The Loudoun County Department of Construc-tion and Waste Management reminds resi-dents that they have a variety of options when it comes to recycling electronics.

As of July 1, 2009, a new law went into effect in Virginia requiring computer manufacturers to provide free recycling of their computers and computer monitors sold for personal or home-office use. The most commonly used method is a free mail-back system provided by the manufacturer. Loudoun Sheriff Steve Simpson announces the formation of the 25th Citizen’s Police Academy, which will commence on Tuesday, Septem-ber 8, 2009.

The free sessions will be held one evening per week from September 8th through November 17th. Each session will be two hours in length and begin at 7 p.m.

All classes will be held at the Loudoun Sheriff’s Office 37 Catoctin Cir-cle location in Leesburg with the exception of the firearms training ses-sion, which will be held at the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office firearm’s range located off of Route 50, in the Chantilly area.

Sheriff’s Office personnel will conduct the training classes, providing an overview of all the aspects of law enforcement within the agency. Mem-bers of the class may also have the option of participating in a ride-a-long with a deputy after completing the academy.

The classes are open to Loudoun County residents over the age of 18. To enroll in the Citizen’s Police Academy, please contact Bonnie Burke at the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office at (703)771-5722, during normal business hours of 8:30 AM. to 5:00 PM.

All residents are reminded to lock their vehicles when unat-tended and to never

leave expensive items inside. During this sum-mer, many cases of lar-

cenies from vehicles have been reported. In

many of these cases items, such as GPS

units, MP3 players and wallets were left in plain view and in some cases

the vehicles were left unlocked.
