“Before all else comes the individual person,” Pope Francis wrote, “and people should not be defined only by their sexual tendencies. We are all destined to receive his infinite love.” The Courage apostolate welcomes men and women who experience same-sex attractions as brothers and sisters in Christ, and helps them to respond to their vocation as sons and daughters of God, created in his image and likeness. Together with a priest chap-lain, Courage members strive for chastity, build authentic friendships, and grow in holiness. Please visit the Courage website at www.couragerc.org if you want to learn more. For more information, please call the Diocese of Toledo Chapter Spiritual Director, Fr. Michael Dandurand at 419.644.4014 or email at [email protected].

"They all ate and were satisfied." Why read the miracle of the multiplication of the loaves this Sunday? Here we see the mystery of our physical and spiritual realities intermingling. Too often, they can feel separate. When we go to Mass, how often we appear more ordinarily human rather than stretching toward the divine. Perhaps our experience of the Eucharist is fairly mundane. We notice when a new sacramental wine has been selected. We feel the varying textures of the host and wonder if they'll ever bring back the one that tasted dis-tinctly like wheat. As we shuffle up to the front and stride back to our pew, we notice the looks on people's faces and the clothes on their backs. We get distracted by the crying child, the man blowing his nose, and the mechan-ical sound of the air conditioner kicking in. How human we are, how earth-bound, how material! And how good God is for entering into these selfsame realities. How good God is for proclaiming "the kingdom of God," for "heal[ing] those who needed to be cured," for having mercy on a tired and hungry crowd. How many of the crowd noticed what had been done for them? Did they realize their dinner was a miracle? How often do we miss the deeper reality of the Eucharist? Even if in the moment of receiving Communion we don't experience radical ecstasy and don't feel any different, there is a tangible reality to cling to. Our God loves us enough to be-come bread for us, not only to feed us but to be fed upon by us. ©LPI

How can we ever succeed at truly loving God and our neighbor and fully embrace Gospel living? Achieving this goal without an intimate connection with Christ is impossible. The Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ, con-nects us with God in a unique and most intimate way. His very life and presence is wedded with ours. Being for-given and nourished, we are given the strength and conviction to pick up our wounded and broken lives and be living heralds of Good News. Our world is broken and needs authentic, living witnesses to bring it back to truth. Nourished by the Body and Blood of Christ, are you ready to be sent? ©LPI
