Dear Parents, Students and Friends of Ursula Frayne Catholic College,
THE FRAYNE FAMILY
The community of Frayne aspires to be an extension of your family. We know that it is vitally important for all students to have a sense of connec on and belonging as they engage in the ebb and flow of college life. It is for this reason that the pastoral care of your son or daughter whilst in our care is our priority. Students who are se led and feel safe can engage fully in the broad curriculum opportuni es a College like Frayne can provide. If you are concerned about your son or daughter, please ensure that you contact their Class or Homeroom teacher.
The provision of diverse opportuni es for our students enables like‐minded students to come together. Last Friday evening our College hosted our Language Expo which was a ended by more than 500 people. It was great to see so many of our young language learners from the Junior School suppor ng this event. Italian and Japanese are the two languages we offer at Ursula Frayne.

From the Vice Principal cont... This week our Senior School girls took out the netball championship for the ACC (Associated Catholic Colleges). This is the third year in a row our girls have won this com‐pe on and it was a great joy to receive a text on Tuesday a ernoon from our netball Coach, Miss Vince, sharing this achievement. All the students played excep onally on the day, however the umpires noted Year 10 student, Charisse Rond, the most valuable player on the court. The big empty rectangle on the upper grassed area of the Balmoral Campus is not going to be a swimming pool! Despite a fair bit of water being in that space over the last few weeks, we are preparing to build a Warrior course for our young enthusiasts to enjoy. Whilst we had hoped construc on would be underway by this me, there have been delays with building materials due to the lockdown on the east coast. The Catholic Performing Arts programme is underway and during the next month we will see students performing in the visual arts, music, and dance from all year groups across the College. Some performances are solo, and others are group entries. On Wednesday night the students in our dance programme performed at the Perth Conven on and Exhibi on Centre as part of this programme. Their performances were powerfully entertaining. This is a fabulous performance opportunity for all our rising stars, and I commend every student involved for their courage in ge ng on the stage.
Last night our Year 10s celebrated the finale of 5 weeks of dancing lessons with a dinner dance in the College gymnasium. The development over the last 5 weeks in skill and confidence of our Year 10 students has been significant. The awkward first lesson to the proficiency of their last was celebrated with great music, food, and dance. This programme supports our young men and women in understanding how to have respec ul rela onships.
Next Wednesday evening we begin our first phase of transi on for our Year 7 students of 2022. The focus for this evening is to partner with families in suppor ng these students as they make the change from primary to secondary. It is a very exci ng step for both parents and students, and the staff of Ursula Frayne are skilled at providing the best founda‐ons for success in this new environment. It is normal for children to feel overwhelmed! Journey with your son or daughter on this exci ng
transi on and allow them to control the next step in their educa onal pathway. The safety and wellbeing of our students is our priority. Thank you for driving cau ously around the two campuses. Children are unpredicta‐ble and your care in looking out for them is greatly appreciated by all of us. If you see our staff on duty, give them a wave and a smile. Chaplain’s Reflection MARY, QUEEN OF HEAVEN
The feast of Mary Queen of Heaven falls on 22 August, one week a er the Solemn Feast of Mary's Assump on. This feast was ins tuted by Pope Pius XII in 1954 because: "From the earliest ages of the Catholic Church, a Chris an people, whether in me of triumph or more espe‐cially in me of crisis, has addressed prayers of pe on and hymns of praise and venera on to the Queen of Heaven. Never has that hope wavered, which they placed in the Mother of the Divine King, Jesus Christ; nor has that faith ever failed by which we are taught that Mary, the Virgin Mother of God, reigns with a mother's solicitude over the en re world, just as she is crowned in heavenly blessedness with the glory of a Queen". Mary's Queenship is a consequence of being in union with her son in heaven and in communion with God. This tle sheds light on her important intercessory role in Chris an life. From heaven, she par cipates in God's love for the world. She watches over us, her children; who turn to her in prayer to thank her or to ask for her maternal protec on and her heavenly assistance. Honouring Mary as Queen does not take anything away from Christ's glory, but rather, we praise him even more by recognising the great work God has done in her and through her. Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said that devo on to Mary is an important element of our Chris an spiritual life, and he encour‐ages us to pray to her: “Gazing upon her, let us imitate her faith, her full openness to God's plan of love, her generous welcoming of Jesus. Junior School News YEAR 5 MERCY LEADERSHIP EXCURSION
On Monday and Tuesday of last week, the Year 5 classes a ended Mercy Leadership Days. To simu‐late Mother Ursula Frayne’s journey by boat, the students arrived in Perth by ferry, then walked up to St Mary’s Cathedral. On the way, Mr Dalton pointed out landmarks such as the plaque in the ground bearing Ursula Frayne’s name and the house in which she and her sisters stayed when they first arrived in the new colony in 1846. The day con nued with a tour of the pro‐cathedral, St Mary’s Cathedral and the convent at Mercedes college. A ending midday Mass at the cathedral was also a highlight. The students then caught the train back to the Duncan Campus where Ms Quin completed the day with a visit to the College Chapel and the Mercy garden. The Year 5s had a wonderful day discovering more about the heritage of the College and the Mercy sisters. Grateful thanks to Ms Quin and Mr Dalton for organising an enjoyable and informa ve event. On Thursday 12 August, Ursula Frayne took students from the Interschool Cross Country team to compete at the WA State Cross Country Championships. This event had over 40 different schools from all around WA. We finished a credible 21st All of the races had over more than 250 compe tors and most of our students finished in the top half. We also had some excep onal runners who finished in the top 50.
