An acolyte assists in worship by carrying aprocessional cross, lighting candles, holding candles or "torches", assisting adeaconorpriestset up and clean up at thealtar, swinging a censer or thuribleor carrying the incense boat, handing the offering plates to ushers, and many other tasks as seen fit by the priest or acolyte warden. Being an acolyte is a ministry of service to God at the altar. We welcome anyone from fourth grade and above to serve.

Altar Guild -Ron McKenzie

407-574-8739 email: [email protected]

The Altar Guild is a volunteer group of the parish whose ministry is to care for the altar, vestments, vessels, and altar linens of the parish. Altar Guild members prepare the sanctuary for services, and clean up afterwards. . The Altar Guild is a ministry, a calling. Quietly, devotedly, reverently, reliably the members prepare the sanctuary for us, as we worship the Risen Christ.

A/V & Overheads - Lewis Ashenheim

407-876-0119 email: [email protected]

Our A/V ministry is an important part of our worship and hospitality to those who are new to Ascension. Our use of media helps those who are new to be able to follow the liturgy with more comfort, which in turn allows them to feel part of our community in a more profound way. If you can click a mouse and follow the order of service, you can be part of this vital ministry.

Children Rev.Matt Ainesly

407-876-3480 email: [email protected]

Our childrens ministry is an important focus at the Church of the Ascension. Raising our children to know God and the history of our church equips them to walk in the knowledge of love of God all their days. Our childrens ministry spans nursery to teens and each subset is given special attention to their age appropriate needs. We strive to be a safe place for families while at the same time creating an environment of fun that will enrich our childrens live.

Coffee Hour - Leane Roach

407-370-6950 email: [email protected]

Our Coffee hour ministry is another ministry of hospitality. Our time between our services gives us a chance to get to know one another better. We desire to welcome people to Ascension as we would our own homes, and offering light snacks and coffee is a great way to make people feel welcomed and appreciated.

Daughters of the King -Kathie McDaniel

407-446-8028 email: [email protected]

Daughters of the King are women and girls between the ages of seven and one hundred and seven who desire a closer walk with the Lord. We are Christian women, both lay and ordained, who are strengthened through the discipline of a Rule of Life, and supported through the companionship of our sisters. The Chapter at Ascension is named for Esther.

Kitchen Team - Walt & Lynda Dickerson 407-601-4475 email: [email protected]

Like your home, the kitchen is often the center of activity in a church. And like your home, it often needs looking after and kept in order. This ministry is foundational to all other hospitality in our church and could always use a helpful hand so that the kitchen stays in order and prepared for the next fun gathering!

Lectors & LEMs - Becky Chapman

407384-7748 email: [email protected]

The word liturgy means work of the people. This assumes that lay people play a role in the activity of our worship services. There is no better place to contribute than to be a lector or Lay Eucharistic Minister (L.E.M.) A lector aids in reading scripture during the service. A LEM helps by serving the chalice and other duties during the service. In this way, clergy and lay people work together to honor God and serve His people.

LEVs & Hospital Visitation - Terrell Welch

407-944-4195 email: [email protected]

When people find themselves sick at home or in the hospital, part of our pastoral care at Ascension means bringing them Holy Eucharist. Home and hospital visitations are an important part of caring for one another and lay people play an important part in that. A Lay Eucharistic Visitor (L.E.V.) does just that as they assist the clergy in this important ministry of care and prayer.

Newcomers Elaine Shanks

407-423-2998 email: [email protected]

Have you ever visited a church and not been acknowledged, let alone made to feel welcome? We have vowed for that never to happen at Ascension! Because of this, our Newcomer ministry has become a corner stone of Gods hospitality and grace to those who are seeking a new church home. Our Newcomers ministry oversees our Greeters and Ascension 101 ministries as they work hand-in-hand to help those who are new to Ascension find their place and make new friends in Christ.

Greeters -Stephanie Soper

443-465-8571 email: [email protected]

As part of our Newcomer ministry, our Greeters are charged with the honor of welcoming people who visit Ascension and help them in whatever means are needed to make them feel comfortable. Our greeters are gifted with perpetual smiles and a heart for those who are seeking a new church home. It is through this ministry that Christ invites all to a loving knowledge of Him at Ascension.

Ascension- 101 - Maureen Reenie Frush

407-719-0405 email: [email protected]

Membership expectations are different between churches and denominations. Ascension 101 is an important step for those who wish to become full members of our community. This four-week class covers topics pertaining to Christianity in general, the history of the Episcopal/Anglican Church, the history of Ascension and an introduction to the various ministries and opportunities for spiritual growth which take place here. Each class begins with a great lunch, and then a time of teaching and small group discussions.

Ushers - Steve Hawn

407-443-8600 email: [email protected]

Working hand-in-glove with our Newcomers ministry, our ushers take care of the liturgical side of Ascensions hospitality. Ushers welcome people into the church and help with the logistics of the flow of the service. This ministry is not just about passing the plate, they have a heart for the worship of our Lord and doing whatever it takes to make parishioners new and seasoned to feel cared for.

Music Minister -Bob Johnson

407-851-7377 email: [email protected]

From the beginning of the Christian age, music has accompanied worship. We are blessed to have a music ministry that seeks to honor God with our songs of praise with both traditional hymns and contemporary music. Ascension offers opportunities for year-round commitment or seasonal based on your ability to serve. We are always looking for people who wish to make a joyful noise to our Lord.

Prayer Ministry- Deacon Debby Buechner

As one might expect, prayer is an integral part of the spiritual life. We experience this through community worship, intercessory prayer, and personal prayer for those who have specific needs for themselves or others. Our prayer team seeks to serve those who desire personal prayer during our worship services. If you have a heart for others and a desire to serve God by praying with and for others, this may be the ministry for you.

Outreach & Evangelism - Jim Waters

321-217-7089 email: [email protected]

The Great Commission calls Christians to go into the world and share the Good News of Jesus Christ! We do this through our Outreach and Evangelism ministry. Ascension desires to serve the people of God both inside and outside of our parish. Inside the parish we offer pastoral care in many forms. Outside, we support our local homeless shelter by providing a meal once a month. We also wish to extend a hand of invitation to those who dont have a church home or have even been exposed to a life in Christ. This is a ministry that can use anyone who has a heart for Jesus.
