Thank you for taking the time to visit our classroom to find out about what we are doing this year.1A little bit about usI am Mrs Burgess the Year 6 teacher and I am very proud of my class. The children have made an excellent start to Year 6 and we are all looking forward to an exciting and productive year. We will be working from the new National Curriculum and whilst some things will change, many other aspects will remain similar to the previous curriculum.The biggest change again this year will be a more integrated approach to some subjects; especially the foundation subjects.

2Daily Routines/Timetables PE kit both indoor and out Gym after lunch MondayGames outside after lunch WednesdayDance in the hall on a Thursday morning Good Work Assembly is on a Wednesday morning HomeworkHomework will be set each weekHomework-spellings are given on Monday for the pupils to practise over the week for the following Mondays testTuesday-maths homework to be returned by Friday of that weekWednesday-a range of different activities such as grammar and punctuation activities, or creative fun activities, including ICT and longer projects over two or three weeksPlease check that children have recorded activities in their diaries

3What your child needs to have in schoolPE kit(indoor and out)-the children will need to bring their PE Kits to school on a weekly basisSnacks, lunch, stationery for school, water bottlesLetters to go home in bagsDaily diaries to record homeworkHomework to be handed in on timeWhat we dont want to see is suitcases!No mobile phones please4CurriculumNew curriculum, expectations, levels of achievement working towards, maths targets, creativity, use of outdoor learning, how we use think pink and go green to mark.History - This term the year 6 topic will begin with a short focus on World War 2 including the Blitz and VE Day and a trip to the Air Raid Shelter in Stockport. It would be useful for children if they could bring in books or artefacts which relate to the topic. Maths We will be covering place value, rounding, multiplying and dividing numbers and work on decimals.Science - Living things and Habitats including work on Micro- organisms. 5
