From the Oriental Chair…

Brethren I would like to discuss the history of our organization in relation to the Revolutionary War and George Washington’s role in Freemasonry. As we know Washington , Benjamin Franklin, John Hancock, Alexander Hamilton, and Samuel Adams; along with other revolutionaries used Masonic Lodges to discuss resistance against the British rule.

Washington became a Freemason in October 1752 , joining Fredericksburg Lodge #4 located in Virginia. He and many of the brethren of that Lodge served together in the Continental Army. In 1783 a Masonic Lodge was chartered in Alexandria, Virginia and Washington was afforded the distinct honor of being the First Master. Washington accepted the position and became Master of Alexandria Lodge #22. After the Revolutionary War , Washington stayed active in Freemasonry. During his first presidential inauguration he used the Bible of St. John’s Lodge # 1 while taking his oath of office. The oath was tendered by Robert Livingston, a well known Mason.

In 1805 , Alexandria Lodge was renamed Alexandria Washington Lodge #22 in honor of Washington . In 1909 the Lodge purchased land in Alexandria to create a memorial to Washington as a Mason. The memorial design was similar to the Lighthouse located in Alexandria, Egypt, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Alexandria Washington Lodge #22 conducts their meetings at the site, while still welcoming visitors.

Would like to thank all who participated in this year’s chili cook-off and congrats to Bro. Evan Vasilion on winning the competition. Traveling trophy will find its home at USS NJ #62 for the next year. Also thanks to all the officers of Mozart on a job well done at our Official Visit. Your dedication to the craft was evident in your ritual work. Just a reminder...Grand Lodge on April 9-12 & wheelchair push on April 15th.

Fraternally, John P. Minot

2018 Dues Notices

Brethren,

By now, you should have received your 2018 dues notices in the mail. If you haven’t, please contact me. Your 2018 dues were due by January 31, 2018. It is essential to the Lodge’s finances that you get this in on time. If for some reason, paying your dues is not within the length of your cable-tow, please talk to the Secretary to make arrangements. We as a Lodge do not want to lose any members this year due to financial problems. We hope to see many of you this year on the sidelines at our meetings & degrees. For updated events and activities please look not only at this trestle board, but our website & Facebook page. Thank You!

Chili Cook-Off Competition

On Tuesday March 6, 2018, Mozart Lodge held its 9th annual WB Hudgin’s chili cook-off competition along with its Official Visit of RW Robert Hertneck, Jr. DDGM. There were 11 entries from members of our Lodge and Lodges around the district. It was tough competition, but finally someone won that didn’t have a last name of “Mertz”. 1st place went to Bro. Evan Vasilion from USS NJ #62, second place went to DB Barney Mohrfeld from Mozart Lodge, and third was awarded to RW Todd Mertz also from Mozart Lodge. After giving away prize money and trophies, Mozart Lodge raised some money for its charity fund. Thank you for all who came out and participated, both in making chili and judging. Pictured below is our Worshipful Master John P. Minot handing over the traveling chili cook-off trophy to Bro. Evan Vasilion & WB Jack Myers of USS NJ #62.
