OVERVIEW

EMC OVERVIEWThe 34th West Coast Energy Management Congress, attended by more than 1,800

industry professionals, brought together decision makers from both the public and private sectors. EMC was an unparalleled event featuring 4 concurrent tracks

presented by 60 of the nation’s foremost authorities in the energy disciplines, hosted by Puget Sound Energy (PSE), presented by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE)

and supported by a “who’s who” line-up of energy leaders and cosponsors.

The EMC event offered attendees additional training opportunities including 6 intensive AEE certification seminars, a Council on Women in Energy & Environmental Leadership (CWEEL) Breakfast, board meetings, an AEE

Chapter Luncheon, as well as free informative workshops in the exhibit hall.

Attendees were also given the chance to network with industry peers during the luncheons in the exhibit hall, an Opening Night Reception

at Taphouse Grill and other hospitality events.

The 100,000+ square foot exhibit hall contained 200 booths and featured a cross-section of equipment and services for new and retrofit projects.

AEE is excited to bring EMC back to Long Beach next year. Mark your calendars for June 7-8 , 2017 in Long Beach.

Overall experience at the Expo

The 2016 EMC featured an exposition highlighted by a solid cross section of energy efficiency, power, building systems, sustainable, and green facilities products and

services. The 100,000+ square foot exhibition hall, with 200 booth displays, was also home to many interactive attendee – exhibitor meeting points, such as the conference attendee luncheon on Wednesday and Thursday, and the complimentary exhibit hall workshops (presentation area one and area two). The complete list of participating

companies can be found on page 8.

FREE EXHIBIT HALL WORKSHOPS

These special workshops are designed to enhance attendees’ learning about new products on

display in the EMC exhibit hall, and allow for an interactive experience

between expo attendees and expert presenters. Expo-only

visitors, conference attendees, seminar delegates and any other

visitors to the show floor were able to participate in these session

for free. See Appendix B for a complete listing of workshops

presented at EMC 2016.

or other events did you find most interesting or beneficial this year and why?

• The ability to talk directly to a number of vendors and compare energy products and energy solutions.

• Mark Frankel’s session was full of good data and he was an engaging speaker.

• Thursday May 26 Session 2C: Building intelligence. Included real applications and experiences from people applying energy efficiency in

the workplace.• I found conversing with the other attendees, casually throughout the

day, in sessions and in the expo, to be the most beneficial for me.• The introductory session where Amazon and Microsoft representative

spoke was very informational.• The networking reception was awesome.

• The marijuana grow operation session was most interesting and beneficial because it provided another perspective of how a public

entity is looking at these grow operations and how they are handling the professional dilemma.

• Seattle Aquarium tour, demonstrated real examples of energy measures that you could see and interact with (aka not on a powerpoint).

• M&V 2.5. Cutting edge topics, directly relevant to what I do. I then got to chat more at the Taphouse reception.

• NRG energy blanket. Energy efficiency potential.• The free aquarium tour was very fun and informative. • The RCM sessions were very helpful and informative.

• Enjoyed the speakers who opened the conference a lot.• Hearing the success stories are great. The opening session with Amazon

and Microsoft was great - great to hear from leaders. The speaker at the Women in Energy breakfast was excellent.

• Building Cx• The panel moderated by Graham Parker. I like the combination of the

UC Davis presentation on the “Thermoometer” that allows occupants to give real-time feedback on comfort using an app. It was followed up by Optimum Energy, who said in their next update they hope to have

something like the thermometer and to use results from surveying occupants to make automated changes in the control system.

• Future of Lighting• LED LUMINAIRES for energy savings

• Dude, where’s my savings? - Clear, concise, and applicable to my work analyzing custom projects on HVAC systems.

• Taphouse allowed to meet and greet. Good networking.• Carbon WA breakout session with stand up economist was funny,

informative, grounding and inspirational.• I attended the economist comedian event about the carbon tax. That

was great. Plus the phase change material session and running into past co-workers (networking!)

Greetings from the Governor May 25 26, 2016

I am pleased to extend warm greetings to the attendees of the 34th West Coast Energy ManagementCongress (EMC). For those of you visiting us, it is a privilege to welcome you to the beautiful Evergreen State!

As the largest West Coast energy conference for business, industrial and institutional energy users, this forum represents an important opportunity for you to hear from industry experts about the future of energy in the Pacific Northwest, the development of a clean energy economy in our region, and the steps you can take to achieve greater energy efficiency, facility optimization and sustainability. For example, you will hear about the cutting-edge deployment of energy storage technologies, which is being funded through our state’s Clean Energy Fund in cooperation with Avista, PSE and SnoPUD, and you will learn more about the new Smart Buildings Center (SBC) inSeattle, a multi-functional energy efficiency headquarters funded by the Washington State Department of Commerce.

Energy efficiency is part of the DNA of Washington’s electricity industry. Since 1980, Washington and the broader Northwest have saved 50 million megawatts hours of electricity (five times the annual electricity use of the City of Seattle) and $3.78 billion in electricity costs. These savings have allowed us to take maximum advantage of our hydroelectric resources and have helped usmaintain the cleanest and least expensive electricity in the U.S. Although we’ve been investing in energy efficiency for decades, it still remains the lowest cost, most climate friendly investment we can make.

I’d like to thank the Association of Energy Engineers, your host sponsor Puget Sound Energy (PSE), and all of the corporate and media sponsors for making this important event possible. Washington is home to a number of nationally-recognized leaders in energy efficiency, and Iapplaud the work of organizations like PSE, Seattle City Light, SnoPUD, Tacoma Power and the Northwest Energy Efficiency Council, which have run highly successful energy efficiency programs for decades.
