Welcome to Foundation Studies
Prospects Centre
Your Foundation Studies Courses will be taught in the Prospects
Centre.
At college, there is a drop off and pick up point. If you need support when
travelling, you will be met by an ESW and supported to the canteen or your
classroom.
About your course
• Each course is 1 academic year, September until June, 3 - 4 days a week.
• Classes are all day long. Every Wednesday you will start at 10am.
• You will get a college ID card that you need to bring to college every day.
• You will have a group tutor who you call by their first name.
• Class sizes are small, approximately 8 in a class. You will have support in class. At college we call thesepeople Educational Support Workers.
• We are based in Prospects Centre with it’s own canteen and quiet room.
• All students study maths and English.
• We also have our own café and shop that is run by students.
• We offer enrichment for you to get involved in.
• If you have an EHCP, you will get £3.00 on your ID badge to pay for your dinners.
• You might be able to go into Bury for your dinner or if you need support at dinner time there are staffaround to help you. We also have quiet rooms and lunch time activities.
• We would like you to make friends and have fun and will help you to do this.
About your course
Foundation Studies Team
You will have a Personal Tutor if you are on a full-time course. You will be with your Personal Tutor for several lessons and they will offer you support and guidance if needed.

Life Wise
Life Wise is an introduction to living more independently. You
will focus on looking after yourself and your home. There is also
a key focus on accessing your local community and volunteering.
You will need to look at your weekly course overview and
remember money, suitable outdoor clothing, travel pass and a
packed lunch when needed.

Work Wise
Work Wise is an introduction to work. You
will run the Smart Café, where you are
required to plan, prepare and make food
that you will serve to customers every
Tuesday.
There is a focus on health and hygiene, team
work, customer service and money skills.

Life Challenge
On Life Challenge you will focus on self advocacy,getting about safely on public transport, volunteeringand accessing the local and wider community.
You will also go on an overnight residential usually inJune.
You will need to look at your weekly course overviewand remember your money for trips, suitable outdoorclothing, travel pass and a packed lunch when needed.

Work Challenge
Work Challenge focuses on the skills required to run
your own business. You will take part in a Young
Enterprise Scheme where you choose and run a
business and create your own company.
This includes, having a role in the company, making
items to sell, working as part of a team and taking part
in trade fairs and competitions.

Moving On
Moving On will give you with the confidence to moveonto a more independent way of living, including,finding out about other meaningful leisure andvolunteering organisations in your local area.
You will also do the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Steps to Work and Supported Internship
Steps to Work is the course before the Supported Internship. It willhelp you get ready for work by developing your employability skills.You will get an external 1 day a week work placement. You will also bein charge of managing our shop, the Smart Shop. The course enablesstudents to progress onto voluntary work on the SupportedInternship. Supported Internship is all about you finding paid work.
Supported Internship is the course if you want a job. It will give youindividual work placements that meet your aspirations. You will besupported through the whole process of finding work, includingpersonal presentation, CV building, interviews, job searching and onthe job training. You will be supported by job coaches when out onplacement in different settings.
