Task 1 Pre-ProductionIn this task we have to create a Documentary, as part of Production Management Project (Unit 4) & Factual Programme Production. Where we have to research, plan, produce and review factual film product. I have decided that I will do two documentaries, this will include Foyle Hospice Christmas video and Halloween Festival in Derry. My idea is telling the audience about Halloween and events that happened in Derry, in 2016. I will also show the viewer some photos and I will also talk about them. I will also show the viewer some of my footage and I will also do a voice over as well.

Intended aimHalloween, Derry The reason why I wanted to do this documentary, it’s because as I went into Derry over Halloween break and I have taken photos and video as well. I am looking forward into creating this documentary because I want to show the viewer my photos and video.

Foyle Hospices videoI want to do this documentary because I want to document this important event, in my video I also want to highlight that the Foyle Hospices is doing this for charity. I also want to highlight that the people who donated to Foyle Hospices, they would give some of their funds to other charity’s, this will include Children in Cross Fire, Foyle Hospices, Concern Worldwide, Mayor’s Charity etc. The Foyle Hospices are going to attempt to break the world record as well. There will also be an interview in my video as well.

Copyright As my team would be filming the event (Christmas Jumpers Event) I don’t need to worry about copyright issues. I am also doing this project for education purpose and I am not getting paid. The UK Government, website highlights that people can use other people’s work for education purpose. I will also provide a link to the Government website. I will also credit the artist in the video as well. Genres About the videosBoth of the documentaries will be infotainment as I will be talking about Foyle Hospices, Christmas jumper video and Halloween. For the Foyle Hospices project I will have to pitch my idea to students, in the presentation I will tell the students about the project. Research Process – Crew T-shirts I researched the internet for competitive prices for Tee-shirts for the film crew and see what companies that put logos on T-shirts. I found a company called “Insignia Embroidery” that does that. This is being to see what companies that prints onto T-shirts cheaper.

Research Project –Christmas Single video(Pitch from Clients)My second project is client centred from the Foyle Hospices, this time I will be working on a Christmas Video project. I had to research into what the project is about. See Pitch from Client Donall Henderson – Chief Executive and Michelle Mc Ginn Marketing & Education Officer. I was crew of the Christmas Single video project for Cutaways. My major project - Foyle Hospices are doing another charity event, where they are trying to break the world record. According to Foyle Hospices the current record is 3,473 people and they want to beat it, by over 5,000 people, or around that number. The people who is taken part will be wearing Christmas jumpers. There will also be other charities there such as Children in Crossfire, Concern Worldwide, Foyle Hospices etc. The funds that people donated will go towards them (Foyle Hospices) and other charities. I intend to make this project as a Director and Producer. I will also be working with film crew.

Planning As I will be going to the Foyle Hospice that I am doing an interview with someone. I have also provided some questions that I am going to ask them, this will help me to get a clear idea what is happing that day.

I will also provide the emails that I got from my teacher (Faustina Starrett) and my client Patti Holly who works at the Foyle Hospices. I will also provide a link to my weebily, where I will have a document that shows you an email that was sent by Patti Holly to me. The email highlights that was going to be event in the Guildhall, where people who were representing the different charities, this will include Children crossfire, Concern Worldwide, Foyle Hospices etc. But when went to the Guildhall, but no one was there. Monitoring progressIt’s my responsibility to make sure that all of the tasks are been done, this will include pitch, meetings, video and editing. I also have to make sure that everyone knows what they are doing.

Solving problems - Contingency Plans As the event is taking place on Sunday and we need cameras and tripods, the problem is we need some where to store them, overnight. I did an interview with someone who works at the Foyle Hospices, but when I was looking at the footage I discovered that there were

audio problems. So I did an interview with another person who works at the Foyle Hospices.

I will also need to get permission to use Visit Derry if camera equipment needs to be stored – their building is looking over the waterloo square. In one of my locations for was going to Foyle Hospices building, I went to Waterloo Square and I looked at the windows. I decided that I won’t use the location to film our video.

Booking equipment As we will be filming our video for the Foyle Hospices Project in Waterloo square, I also have to book cameras and triodes from the college.

I also had to get two volunteers, to film the interview. I also asked two volunteers to film the interview because there were two cameras there.

