Keywords: three physiological factors are discussed here which the author believes contributes to the success of these mites, two-spotted spider mite Tetranychus urticae, carmine spider mite T. cinnabarinus. These are: 1) male mating behavior and the role of farnesol and nerolidol as sex attractants, 2) gonadotropic effect of farnesol, and 3) utilization of farnesol as a precursor for the synthesis of other chemicals such as sterols and juvenile hormone, mite physiology
