Early Childhood Improvement

1. JUNE 2010 AND 2012: Ohio adopts new learning standards

2. AUTUMN 2012:Ohio districts begin implementing redesigned curriculum for new learning standards

3. AUTUMN 2013: Fully implement new learning standards in math, English language arts, science, social studies, fine arts, world languages and all areas of school readiness

4. AUTUMN 2014: Deadline to implement new learning standards

New Learning Standards

1. JULY 2013: Districts adopt one-year end of course exams in social studies

2. MAY 2014Last administration of OAA in grades 3-8

3. OCTOBER 2014First administration to sophomores of nationally standardized assessment of college/career readiness.

4. MAY 2015First administration of PARCC assessments in grades 3-8

First administration of state-developed social studies assessments in grades 4 and 6 and science assessments in grades 5 and 8

Next Generation Assessments

1. AUGUST 2013: New interactive A-F report cards published with grades on nine measures and new career-tech report card

2. AUTUMN 2013: Expenditure per pupil ranking added to report cards.

3. AUGUST 2014: Report card expands to includes grades and reports on 16 measures

4. AUGUST 2015: Grades and reports on 17 measures; Grades for six categories and overall grade

Results of nationally standardized assessment of college/career readiness added to report card.

5. AUGUST 2016: Grades and reports on 18 measures; Grades for six categories and overall grade

A-F School and District Report Cards

1. 2012-13Schools begin diagnosing all students using reading assessments and create plans for those needing intervention

2. 2013-14Third grade students who are not reading on grade level by the end of the year must be retained (unless they meet special circumstances). Retained students may take fourth grade classes in other subjects

Third graders retained or are on a reading improvement plan must have a teacher with at least one year of teaching experience and other qualifications

3. JANUARY 31, 2014 The State Board of Education will define the skills and abilities needed for all teacher reading credentials and training

4. JULY 1, 2017All educators licensed in pre-K-3 or 4-9 must pass a rigorous exam of reading instruction