Foyle Hospices, Christmas jumperWhen the film crew has given me all of their footage from the Christmas Jumpers event. I will have to look at the footage and deicide which footage to use. At the start of the video I put text on screen (introduction) this was to explain to the viewer what the video is about. I will also highlight that the Christmas jumper event is also a charity event.

Script for HalloweenIn this video, I’m going to talk Halloween, which it happened in Derry. In this video I’m going to show you photos and video. I decided that I will go to Waterloo square and Guildhall square, I thought the market looked really nice, at night the there was a lot of people there as well. They also had people dressed up as Mickey Mouse and Miss Mouse, I also had the opportunity to take photos of them as well. When I was walking around the market I noticed that was a medieval knight statue standing there, so I went over and I took photos of the statue. As I was taking photos, his hand moved and I pure jumped, little did I know that it was an actual person dressed up as a medieval knight. I also noticed that they had decorated the Peace Garden where they had cobwebs around the Pace Garden. They also had spiders all around the peace garden and human and animal skeletons there as well. They had a blown-up Halloween pumpkin which I was really surprised, at night their lights would glow. I also went to the craft village where they had decorated the village, where they had human skeletons all around the village. I noticed that some of them had some strange things around them, so I asked a person that had worked on them and he told me that the aliens put them there and that’s where they dead. I also went up to St Columbus Cathedral where they had alien plants and they looked cool, here is some photos. I decided that I will go in the next day, they had two people dressed up as birds I also got the opportunity to take video of them as well. I’m also glad that they brought back The Return of Saurus. I also had the opportunity to take photos of them and video as well, here the video. I got to see them walking around the guildhall and waterloo square, two kids had swords trying to fight them off, I thought it was funny, at night their eyes would glow. I enjoyed seeing different things that was used in the city such as Spark, I thought they were really funny, here is video of them. Script for Foyle Hospices Hello in this documentary, I want to talk about Foyle Hospices, Christmas Jumper event, this event was also try to break The Guinness World Record. To tell you more about The Christmas Jumpers event, I also did an Interview with who works at Foyle Hospices, here is the interview. (Interview) Here is a list of the charities that The Foyle Hospices was working with, this will include Children in Crossfire, Concern Worldwide, Mayors Charities and Muscular Dystrophy. As people donated funds towards this event, all of the funds will towards those charities. The event was held in Derry on Sunday 18th December, 2016. Here is some footage from that day. (video) To see the full video I have provide a link in the description. When I was in Derry, filming the event, I was glad to see that people from different age groups took part in this event. As the current record was held in USA, where they got 3,473 people at the event. Sadly, we didn’t beat the world record as we only got 2,484 people at the Christmas Jumper event.

Legal and ethical considerationsOfcom As I am creating documentary for TV, there is regulations that I must obey and beware of. The Communication Act 2003 created Ofcom, where they are overseeing every UK commercial TV shows. They make sure that people who are watching TV get the best out of the service. They set out a set of rules where broadcasters have to obey by. Such as Misleading, Harm, offence, religion, fairness etc. One of their rules is Watershed. If a broadcaster broke one of their rules, then Ofcom may sanction them from their employers. Ofcom gives viewers an opportunity to complain about a TV show that they are not happy with. Filming in public I went to The Derry City Council where I had a meeting with Anne Marie Gallagher. The meeting was to make sure that the Derry City

Council was aware that we will be filming at the Christmas video event. She also gives me four (media) vests to wear on that day.

Proposal, Foyle HospicesI also had to create a presentation for the Foyle Hospices project, where I had to pitch my project to students in the college. Style for Halloween, and Foyle Hospices video As I did a documentary, last year where I talked about my Facebook page. I am planning to do those documentary the same way, the background will have a TV studio as wall. When I am talking about an event I will show the viewer some photos and video as well. The background looks like that I am in a TV studio; However, the background is a green screen. I am also planning to use the same technique for my Foyle Hospices video as well.

Target audience for Halloween Documentary The target audience for this documentary will be both for male and female, their age will be between teenager- adults.

Foyle Hospices The Target audience is people who is interested in donating to charity, Their age group will between teenagers-adults.

Budget for the Foyle HospiceAs I am working on two documentaries’ and I will need to book equipment such as cameras and tripods, I will need to plan out my budget and decide where the money is going towards. I will also provide a document where it highlights the items costs and for how long.
