#LivingWellWNY

Welcome! Welcome to the September Edition of the Western New York Healthy Communities

Coalition (WNYHCC)’s 7th #LivingWellWNY Social Media Guide.

This guide is for

those who want to help their clients, friends, and families learn about small lifestyle

changes that can have a big impact on their health and happiness.

About the Western New York Healthy Communities Coalition The WNYHCC is a network of people and organizations who are dedicated to creating a region that supports active living

and healthy eating. The WNYHCC offers capacity building to its organizational members through networking, professional

development, training and sharing best practices.

This guide is produced by organizers of the WNYHCC.

Why Social Media? Social media is a powerful tool for organizations to share information, while

advancing their goals and missions. In a world filled with an abundance of

misinformation, we believe in the importance of sharing accurate information.

Why should you consider social media? 72% of all Americans are on Facebook1

and evidence shows that Facebook is a major way people learn about health.

As organizations of WNY invest in the health and wellness of our region, we can use

Facebook to share important information and promote each other’s programs and

services.

In this guide you’ll find materials, including:

◄ Infographics on the benefits of eating more fruits and vegetables every day, including healthy recipes;

◄ Information on SNAP and the Double Up Food Bucks programs;

◄ A weekly calendar of sample Facebook posts with images and videos to share;

◄ Facts, tips, and local farmers markets to help you eat fresh produce and support our local farms.

How to Use This Guide 1. Browse through all the suggested posts early in the month and decide which ones fit well with your organization’s

mission and values.

2. If your organization already uses a content calendar, incorporate the selected suggested posts into your own

organizations content calendar by scheduling a day and time to post them. If your organization does not currently

use a content calendar, consider using this guide as a starting point for your social media posts.

3. The suggested posts in the #LivingWellWNY social media guide are already formatted for Facebook but can

easily be copied and pasted into a Twitter feed. Additionally, any of our prepared content can be used in an e-mail

or newsletter blast to your members.

58% of Americans with a

chronic disease receive

health information

through Facebook more

frequently than any other

online medium. 1

4. For Facebook posts, copy and paste the text and link for a suggested post onto your Facebook Page under

Create Post. The link will automatically put a relevant picture under your text. Feel free to keep that picture or

you can upload the suggested image by:

a. Right clicking on the suggested image and choose “Save as Picture” onto your location of choice. Then

go to your Facebook Page and click on Upload Photo/Video and retrieve it from the location you just

saved it under.

b. Although it does take an extra step to use the suggested graphic, it will have better recognition and

retention among community members if the same image is seen multiple times by various organizations.

5. We recommend sharing at least one of the suggested posts a week.

6. Whenever you have the chance to comment or respond to any of your followers’ comments, do so! Feel free to

tag a person or group who you think will be really interested in a post. Ask your followers a question in the

comment section of the post. All of these engagement tactics will only make the post more visible to more

people.

Make it even easier! Join our Facebook Group to receive these posts directly and share from our group:
