teachers to learn together. The demountables arrived in the school holidays amidst downpours and are
gradually having all fit outs occurring. We had the concrete repaired and walkways to steps installed over the
weekend just passed.
I expect we will have handover of these rooms fairly soon.
The students and staff have been very flexible and
accommodating of the changes during this period.
Enjoy the photos of their arrival!

2019 Forward Planning
Forward planning for 2019 and class placement for 2019
We are busily planning in preparation for next year. In order to allow us to plan as
effectively as possible, we would like those families who know that they won’t be
returning to the school next year, to confirm these details as soon as possible. I have
included a slip at the end of the newsletter for you to complete and send back to the front
office if this scenario applies to you. Thank you for your anticipated co-operation with this
matter.
Class placement for 2019 is a complex task that staff invest a lot of time and effort. Parents are welcome to
provide written information to Mrs Lockrey (The Principal) by Friday November 9, 2018 if there are specific
needs you think should be taken into consideration about your child /children when considering class
placements in 2019. Any information which is delivered to Mrs Lockrey after this date will unfortunately not be
able to be considered in class placements for 2019. Consideration to social and emotional needs, academic
ability and behaviour can be considered, but no guarantees can be made as staff make determinations which
are in the best interest of all attempting to achieve a balance in each class. It is a difficult task which teachers
way up very carefully. Parent requests for changes of their child’s class will not be considered in 2019 as this
is a school management decision and we commit considerable time in formulating the structure for the
following year.

Earlier in the year, students from the Art Group created artworks for
the Operation Art initiative which is the premier state-wide visual arts
exhibition for school students from Kindergarten to Year 10. Mrs
Hatter attended the opening of the exhibition on Saturday 15th
September and took some photos of the artworks on display. Three
collaborative artworks by students from Wentworthville Public School
were selected by the Years 3-6 SRC representatives for the exhibit.
You and your family can also view the exhibition as it is free and open to
the public until the 4th November 2018. The details are:

Artwork Title: Seasons
Artwork description: Our artwork
was about comparing the different
seasons and trying different
designs and patterns. We made it
by cutting out many colourful
shapes of different sizes. At first
we were working individually then
we decided to work together. We
chose different colours to match
different seasons.

Artists: Liza,
Tulika, Jiya (all
5/6M) and Ved
(4R)
Artwork Title:
Life is like a
shape
Artwork description: Our artwork involved the techniques
of multiple folding and careful cutting to get the various shapes. The idea behind creating this piece of artwork
was to represent the many twists and turns that life presents to us which make each day very unique and
colourful!
Artists: Neeti and
Lauren 4R
Artwork Title:
Floral Flowers
Artwork description: Our artwork has a variety of plants and natural features. This colourful picture shows
symbols of how nature grows. We created this artwork by cutting out different shapes to show the natural
diversities in plants and animals. To make this masterpiece we needed to communicate and work together,
we shared each other’s ideas to make each square unique and individual.

Calendar for Cultural Diversity Competition
Students in the Art Group worked on entries for the 2019 Calendar for Cultural Diversity competition. This
calendar promotes intercultural understanding, cultural diversity and harmony across NSW public schools and
their communities. Each year, NSW public schools are invited to submit student artwork for possible inclusion
in the calendar around a given theme. The theme of the 2019 calendar for cultural diversity is 'every child.'
Congratulations to Garv, Sountharikan, Liza, Tulika, Jiya and Sude for their artworks that were selected to be
entered into the competition.
ARTWORK 1
Students: Liza Jayswal (5/6N), Tulika Chadha (5/6N), Jiya
Soni (5/6N) and Sude Aksevi (5/6N)
Our artwork shows a girl swinging on a swing dreaming as the
sun sets. This artwork shows every child has their own dreams
and every child belongs.
Materials used: water colour paints, black marker, pencils
ARTWORK 2
Students: Garv Kathuria (4B) and
Sountharikan Thirukkumaran (4B)
Our artwork shows children from different
cultures representing their home and land,
standing on the stage. They also show their
favourite items and hobbies. They are united
as a team – every child is the same but
different. Every child belongs.
Tuesday 20th November 11:35 am to 1:55pm
What is Gala Day? Gala day is an opportunity for Year 6 students to organise a fun event for the Wentworthville community. Below is some information about the day.
When is Gala Day? Gala day will be held Tuesday 20th November, 2018. The event will start at 11:35am and conclude at 1:35pm. This will be followed by the Gala day raffle, drawn at 1:45pm.
Who can attend Gala Day? Wentworthville P.S. students along with family and friends are welcome to attend and enjoy the activities at Gala day whilst supporting our Year 6 students.
How Gala Day works:
• Students purchase tokens prior to and on the day of Gala day to play games
• Students use the tokens to play over 30 different games run by Year 6 students
• Activities include 3 jumping castles, face painting, henna art drawing competitions, an obstacle course, soccer shootout, footy passing and plenty of water activities
• We have giant size board games including giant jenga, giant connect four and giant dominos
• This year we will have a disco running during the Gala day in the hall
• Year six students and local community companies provide prizes for students to win at each stall
• Best off all, you are guaranteed to win prizes at each activity you play
• To play games students purchase ‘Gala day’ tokens
• Tokens are 50c each or 5 for $2
• Activities cost one or two tokens per game, the jumping castle will cost 3 tokens per turn. Students purchase tokens to play the activities. All money raised through playing games on the day goes towards the Year 6 Farewell and the Year 6 gift to the school, benefiting all students at Wentworthville P.S.
(Continued on page 13)
How many tokens does my child need? We recommend each student purchase around $10 worth of
tokens; as this is a two-hour event allowing students to play for the whole two hours.
When can I purchase tokens? You can purchase tokens in the morning from 8:25am till 8:55am, starting
on Monday 12th November, 2018. Just look for the Gala Day token counter located in the morning
