Homework
●We will come up with our class rules together during the first week of school.
●We use a variety of rewards throughout the year including shark fins and shark bites.
●We will earn Potato Head pieces for good class behavior. When Mr. or Ms. Potato Head is completed, we will earn a reward day such as Pajama Day, Stuffed Animal Day, orother ideas that the students will help plan.

positive behaviors!
Think Tank
● Students will have lunch at 11:40 each day.
● Students have the option to purchase lunch or bring lunch. If your child will be purchasing lunch, you can send in money or upload money to their account on the MSE website. Lunch is $3.05.
●A lunch calendar can be located on the MSE website.
Lunch
● Students will be able to have a snack in the mornings.
●We encourage the snack to be small and healthy such as carrot sticks, pretzels in a small bag, an apple, a cheese stick etc.
● Snack time will be limited to about 10 minutes so we will not have enough time to eat more than one small snack.
Snack
● We are a treat free school. Birthdays will be celebrated with songs, certificates, pencils, and fun! We will celebrate summer birthdays in June.
● Instead of providing treats, please consider visiting us as a guest reader, or coming for lunch with your child. We would also love a new book or piece of recess equipment dedicated in the birthday child’s honor. We are also permitted to pass out goodie bags with stickers, playdough, or other nonfood birthday goodies.
● Birthday party invitations may not be distributed in school unless there is an invitation for every student. Please make alternative arrangements outside of school if you do not plan to invite everyone.
Treat Free Policy
● Loudoun County Public Schools began the implementation of Project Based Learning in which students will solve authentic problems and make real world connections.
● We used this model last year and we will be using this model again in our classrooms this year to empower students to make meaningful contributions to the world by solving genuine challenging problems.
● Your help is requested to find ways to integrate parts of the community into our lessons. Please fill out the PBL parent information!
Project Based Learning (PBL)
● Moorefield Station is one (1) of three (3) Loudoun County Public Schools that was selected to represent our school division in a new initiative.
● In Kindergarten, students will balance the time they spend on computers by engaging in hands-on, high-interest lessons with manipulatives, such as Legos, in order to develop an understanding of patterns and sequences that will serve as a foundation for computer programming.
Code to the Future
● One of the computer programs we will be using is Scratch. If you have access to a computer at home, it would be highly beneficial for your child to start exploring the program Scratch so they are somewhat familiar with the program when we begin using it in 3 weeks. https://scratch.mit.edu/
● If you have an iPad, the Scratch program we are using in the classroom will not be on the iPad but you may use the Scratch Jr. app.
Code to the Future
● Room Mom/Dad- Coordinate the Fall, Winter, and End of the Year parties and help with special celebrations in the classroom.
● We will also need extra support throughout our Project Based Learning Projects.
● Make sure you fill out a form if you are interested in helping us this year ☺
Volunteers• Please consider volunteering in our class if you
are able! The children love to have mom or dad come to school to help out, and we can always use helpers and guest readers.
●This is the best way to communicate between home and school.
●Please be sure to remove the items that are in the side labeled “keep at home” on a daily basis.
●Any notes for us can be placed in the side labeled “return to school”.
Daily Folders
●We will be sending home book orders within the first few weeks of school.
●I will attach a letter to guide you in setting up an on-line account with Scholastic (if you are interested in using their website to order) and how to use our class code when ordering.
Book Orders
● We will have P.E. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Please be sure your child is wearing appropriate shoes on PE days.
● We visit also have Library, Art, and Music classes each week.
