ICI’s working relationship with Wal-Mart

Stores Inc. began in 2006. Since that

time, ICI has successfully completed new

construction, expansion and renovation

projects at more than 20 locations across

the United States.

With a Wal-Mart construction volume

totaling more than $140 million over

the past 6 years, ICI is well-versed in

their stringent processes and rigorous

scheduling. One of the initiatives

that Wal-Mart insists upon for each

of its projects is mandatory SWPPP

Certification for all Field Superintendents.

The SWPPP Certification guarantees

environmental compliance with EPA

and also incorporates procedures for air

quality control. Currently, ICI has 9

SWPPP Certified Team Members and

another individual who is a Certified

Preparer of SWPPP.

Please see the following pages for

examples of ICI’s success with the

construction of new, ground up Wal-

Mart Stores:

Rockton, Illinois

This new 203,000 square foot Supercenter

on a 53 acre site on was completed in 49

weeks. Delays in municipality permitting

led to accelerated schedules, but ICI met

the challenge. During construction, ICI’s

team also completed $2.2 million in

IDOT road work in just 10 weeks. This

project was the first store in the Midwest

Region to incorporate a new high-

efficiency HVAC system, which is 15%

more efficient than standard systems.

Freeport, Illinois

Situated on more than 23 acres, ICI

completed construction of a 197,885

square foot new supercenter in 36 weeks.

This store is a prototype and currently

serves as a training center for many Wal-

Mart Store Planners and Employees.

Joliet, Illinois

For ICI’s third Wal-Mart Supercenter

project, our team completed this

205,000 square foot building in 35

weeks, skimming three (3) weeks off the

original construction schedule. Despite

a late construction start due to permit

delays and an unseasonably rainy spring,

our construction team was able to meet

Wal-Mart’s Grand Opening deadline.

Challenges included brick and block

construction instead of the typical pre-

cast method used by Wal-Mart and

the discovery of unsuitable soils during

construction. Moreover, the team also

completed installation of 518,400 square

feet of parking lot in three (3) weeks.

Waukesha, Wisconsin

ICI completed the construction of this

140,000 square foot new Wal-Mart

Supercenter and massive 31 acre site

in September 2010. In addition to the

typical retail store requirements, the

scope of work also included reclaiming

a site contaminated by a concrete

products manufacturing company. The

manufacturer produced precast concrete

and abandoned much of its discards

on site. ICI’s pre-construction testing

revealed buried concrete structures

throughout the site. To solve the issue,

ICI set up a temporary concrete crushing

plant to turn the abandoned structures

and other excavated materials into

suitable landfill. Over 19,221 cubic

yards of suitable fill material was crushed

and reused on site.

ICI also recycled 32.84 tons of wood

and 10.68 tons of metal on the project.

The new Wal-Mart Store incorporates

green areas and a retention pond. The

scope of work also includes constructing

two pad sites for future development.

Approximately 1.5 miles of highway

development were also included in the

project scope.

Chicago, Illinois (Pullman Neighborhood)

ICI was contracted in early Fall 2012 to

construct a new 155,000 SF Wal-Mart

in Chicago’s Pullman neighborhood.

The $16.5 million facility, situated on

more than 15 acres, is unique in the

sense that the City has outlined specific

Minority Business Participation (MBE)

goals. As such, ICI is working with the

Alderman to employee community

residents on-site. MBE subcontractors

are also fulfilling several major trades.

The project is anticipated to be complete

in July 2013.

Cicero, Illinois

In June 2013, ICI was contracted to

construct a new $19 million Wal-Mart

Store in Cicero, Illinois. The store will

be constructed on a vacant parcel in the

heavily industrial area at approximately

33rd Street and Cicero Avenue, north of

Hawthorne Race Course.
