    Volume 4, Issue 4

    30 October, 2015

We have had rave reviews all the way from the Kids Teaching Kids conference in Melbourne. Our students, Veronica Garrity, Abbey Joyce, Grace Kelly and Madison Knight, along with Mrs Baker, learnt a lot from other students, especially about solutions for urban landscapes around water and waste. Our presentation, exploring aspects of the agricultural industry and the sophisticated responses, including working with the Local Land Services, to deal with the challenges of farming, received a lot of comment and positive feedback. As the only school from New South Wales, and coming from a rural area, the students’ presentation offered a different perspective to the large audience. Katie Guise and Hannah Troth, representing the Local Land Services and Weddin Landcare respectively, attended the conference. They reported that all of the KTK team made special mention of the standard of their performance and that many of the dignitaries were very impressed as well. They both said they were very proud to be associated with our students, teacher and school.

Congratulations to Mr Brad Robinson. He has been appointed Deputy Principal at The Henry Lawson High School through merit selection. We are very excited to see Mr Robinson take on this role. As a classroom teacher, his classroom is a place of high engagement and learning, his work with his science colleagues in promoting science is well renown, and his commitment to our school community is great. Mr Robinson officially takes on the role as of next year; that does now mean that we will be looking to fill the Head Teacher Science position.

Last Thursday the Grenfell Rugby League club, supported by the Country NRL, hosted a girls league tag day. There were primary and secondary students from across the Central West. Some of the Year 12 sports coaching students and senior boys took on refereeing roles, coaching and organisation for the day. It was a great day of sport with our team making it through to the finals where they met a very strong team from Condobolin. Mr Barclay was highly impressed with the level of play from the students and how those in non-playing roles did great jobs.

On Friday the SRC spent a day developing their skills and their focus for the next 12 months. Led by Mrs Gorman and Mr Barclay, the students completed a range of workshops from sub-committees planning their activities, to a session on how to run an effective meeting led by Councillor Carly Brown, to team building activities and a session looking at mental health and ways the SRC can target this as part of their annual activities. The students said it was a busy day: a lot of work among the games.

The recommendation for the updated school uniform is included in this week’s newsletter. There is also a display in the foyer. We want your feedback. Please fill out the slip later in the newsletter and return it to school.

The P&C meets next Tuesday evening starting at 7.00pm in the school library. Come and join us.

A reminder to those students going to Lake Burrendong for

Crossroads in December, that the next payment of $100 is

now due. We would appreciate it if this amount could be paid

as soon as possible. The balance of $75 will be due in

November. Students should have received a note this week

regarding the medical consent form which needs to be

completed online by 11 November. Information regarding

what to take will follow closer to the date of the excursion. If

any parents or students have any questions, or require a new

note, please contact Mrs Nicola Mitton at school.

VOLUNTEER AWARD – YOUTH & OPEN CATEGORIES

Sport and Recreation are again holding the Central West Winter Sport Volunteer Award. It’s the end of the winter sporting season, but it’s not too late to recognise the efforts of the outstanding volunteers who keep sport going in our communities. The Award has separate categories for both open and youth (25 years and under) to recognise the importance of all aged volunteers in grassroot sports.

In 150 words or less tell us how your volunteer is worthy of being nominated. All nominees will receive a certificate, with the winner and runner up being awarded $250 & $100 (respectively) to spend on approved sports development programs. It’s a great way to say thank you to a coach, committee member, official or manager. It’s a simple process that won’t take long, but will make the nominee feel valued as a volunteer.

Nominations can be made online via the Sport and Recreation website

    sportandrecreation.nsw.gov.au/volunteeraward or call 6362 6623.

Nominations close Friday 6 November 2015.

    5 November (week 5) – a lunch of homemade

can. If you have already submitted five blue

merits since our last silver MAD held during

term 1, you will be on our list. Cut-off date to

get your merits in is Monday 2 November.

Looking forward to seeing you then.

Do you have half an hour or an hour to spare?

    Can you help?

The P&C is having a street stall and needs volunteers to help man the stall outside IGA from 12-4pm on Thursday 5 November.

Donations of cooking and saleable goods are also appreciated. These can be left at the school office on Wednesday 4 November or dropped off at the stall on the day.

If you are able to help, please contact Helen on 0428 542 708.
