SMOKE DETECTORS NCBAM (North Carolina Baptist Aging Ministry) in conjunction with NC Fire Marshall has new lithium smoke detectors to be given away to anyone 65 or older. Two of our members, Bill Boyette and Harold Tharrington, have been trained to install them in members homes. If you are interested in having one, please call the church office and leave your name and number. They will contact you and set up a time.

FBC SMITHFIELD BACKGROUND CHECKS As previously voted on by our church, we are moving forward with our background screening for volunteers. We are partnering with the firm Trusted Employees, as recommended by our insurance carrier, to provide thorough and confidential checks for those who work or are considering working with children (birth – 18 y/o) in our church. Annually we will randomly draw names of these volunteers to be checked who are currently part of our church fellowship. Anyone who is new to our church family will be screened automatically, if they are wanting to work with our children. All background information is secure and private from start to finish. If you have any questions about the background checks, please contact Lee Colbert or Bryan Harris.

WE HAVE OPENINGS! The Weekday Early Education program of our church still has openings in the 2 year old and 4 year old classes for next year. Please let your friends, families and neighbors know about our preschool program. Registration forms may be picked up in the church office or printed from the church website.

IT’S THAT TIME It’s time to begin our Pine Cone Christmas Tree project! This year we plan to distribute the trees to the Kinston Veterans Facility and the NC Baptist Children’s Homes. We will begin Friday, June 10 at 1:00 p.m. in the Craft Room. Our goal is to finish before Thanksgiving. Come join the fun. Everyone can do something!!!

PLEASE NOTE If you are admitted to our local hospital and would like a visit from one of our ministers, you will need to let us know that you are there. Answer will be in next week’s Visitor.

30 And the apostles gathered themselves together unto Jesus, and told him all things, both what they had done, and what they had taught. 31 And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat. 32 And they departed into a desert place by ship privately. 33 And the people saw them departing, and many knew him, and ran afoot thither out of all cities, and outwent them, and came together unto him. 34 And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things. Mark 6:30-34
