• American Whalers venture into the Antarctic for the first time, and begin to commercially exploit it.

What happened from 1767 until now in the

Thais’ lands?


• The people on Thai lands went from armies where around 10% of the soldiers had rifles and shooting wooden cannon balls in 1767 to being accused and sanctioned by the US Department of State in February 8th, 1994 for the Imposition of Chemical and Biological Weapons Proliferation.

• Rice farming on Thai lands utilized water buffaloes to plow, hand casting and sickle harvesting in 1767. Whereas today, modern machinery might be used to plow, hand casting is still preferred for even rows of casting and modern machines might be used to harvest the paddies.

• Transportation has gone from walking to boats, elephants, horses then bicycles, automobiles, mass transportation and air flight.

• Musical Instruments were cast of bronze and made from wood in the past, the bronze is gone but the wood is still here utilizing modern techniques to manufacture them.

Current Technology and Science keeps on going and going…….

About 24 percent of the population of Thailand is classified as undernourished by the World Bank. This means they do not receive adequate nutrition in their diet. Almost all of the population (94 percent) has adequate access to sanitation. Of children under the age of five, about one-quarter are underweight, and nearly 22 percent are stunted (short for their age).

Despite malnourishment, Thailand is the world's largest rice exporter, accounting for over 22 percent of all agricultural exports by value in 1997. It also provides about 95 percent of the world's cassava (tapioca) exports. The government, however, has initiated large-scale irrigation projects, introduced higher-yielding varieties of rice, and encouraged mountain villagers to grow coffee, apples, strawberries, and other crops in an effort to increase exports and compete in the global market.

1913: King Rama VI sponsors founding of Siam Cement in order to reduce the country's reliance on imported cement.

1915: Production begins with a capacity of 20,000 tons.

1938: The company begins producing roofing tiles in its first extension beyond cement.

1948: The company builds Thailand's first steel plant and begins producing iron and steel.

1952: The CPAC concrete products group is created.

1962: The company forms a distribution operation, the Construction Materials Marketing Company, later renamed Siam Cement Trading.

1976: The company invests in Siam Kraft Co., in its first diversification effort.

1983: A license to produce high-density polyethylene marks company's first entry into the petrochemicals market.

1990: The first of a series of reorganizations, into four core businesses, is implemented.

1998: The company announces plans to sell off noncore holdings.

2001: After sell-off fails, the company is restructured into six core businesses and two holding companies.

2003: Siam Cement creates a new Building Products division.

The now deceased author, former Department Chairman at Cornell University Department of History for 33 years, used data from his personal library collection of over 15,000 Southeast Asia volumes, personal data accumulated from his numerous trips to Southeast Asia and relied heavily on various scholars to bring together a chronologically cohesive look at the current area known today as Thailand. His terse book looks at the lands from 40,000 BCE until the present and is jam packed full of carefully researched facts pertaining to how Thailand came to be the Thailand we all see today. I’ve used data found in chapter 6, The Early Bangkok Empire, 1767-1853, to chapter 11, Fresh Starts, 1976-2002 to help me get an understanding of technology and science from 1767 up to the present.

The letter is dated February 27, 1994 and stipulates the sanctions effective date as February 9, 1994. This letter has a Federal Register date of March 7, 1994.

This in-depth book covers public record accounts of corruption in federal, municipal and local city level political corruption cases as well as goes into the backgrounds and histories of Joa Pho (Godfathers) here in Thailand. I used this book to find out specific information in regard to military technology and purchasing procedures in Thailand.
