Bible Direction for Life

WESTSIDEBAPTIST CHURCH

WELCOME TO WESTSIDEWestside Baptist Church is a place where everyday people, just like yourself, can experience God’s love in a real and personal way. We are founded on the Bible and committed to sharing the timeless truths contained in its pages. Through straight-forward preaching from God’s Word, reverent worship, and fervent prayer, lives are impacted and inspired for spiritual growth every week here at Westside.

We hope you feel at home. Whatever your ethnic or cultural background, whether you are single or married, young or just young at heart, we would love to learn more about you and help you find your joy and satisfaction in Jesus Christ.

If you are looking for a gospel-centered church on the Kitsap Peninsula, or if we could serve you in any way, please let us know.

Grace and Peace,

TOGETHER IN SCRIPTURE John Chapter 7

Context: Setting the TableAfter introducing the witnesses to Jesus and describing a variety of initial responses to the launch of his ministry, John recorded the beginnings of Jesus’s controversy with the leaders in chapters five and six. This seventh chapter begins John’s account of Jesus’s visit to Jerusalem at the Feast of Tabernacles in the face of ever-increasing hostility.

Content: Hearing the TextRead John 7 together out loud.

Credo: Believing the TruthJesus was not the Messiah that anyone had expected. Judging according to appearances, he just didn’t seem to measure up. He performed signs—but he refused to perform for the crowds. He taught with power—but he refused to trim his message to make it acceptable to the leaders. He challenged the status quo—but he refused to become a champion of political independence. In the face of deceptive adulation and destructive opposition, he remained focused on the will and timing of the Father.

Conduct: Reshaping Our WalkDiscuss the meaning of the text and then walk through the following application questions as you discuss the difference this meaning ought to make in our lives today. How can we slip into the trap of judging others, even our fellow believers, according to appearances rather than truth? When God answers the prayers of his people by demonstrating his miraculous power, things do not always work out the way those who prayed expected it to. What are some of the ways in which those who begged God to act can become frustrated or even angry when he actually does?

Book of the MonthThe book of the month for March is Seeing

and Savoring Jesus Christ by John Piper. Jesus Christ has a unique excellence and a spiritual beauty that speaks directly to our souls and says, “Yes, this is truth.” It’s like seeing the sun and knowing that it is light, or tasting honey and knowing that it is sweet. John Piper has written this book in the hope that all will see Jesus for who he really is and will come to enjoy him above all else. Available in the Westside Bookstore
