ABOUT US: The Macular Disease Foundation Australia (MDFA) is the national charity– currently with 14 staff. Its purpose is to reduce the incidence and impact of macular disease – the leading cause of legal blindness and severe vision loss in Australia. MDFA has launched its new Strategic Plan 2018-21 to expand its reach to benefit more Australians living with or at risk of eye diseases that affect the macula.
POSITION STATEMENT: Under the direction of the Director of Marketing & Fundraising (DMF), this position is responsible for increasing the number and value of individual donations and bequests through a newly established direct marketing program. In additional, the Fundraising Manager will work with DMF and the CEO to nurture major gifts from individuals, corporations, Trusts and Foundations and the wider community.
Key Responsibilities, Functions and KPIs:

1. Generate & diversify fundraising income
Develop, implement and manage fundraising activities to support organisational growth. These include:
- Direct marketing appeals- Building bequest pipelines- Identify and developing
submissions for funding
Financial targets and donor growth is achieved.
2. Manage CRM and data integrity
Work with DMF and external providers of RE NXT Data accuracy and integrity
Develop CRM processes and procedures for MDFA
3. Manage suppliers to support fundraising
Identify and manage external providers. Review and assess output as required.
Appeals are to budget and deadline
4. Reporting Assist with accurate and timely analysis of the giving program to aid acquisition, retention and delinquency decisions.
Monthly reports (or otherwise requested) on donor output.
5. Champion the fundraising program internally and externally.
Lead the newly established fundraising program and work with all aspects of MDFA to connect fundraising opportunities.
MDFA staff and Board are informed and engaged with all aspects of fundraising income generation.
Essential requirements
Fundraising A strong track record of building, implementing, managing and delivering outcomes
through successful fundraising strategies, including end to end Direct Marketing. Execution of a fundraising strategy across key revenue streams including corporate,
individual giving, planned giving through bequests, major philanthropic gift and grant funding.
Managing and growing annual appeals revenue. Identifying and engaging with prospective donors.
Communication Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and experience in grant writing. The ability to prepare grants and submissions Have analytical skills and the ability to assimilate health information into a succinct lay
summary. Experience in, and appreciation for, customer service or account management
Data Management
Skills in managing and working with data, NFP databases and CRM tools such as Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge NXT.
Desirable requirements At least 5 years’ experience in a similar position. University degree qualifications or equivalent relevant professional experience. Positive record of measureable outcomes in fundraising Reliable and trustworthy service to donors, customers and/or colleagues. Ability to manage fundraising budgets, targets and KPIs. Demonstrated results working with key team members and stakeholders, both internal
and external, contributing to improved outcomes and trusted relationships in complex environments.
