WATERLOO ROAD

RESEARCH INTO THE TITLES OF WATERLOO ROAD

The waterloo road titles are overall based in the classroom. They show children throwing things in the classroom. This shows them larking around and being “typical” kids. There is a theme tune in the background. It has a fast tempo and is loud. It is easy recognisable and you can tell what programme is about to come on the television.

As well as showing the children in the titles, it shows the main teachers that are involved in the series. It shows a snapshot and then goes back to showing the children.

Towards the end of the titles, it shows the tables which the children are sitting around come together to come up with the title of “Waterloo Road”. It is very cleverly done.

This is the final shot of the titles. This is another advertisement for the drama.

WATERLOO ROAD - TRAILERS

I then decided to research into the actual trailers for Waterloo Road. I decided to look at one particular trailer in particular. I took screen shots of the different narratives that are involved in the trailer. As it only lasts around 21 seconds, there aren’t that many.

The start of the trailer doesn’t show the waterloo road titles, it jumps straight into the first narrative. This narrative is on the head teacher returning to his school after being ran over. The audience is un-aware of that. That is why it is such a shock to the audience and to the other characters on the screen.

In to the next narrative, it is about a group of young people who have come to the school and are causing mayhem. The majority of the clip is about them. It targets different narratives of a drama/soap.

The final one is about the dinner ladies. They have been broken into and need to find the culprits, but it doesn’t seem to be hard because of the new gang in the school.

Through out the trailer, the BBC logo features. This means that Waterloo Road are advertising the BBC as well as you know what channel the programme is on.
