gets a lot of visitors from the city, as well as country centres, so it is definitely in our interest to put on a great show for this event. It’s always a lot of fun and the local people really appreciate our efforts.
Set up for Saturday will be from 7.30am Carnivale times are:
Saturday 10.00am - 5.00pm Sunday 9.00am - 4.00pm
We need combatants in both heavy and Rapier, as well as people willing to demonstrate various skills in the Arts & Sciences. There will be two sets per day in the Martial Arts. A program will be posted closer to the day.
For all those planning to come down for the weekend/day, please contact Liduina at [email protected] or 0421 806 768 Petrol reimbursement will be happening as per previous years.

Do you have any unused armour lying around? Know someone who has armour gathering dust?
Or some leather or basket hilts you no longer need?
I'm looking for armour and other fighting equipment no longer being used to put together a few loaner suits so we can help our new and future fighters get into the action sooner, to enjoy the thrill of combat, the clash of arms, the braining of our mates and the exhilaration of inflicting pain upon others
before they do it to us.
