ART NewsShrek the Musical

What an incredible journey this year’s production has been. Words simply can’t describe the feeling of see-ing 65 of our students come together to work both on and off stage and present to a collective audience of nearly 1,350 people across seven shows, the incredible show that is Shrek the Music.

Congratulations to all of our students who were in-volved. Thank you to the staff who gave up countless hours to bring this thing to life. And thank you to ev-eryone who came along to see the show, your support, claps, cheers and laughs were greatly appreciated!

Photos can never do live theatre justice, but I hope that this collection of photos can bring just a small sense of the show to you in this newsletter.

ART NewsCasey Schools on Stage

On Thursday 7th September, we had 33 of the cast from our Production of Shrek the Musical venture to Hillcrest Christian College to participate in the annu-al Schools on Stage Competition. This is an annual competition run by the City of Casey for secondary schools, to showcase their performing arts depart-ment and in particular, perform some of their items from their respective school productions. This was our first year participating in the event, and we took two songs from Shrek, I Know It’s Today and Freak Flag.

Students conducted themselves very well during rehearsals and pre-show. Costumes were put on and make up was applied. Before long, it was time for us to take to the stage. Our students did a stellar job in their two songs, singing beautifully and executing cho-

reography expertly. By the end of the night, judging was complete and we sat both on stage and in our waiting room anxiously awaiting results.

Very excitingly, we were awarded the ‘Peoples Choice’ award, which was judged using the most scientific of methods – loudness of audience cheer. So a very big thanks to all who came to support us. Then to add to our excitement, the judging panel also awarded us ‘Best Song’ for the night, for our rendition of I Know It’s Today, performed by Emily Felton (Year 8), Sienna Bucknell (Year 8) and Sarah Heitmann (Year 12).

A very large congratulations to all students, and a heartfelt thanks to the staff who were involved.

E.T Crew (Kambrya’s Environmental Team)

To the school community

Welcome to the third ET newsletter! Our new team, the ET Crew, have had a successful start this year. Come along to any of our meetings which are held every second Tuesday in W2. Join the team!

We would like to share with you our work so far, our goals, and suggest some useful tips.

Do you care about the environment? Please raise awareness by sharing this article with friends and family.

Our Goals for 2017

1. Resourcesmart schools is a system based on modules and Stars. We aim to achieve at least one star this year. Our main focus is on the Core module and Waste reduction.

2. Energy: Our aim is to reduce our energy consumption by a minimum of 5% per student. 3. Recycling: Batteries, paper and other recyclables are being collected at central points in

around the campus, including the library and later years block. 4. Waste reduction: Pine offcuts are collected and used/sold.

Current Achievements: As part of the school masterplan, the waste management brochure has been approved

by the school council. Recycling bins throughout the school are a huge success thanks to the Darrabi class! Students from year 10 environmental science have under gone study on the biodiversity

environmental state of Kambrya College.

Year 10 Studies: Kambrya’s Year 10 Environmental Science class assessed the biodiversity in Kambrya’s environment. The task was undertaken over six periods. The results showed that improvements are required to further drive our cause: Overall Kambrya ranks below average in its environmental state (49%, we should be

aiming above 75%). Kambrya scored high in having 25% of its grounds covered in understory vegetation. Kambrya has a 100% cover of organic litter in gardens. More than 5 logs and/ or rocks per hectare.

Goals to Achieve: Achieve a 75% or higher in Kambrya’s environment following the Biodiversity Quality

Assessment Guidelines. Act on the success of the waste management brochures approval so that the master plan

can succeed.

Tips for Parents:

Have students walk, bike, carpool, or ride the bus or public transportation. At home, turn down your thermostat 1-2 degrees in winter and up 1-2 degrees in

summer. Switch to low-energy lightbulbs, and get an energy audit from your local utility to conserve energy and reduce your bills.

Promote “green cleaning” at home and at school, use micro-fiber mops and cloths. Avoid PVC plastic for containers, cling-wrap, notebooks, pens, paperclips and other

office supplies, and other products. Avoid PVC or #3 on the product, often found next to the 3- arrow recycling symbol.

Purchase environmentally-friendly school and office supplies.

“Green Today, Greener Tomorrow”

- Our Motto

Come along to our meetings & join the ET Crew!

Sincerely, ET Crew
