Dear Parishioners,

Happy Mother's Day! Today we celebrate the gift of motherhood and we celebrate our mothers. It is appro-priate that we celebrate Mother's Day in the Month of May which is dedicated to Our Blessed Mother. May-be the best gift we can give to our mothers is to pray a rosary for them. In a special way today we also want to be mindful of those who for whatever reason Moth-er's Day is a day of grief and sadness. Let us remem-ber them in our prayers.

As you celebrate Mother's Day, I'm sure you will be hungry and looking for a good meal for Mom. Don't forget that the best breakfast in town is right here at Lourdes on Mother's Day from 8am until 11:30am. Treat your mom right and bring her here for breakfast on her special day!

Have a blessed week!

Fr. Jim Theby

Our Lady of Lourdes will host the Harvest Table at St. Peter's church in Washington on Saturday, June 16th. Every week, 70 - 80 people are served a warm dinner. To continue this wonderful gift of giving, we need 13 volunteers to come and work from 4 to 7 PM. Children are able to come and help with their parent. This is a great way to receive your Christian services hours.

We also need 12 to 14 large bags of salad along with add-ins such as cucumbers, tomatoes, croutons, shred-ded carrots etc. The main course is being donated by Sam Orlando Catering.

Volunteers should park in back of church. Use the back door and go up the stairs to the kitchen.

Thank in advance for giving your time to help others.

If you are able to help us out, please call Sharon 636-

432-4111 or email [email protected].

Word of Life - May 13

“We can all help encourage our government and other institutions to support life. They must always aid and support mothers and children, and never offer to pay for the destruction of life as a ‘solution’ to the chal-lenges women face. The call to uphold women’s dig-nity and well-being, and that of their unborn children, is one and the same.”

Baby Shower For Life

You’re invited!

Our Parish will be hosting a Silent Baby Shower for

Life to benefit Tri County Birthright and the mothers

and families they serve. Tri County Birthright is locat-

County along with other counties. There will be a col-

lection site in the church narthex for baby items to as-

sist mothers and babies in need, from Saturday May

12, through Sunday May 20, 2018. This is a great

way to show our support for life by supporting moth-

ers who choose life for their babies.

Suggested items: Diapers all size; sleepers and out-

fits , newborn to 18 months; baby formula (Enfamil)

and bottles; crib blankets and sheets.

Thanks in advance, and with your support—

Reminder of Upcoming OLL Rummage

Sale

It’s that time of the year again!!! Start cleaning out

your closets, your basement and your garage and sav-

ing items to donate to the St. Bernadette Sodality

Annual Rummage Sale. This year the sale will be

held Thursday and Friday, June 21 & 22. Again, we

will not be accepting any computers, TVs, large ap-

pliances, encyclopedias or couches. If you have ques-

tions, please call Mary Baucom, 239-6152, Geri Col-

lumbien, 239-4163 or Carol Mohesky, 239-4189.

Festival Dinner - Pies are needed

Our annual parish festival is always a success,

thanks to the dedication of our parishioners. This

year we kindly ask for your help once more for our

festival dinner. After all, what is a successful dinner

without some tasty desserts?

While we prefer a donation of at least two pies, oth-er desserts are welcome too.

If you are unable to bring a dessert, a monetary do-

nation would greatly be appreciated. Please put

your donation in an envelope marked "dessert dona-

tion". This can be placed in the collection basket

before June 10th.

All desserts should be dropped off on Saturday,

June 9th or Sunday, June 10th. Please place dessert

on the table in front of Room 4 next to the cafeteria.

If possible, please have your desserts in a throw

away container. If you are unable, please have your

dish marked with your name and you may pick it up

outside of Room 4.

As always, we deeply appreciate your generosity in

making our picnic a huge success!

St. Matthias First Century Feast Day—May 14

Matthias was the replacement for

Judas Iscariot in the Twelve Apos-

tles. Two men, Matthias and Joseph

Barsabbas, met the condition set

down by Peter in the Acts of the

Apostles (1:21-22): That he

“accompanied us the whole time the

Lord Jesus came among us, beginning from the bap-

tism of John until the day on which he was taken up

from us.” After praying first, the apostles chose Mat-

thias by drawing lots. Later traditions had Matthias

evangelizing in Judea, Cappadocia (now Turkey) or

Ethiopia, before being martyred. Perhaps more relia-

ble is the early writing of Clement of Alexandria, who

said Matthias insisted on the importance of mortifica-

tion and was among the 72 disciples sent out by Jesus

in the Gospels.

We know nothing else about [St. Matthias], if not that he had been a witness to all Jesus’ earthly events (cf. Acts 1: 21-22), remaining faithful to him to the end. To the greatness of his fidelity was later added the divine call to take the place of Judas, almost com-pensating for his betrayal. —Pope Benedict XVI, October 18, 2006
