Grants available for community renewable

energy projects

Working in partnership the Exmoor Trust and Exmoor National Park are

pleased to announce a new round of funding from the Carbon Neutral

Exmoor project to support community based renewable energy projects.

Funding is available to cover the costs of installing renewable energy

(including both power and heat) within community buildings across Exmoor

National Park. The funding is offered as a grant repayable via the governments

Clean Energy Cashback for a period of 10 years or until the grant is repaid

(whichever is the shortest). This is at minimal risk to the community as

cashback payments (through the Feed in Tariff for power and the Renewable

Heat Incentive for heat) are guaranteed for a 20 year period once a project is

accepted and the grant is only repaid via these contributions.

Archie McIntyre, Fund Manager and Vice Chairman of the Exmoor Trust

commented: ”We’re delighted to be able to play an active role in supporting

communities that wish to take advantage of cleaner and cheaper energy. Our

hope is that any community organisation that is interested in sourcing

alternative power or heat requirements will be able to do so without having

to find the significant capital funds often required for such schemes.”

On behalf of Exmoor National Park Dan James, Sustainable Economy

Manager, said: “To date the fund has been able to support over 20

community projects through the Carbon Neutral Exmoor project,

incorporating a range of technology from solar pv to woodchip heating

systems. Not only is this work helping to reduce carbon emissions within the

National Park it is also helping to provide modern facilities within community

buildings and helping them to reduce their monthly expenditure on fuel bills.”

Community buildings that have benefitted in the past have include sport clubs,

village halls, community owned shops, schools and even a pub. At this stage

any organisation that may be interested in taking forwards a project is

encouraged to submit brief details to the Exmoor Trust as an expression of

Interest by the end of March 2016. This will help to assess demand for the

scheme now and into the future and the Trust will advise you as to whether a

project might be eligible for a full application.

Trading Standards scrutinise second-hand car dealers

Trading Standards officers are focusing on the practices of used car dealers and

garages across Devon and Somerset.

Every year Devon and Somerset Trading Standards Service receives over 2,000

complaints about second-hand cars and servicing. Since April 2015 officers

have:

Visited 18 forecourts with 13 cars withdrawn from sale.

38 premises selling part worn tyres inspected – 23 traders had inadequate

documentation, 14 had non-compliant labelling and 13 partly worn tyres

with structural defects were found and were withdrawn from sale.

Officers submitted a car to 13 garages that offered free safety checks.

Twelve passed, but one trader returned the vehicle in an unsatisfactory

condition after carrying out work on the brakes.

To complain or for details regarding the protections for consumers contact the

Citizens Advice consumer helpline: 03454 04 05 06.

EXMOOR TRAIN & TOY FAIR

We’re back!!! Exmoor Coast Railway Modellers are offering an exciting day

for everyone on Saturday 27th February 2016 by presenting the return of

their annual Train & Toy Fair which had to be postponed in 2015 due to

building work at the venue.

The Fair takes place at Richard Huish College, South Road, Taunton,

TA1:3DZ just south of the town centre and only 5 minutes drive from

Junction 25 on the M5. There will be a wide selection of stalls selling all

that’s best in model railways, diecast vehicles, books, games, toys, cards etc.

In addition, we expect the West Somerset Railway to attend with their

latest news etc. There is also extensive free parking and high quality

refreshments will be served all day.

The venue is bright, modern and mostly disabled-friendly. Our Fairs have

proved to be a resounding success and one of the friendliest in the south

west.
