    Visible Learning Foundation Day

    Over three hundred and fify staff romWest Gippsland Schools (including staff

    rom Warragul North Primary School)attended the Visible Learning FoundationDay held at Lardner Park yesterday,uesday 22nd April, 2014.

    Te proessional learning undertakencentred on John Hatties internationallyacclaimed research. Visible Learningexplores what really works in educationbased on fifeen years o research andmany millions o students.

    Tis represents the largest ever evidence-based research into what actually works inschools to improve learning.

    Te presentation included Debra Masters,the Director o Visible Learning in NewZealand; Helen Butler, a very experiencededucational coach and anya McGowanwho has had extensive experience as acurriculum advisor. Tis highly valuablelearning experience certainly gave allWarragul North Primary School staff aocus or erm wo.Continued on page 2.

    Working Bee

    On a beautiul Autumn morning onSunday 30th March, a willing band oworkers arrived or the working beeorganised by our Building and GroundsSub-Committee o School Council.

    Much was achieved including digging,weeding, pruning and resh soil wasplaced in the vegetable garden. Tepea gravel in the play equipment areaswas also raked and levelled.

    At 1.00pm the working bee concludedwith a sausage sizzle cooked by ourSchool Council President, Chris Smith.Te sausages were generously donatedby Morland Meats o Warragul andChris cooked them to perection.

    Many thanks to members o theKersten, Badari, urner, Cahill,

    Smith, Madden, Magyar, Spragg,Wahid, Straatman, Aitken,Weeks amilies, and Miss Collinsor their hard work.

    Well done to Brett Kersten ororganising such a successulworking bee. It was Bretts firstas convenor o the Building andGrounds Committee.

    SCHOOL

    HOURS CAREWelcome back to OSHC. We hopeeveryone enjoyed the holidaysand now we look orward to agreat erm wo with a programplanned to keep the children busyand happy.

    OSHC activities during the last twoweeks o erm One were centred onHarmony Day and Easter. Children

    decorated orange coloured handshapes or Harmony Day with thesenow displayed on our glass door asa visual security measure. Easterbased activities included colouringand craf.

    OSHC is available on a permanentor casual basis. Enrolment ormsare available rom the school officeor rom OSHC. A waiting list isheld i a session is already ully

    booked. It is important that theschool office or OSHC is notified iyour child is not going to attend asession they have been booked inor as that place can then be usedor a casual booking. Failure tocancel will incur a charge.

    C.F.A. DayJunior School Council organised the Code Red or C.F.A. day which was held onWednesday 2nd April. Te children were very excited to see a fire truck (completewith three firemen) parked outside the gym when they arrived at school. Ourschool certainly looked very different with many o the children dressed in red orthe day.

    Te gold coin donations made a 9.5 metre long coin trail and a total amount o$662.30 was raised or the Warragul C.F.A.

    Many thanks to our Junior School Council or organising this very worthwhile

    undraiser. A big thank you to the firemen, Steve Venville, Brian Dalrymple andim Moss, or taking the time to come to Warragul North Primary School withtheir fire truck to show their support or Code Red or C.F.A. Day.

    Te Magical World

    Of Crazy ScienceOn Friday 21st March the children at Warragul North PrimarySchool learnt about Te Magical World o Crazy Science.Richard Scholes entertained the children with his excitingexperiments and excellent all round perormance.

    When asked What was the best thing about the Crazy ScienceShow? childrens responses included:

    eating a rainbow!

    What does that mean?

    It means we were eating ood rom

    the ruit and vegetable group. We

    arranged the ood in the colours o

    the rainbow.

    Lots o children tried different ood,

    such as star ruit and graperuit.

    We now know you should eat oodrom each ood group every day.

    erm wo Art or Year Five and Six students will begin

    with work on the Gatescape Project using old records and

    CD's as a base to create a wool and mosaic creation!!

    Last year we had Monet in May, this year we will have

    Aztecs in April. Aztec Art is currently on exhibition

    in Melbourne at the Melbourne Museum. We are also

    working on contrasting colours; warm and cool colours

    and beginning our collage work.

    I still need the ollowing items or the art room:

    Ice cream container lids Old records or CDs

    Wool

    Cardboard e.g. squares

    Buttons

    Old stockings or tights

    I you have any o these items at home that you no longer need,

    please drop them off at the art room or the school office.

    the Whole FamilyTe Mathematics Committee thanks all the students

    who took the time to enter our first two competitions.

    Of Te Year AwardAs part of our commitment to the ongoing

    safety of students, School Crossings

    Victoria, together with Victorian Shire

    Councils is looking for the Supervisor of

    the Year 2014/2015.

    Nominations are open now and close onFriday 2nd May 2014 and nomination forms

    There are unique challenges for all members of step families. Couples in step

    families may be interested in an upcoming six week program by the Family

    Mediation Centre.
