Newell, Mrs Gowan and Mr Geary for being on 24 hour duty last week. I’m sure all the parents appreciated you leaving your loved ones and putting your life on hold so the boys and girls could have this experience.Cross Country Carnival

Congratulations boys and girls for your participation on Monday. We have some great runners at our school. Special congratulations to Mr Sallustio for coordinating another very smooth carnival. Thank you all staff for your team effort also. It was great that many parents could come along and watch their children.Circus

The excitement at WPS today has been at fever pitch. I was relieved when they didn’t unload any lions or elephants. The children loved the performance this morning. Thank you Mrs Moore for coordinating this.

Teddy Bears Picnic

Kindergarten children and their teachers had a great day last Friday. The children had a beary fun day!WOOSH Vacation Care – Change of venueDue to work commencing on Block 4 over this holiday period we are moving the P&C WOOSH facility to the building that faces Campbell Street for the second week of the holidays eg. 23, 24 and 26 April. Parents may use the semi-circle driveway to drop off and collect their children. Please do not use the entrance on Waugh Street, for your safety.Bronze AssemblyWe will have our Bronze assemblies in Week 2. Parents should receive an invitation on Tuesday 30 April if their child is receiving an award. Please note children may earn their Bronze at the end of Week 1 so these students obviously would receive a late invitation. The times are the usual assembly days and times. Parents are most welcome to attend. School UniformThank you to all parents for your support with our school uniform and hats. Visitors to our school have commented on how good our students look. Our children take pride in being part of our team and wearing our school uniform with pride. It is now quite obvious the only children not wearing the correct hats are those who act out and are seeking negative attention.

Australian Government assistance for National Capital ExcursionYear 6 students from our school have recently returned from an educational tour of the national capital. While on this tour they participated in a variety of educational programmes focused on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy as well as scientific and sporting activities. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit their National Capital as part of their civics and citizenship education. To assist in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $30.00 per eligible student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) programme toward the travel expenses incurred. This contribution is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion. We would like to thank the Australian Government for their support of this program. Some of the activities enjoyed by the students included Questacon, New Parliament House, Old Parliament House, Institute of Sport, Australian War Memorial, Dinosaur Museum, the Botanical Gardens, Film and Sound Archives, CSIRO and the Deep Space Telecommunications Centre.Students who attended were a credit to their school showing outstanding co-operation and behaviour at all the venues we visited. They thoroughly enjoyed the activities and gained a vast array of knowledge about our democratic system, our national capital and a plethora of other exciting topics.Sharon Gowan - Year 6 Excursion OrganisingTeacher
