The news, reports and predictions are very scary. On behalf of the entire staff at Wauchope Public School I want to wish every one of our students and their extended families all the very best as we do what we can to get through this unbelievable period in history. None of us have ever experienced anything like this and together we are wading our way through and hoping we can all get through. We are all in this together. We want to keep Wauchope free from this virus for as long as possible. I thank everyone for taking our country’s leaders and the medical experts’ advice to isolate your families as much as possible. Until directed, our school will stay open to cater for those parents who are essential workers so you can continue providing for our community. You are all legends! The staff at WPS also have families and personal health conditions to consider during this time and we are so grateful to our community for, where possible, keeping your children at home. I would like to congratulate and thank everyone at our school for how they have banded together to support our students and families. We have an amazing staff at WPS and I’m massively proud of what they have been, are and will be doing. One-week work packs have been put together and distributed. Staff have been working on three-week packs that will be posted tomorrow to the address we have on record. I’m sure you can appreciate creating 665 envelopes of work has been a large task. If you have moved recently and have not notified the school please contact the front office ASAP. We have updated our online subscriptions to a variety of online resources that parents may access for their children such as Mathletics, Bug Club, World Book etc. These links will be included in a letter within each pack. We may even pop in some treats in each envelope to put a smile on our students’ faces. I do want to point out to parents that the students don’t have to work six-hour days. Just a couple of hours each day is plenty combined with household activities that can be promoted and encouraged. For example, try to keep your children active with games in the back yard, start a garden, do some cookingeach day, play board games and read, read, read. Please don’t worry too much about getting through all the work. We are all worried, stressed and concerned about what is happening. This stress and anxiety will rub off on our students. We need to ensure everyone’s wellbeing is okay.PSSA SportWe have just been notified that all PSSA sport including knockouts and carnivals have been cancelled for this year.

Facebook VideosAnother idea to keep our families smiling during this time is every couple of days we will put a video on Facebook of each class walking into their new classroom in Block 21. I got to witness most classes entering these wonderful new learning spaces and the children were extremely excited. We hope you enjoy them.CleanersI want to acknowledge the work our cleaners are doing at present. They have had their hours increased to ensure we have clean learning spaces. With limited student numbers we are only using the same spaces each day so all our cleaning resources are being put into those rooms.

Mr Cameron Osborne

SnapshotsWe have made the decision not to send home this one-page report on students’ attitude and effort as it’s not appropriate at this time. NAPLANAs widely publicised in the press the 2020 NAPLAN assessments will not go ahead for students in Years 3 and 5. Teddy Bear HuntThis is a nice idea and especially since our Kindergarten students have missed their Teddy Bears’ Picnic, it could produce a few smiles. You can do this within your house or near a window for others to drive past or walk with an adult if you decide that is appropriate.
