PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
As we make our final preparations for the 20-21 school year to begin on Wednesday, there are a number of emo-
tions running through my mind. Like many of you, sadness, anxiety, and nervousness are a few, but excitement
and hope over what the new year brings help guide the way.
Please know that the ARHS staff has been hard at work this past month prepping for our school year to begin. Our
goal is to provide the same high quality education that we have offered for years in the new 3-period Quarter Distance
Learning.
Students, parents, and teachers all play a vital role in helping students reach their greatest potential. Please encour-
age your student to take advantage of the many opportunities available to them here at ARHS. Our district and school
webpages put school information at your fingertips. You can find out about clubs, activities, athletics, and much more.
The sites are continuously updated (see some links at the end of this newsletter). These can keep you informed about
things that are going on in our building and community. Also through Family Access, you have the ability to check
attendance and grades. With these communication tools we can work together to ensure the success of your child.
Once again, welcome back! Let’s work together to make this a great year at Auburn Riverside! As in High School
Musical, “We are all in this together,” so please keep close communications with the school house and teachers. To-
gether, we can help make all of our students successful.
~ David Halford, Principal
WELCOME FRESHMEN
ARHS loves our Freshmen! Freshmen will receive a phone call from their Raven Crew leader
(upper class student leaders) at the main phone number listed in Skyward on Mon., Sept. 7 between
6pm and 8pm. Their Raven Crew leader is someone they will be able to check in with through-
out their Freshman year to ask questions, learn more about high school life, etc. Freshmen will “meet” their Raven
Crew Leader on Sept. 8 from 10am—12pm via Google Meet. Be sure to check your school email for a “Meet
Link” for that morning. Don’t forget to have your Chromebook charged and be ready to meet your Raven Crew Lead-
ers! Welcome Home new Ravens, we are happy you are here!
CHROMEBOOK REPAIR
Starting MONDAY, 9/14/20
Main Office Entrance from 7:30—9:30am and 11:00am—12:00pm.
If you are having any problems and cannot make these times, please email [email protected]
PSAT/NMSQT & SAT TESTING CANCELED
The district has canceled the October 14 College Board testing with safety in mind. The district is looking into future dates that the College Board can provide for our students.
We are pleased to welcome all the new students and the class of 2024 to Auburn Riverside!
We would also like to welcome the following new staff members: Emily Denney, ELL; Austin Eibel, Lan-
guage Arts; Bianca Flynn, Spanish; Greg Herd, Dean of Students & Health; Niko Horiuchi, Language Arts; Lisa
Newhouse, Special Education; Katerina Pullen, Math; David Zere, Social Studies & 11th Flight.
Position Changes: Kyle Jones, Athletic Director; Raeshelle Wilson, DECA
ATTENDANCE OFFICE REMINDERS
Please remember that attendance is going to be taken for each class period and students are expected to attend class each day. If your student
is not going to be able to attend for some reason that day, please have them reach out and work with their teacher to get materials for the day
to complete their work. Please remember to excuse your student each time an absence occurs. You may reach the Attendance Office voicemail
24 hours a day at 253-804-5165. For more information regarding perfect attendance requirements, attendance office procedures and more go
online to ARHS Website and click on Resources/Attendance tab or click here
AR TIME
ARHS has a 30-minute period in between the 1st and 2nd period of the school day. This is labelled on a student’s schedule as 8th period,
GEN408 HSBP. For the first four weeks of school, your student’s teacher for 8th period will be the same as his/her 1st period
teacher. This period will be used to orient students on a variety of school and state subjects (Ex: Student Handbook, Chrome-
book How To’s, HIV/AIDS presentation, High School and Beyond Planning, etc.). After Mid-tern 1 grades are posted on Oct. 7th, students will be assigned to
either an intervention support or enrichment support to match their individual needs based on the posted grades. More information about Intervention/Enrichment
assignments will be forthcoming.
HIV/AIDS
The annual HIV/AIDS presentation will be given to all students in September. Parents wishing to “opt out” their student from this, please click here to print the form. The form is available to be printed in five different languages (English, Marshallese, Russian, Spanish, and Ukrainian) Please fill it out and send to Auburn Riverside Main Office, 501 Oravetz Rd., Auburn, WA 98092. You may also scan and email the form to [email protected]
QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Q.: How can I pick up my Quarter 1 Textbook(s) if I missed the Modified Raven
Days?
A.: The Library will be able to assist students and parents Wednesday thru Friday from
11:30am—12:15pm, Sept. 9 to Sept. 18. The library is not open (and cannot be accessed through the
main entrance), the library staff will be able to check-out items from the library exit (windowless double door)
located at the back of the school in the courtyard in front of the bus zone (see pic to the right). If you
have any questions, please email Lisa Gallinatti at [email protected].
Q.: How will 3 periods allow students to still get their required credits?
A.: The 3 period Quarter system the Auburn School District has moved to for Distance Learning will still allow students to ear 6.0 credits per year.
Each quarter class will be worth 0.5 credits. Students will take a year-long class for 2 quarters, earning a total of 1.0 credit as they would have in a 2-semester
system. Each quarter a student will be able to earn a total 1.5 credits if they pass all 3 of their classes.
Q.: If my student has a CTE class, will supplies be provided? How will my student get them?
A.: For many CTE courses, teachers are ordering supplies and will be putting together kits of tools and materials for students to have at home to
assist in their learning. CTE teachers will communicate to their classes next week if they will have supplies to pick up. Not all supplies have been received yet,
so not all kits are ready. When the kits are ready they will be available to be picked up during our textbook pick up times from Sept. 9—18.
Q.: When will my student have their picture taken?
A.: Since we are not in the building we do not have the ability to have a picture day at this time. Should we return to “in building classes” we will set
up a day to have student pictures taken.
